Are you selling musical instruments and accessories?

Has anyone noticed that a lot of music gear related sites have orange logos? Reverb: orange. Guitarguitar: orange: Wunjo's: orange. Basschat: orange. I think it's like how lots of food places are red or green, which your lizard brain is supposed to associate with food. What do people reckon? Or maybe its just coincidence.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

I've had the Trent site open on a tab in my browser for the last week 😂 does anyone know anything else about them? There's almost nothing online apart from a few posts on forums. -
Played a gig with my regular wedding band last night. We've been using IEMs since last year but I've always had my cab with me as I was coming out FOH. However, we have a new PA with subs and I've been toying with the idea of dropping the cab altogether and maybe getting on of the Eich Bass Boards. As a test I muted my amp (bass goes to the board via my Noble DI) and I was surprised by how little I missed the amp. In fairness, this isn't our usual PA (different MD who has to bring the PA, don't ask, I know its weird), but I'm tempted to save the weight and the space on stage. Will probably always bring my cab tho... just in case.

Finding replacement female singers

Do what I did: pivot to instrumental jazz fusion. Problem solved. You're not trying to make money, right? -
I have very little need for anything... but that's no fun, so: - Barefaced Super Twin (no tweeter) already posted in the 'Items Wanted' section - a short scale fretless: there's an ACG on Reverb I can't afford, but I've also considered buying the bits from Warmoth and putting it together myself for about half the price - Sandberg Lionel/Florence bass - an original Brassmaster - Musicman BH-500 amp (basically a MarkBass Casa without the branding)

Already did mate 😜 Well, sort of…. depends what your threshold is for a “signature” model. I received my Serek MW2 last year, for which I’d chosen the neck and fretboard wood (roasted maple), and asked for the neck to be left unpainted, which is non-standard for Serek. It also has a slightly unusual pickup conurbation: bridge pickup in the usual place but the neck pickup is in the sweet spot rather than 2-3cm closer to the neck as is standard. And passive electronics. Hardly breaking boundaries, but it’s a bit different to most MW2s. I also have a Wilcock Mullarkey on order (alder body, roasted maple neck, shell pick with matching headstock), also with passive electronics. Again, not reimagining the bass guitar but it will be Mine, as it were. Even though it’s already a signature model for someone else… But is that my “signature” model? Maybe, maybe not. Does a signature bass need some kind of unique design feature like the pickup configuration (Mullarkey, Fender Stu Hamm), string spacing (Gerald Veasly’s Ibanez), completely unique design (Matt Garrison and Anthony Jackson Foderas) or colour/decal (Lull IMA/Victor Wooten Fodera) to qualify as a signature model? If so, then the Fender JMJ, Pino Palladio, Jaco Pastorius, Sean Hurley, Victor Bailey, etc etc don’t count because they’ve just slapped a signature on a pretty standard model, they’re some of the most popular wigs to my knowledge.

Up to now I've probably owned about 15 drive pedals, 10 of which I still own. The one I keep coming back to and is on my big board is the Origin Effects Halcyon, a tube screamer circuit and the chank of which seems to fit with the style of fusion/jazz/prog/wtf I play with my original trio. However, I keep the other 9 because I think they sound cool (I sold a bunch earlier this year because they had no Je ne sais quois). I love the low gain of the Jive, BB Preamp and the Black Vehicle (they'd be on my board as well if space and loops weren't an issue), but I also like the aggression of The Crook and the Tesla Wolf so. And my DG B3K is special because it was built by Spencer Doran of 3Leaf Audio. To address a point you made specifically, I think the reason so many people on these forums are constantly searching for and buying drive pedals (among other things) is because buying something feels like progress. I started spending an obscene amount on pedals, guitars and other paraphernalia when lockdown happened. Up until that point I'd been gigging very regularly (at least weekly) and hardly ever bought gear, but suddenly I dropped to nothing. Luckily I have a job that can facilitate such spending (much curbed now), but in lieu of gigging I bought gear instead. Ultimately, if you can afford to by lots of drive pedals then enjoy the journey; if you can't, then stick with what you've got. Whatever music you're making won't be made significantly better or worse because of what drive pedal you're using.

The G3 Atom finally arrived today, so I spent all evening wiring it. Some of the audio cables runs are a bit tight but they all just about reached (still had to order more as there wasn't enough left over to wire up the pink fuzz). Underneath is a bit of a birds nest but I'm waiting for the extra wiring to tighten up the cable ties. Otherwise the Atom is great, I can finally switch between multi-pedal patches instantly. Bit weird for a bass player, but absolutely necessary when you play in fusion/jazz/prog power trio! -

I've got an Atom on order from Andertons since April but it's been delayed til the end of this month. Hopefully it arrives on time as my band has a pretty big gig in July 🤞 -

In short yes. Most of the weddings I do these days are with one band and its mostly soul/R&B?pop stuff, so not much need for phasers and delays and fuzzes. All its got is my Noble DI, an Octabvre, a drive of some sort and C4 for the two synths sounds on the set. The board I use for my originals band (jazz-ish) has all the weird stuff on it: fuzz, delay, chorus, filter. I occasionally take it out on cover gigs if the set is more wide-ranging. -

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

I like the look of these but, like a lot of short scales, they've placed the bridge very far into the body. This always puts me off, because it negates what is, to me, the point of a short scale: a shorter reach to the lowest fret. -
Barefaced one 10 - any recommendations on bags/cases?
bassist_lewis replied to Len_derby's topic in Amps and Cabs
This guy will make you one for about £50, in either canvas or vinyl: https://www.hotcovers.co.uk You just need to go to the custom order page and use one of the PDF templates to do the measurements. -

I can vouch for the Julia. The blend knob is really useful and the ability to vary the 'Lag' allows for some great tones.
