  1. I have the exact same relationship with Rics.
  2. I heard they're going to do another run of 1000 of the limited edition ones over Christmas and ask an extra £3k for them, I imagine to cover the factory's winter fuel bills.
  3. I think a good deal of it with the newer 'Rays is the necks. I adore the roasted maple and ebony board, feel fantastic to play. Obviously doesn't apply with these Pino models! But they're very much not aimed at me
  4. Quite a bold statement, no need for dealers? Everyone buys blind? No thanks
  5. Not even a special (though has many of the features), but my 2016 PDN is in a completely different league to any older StingRay I've tried, and the 2018 Special I owned was much of the same. Admittedly I've never played anything pre 1990 odd I don't think, but I can imagine my feelings would be the same. But that's a whole other convo/argument 😅
  6. I really don't think EBMM are pumping out anywhere near as many StingRays as you think they are these days.
  7. Well that's the limited to 10 collectors bass, that's hardly comparable with an old '79. Naturally, MM do not need to market that whatsoever. Which, incidentally, are already sold out on MMs site.
  8. It's £3,499, where are you seeing '79 Stingrays for less than half of that?
  9. I'm broke, but I nearly broke my finger rushing to click on the first link. But of course, it's in Japan and very much not £2.3k 😅
  10. To be fair, maple necks? Used on the very cheapest and the most expensive instruments money can buy.
  11. Obviously varies but around £6k or so? Expensive, yes. Increased in line with the Far Eastern basses, not even close.
  12. I mean, we kinda do? We can boycott and hope it'll change, but it doesn't stop it being normal. I'm far more bothered about Far Eastern bass prices. A Dingwall combustion is comfortably over £2k now, which is insane to me.
  13. Oh look, a price argument thread At the end of the day, we live in a world where Far East built basses can now cost over £2k, so £3.4k for a US bass is, sadly, normal and to be expected. MM signatures are generally well priced compared to the nearest standard model (Pino is £200 more, less than 10%) Obviously the limited to 10 edition one is a collectors bass so a different kettle of fish.
  14. Matched to pinos? Yes. Matched to each other? Not so much. It is a pet hate of mine too, but authenticity is authentic...
  15. 6 of the 10 icons already gone. Beautiful basses.
  16. Heading to Rockprest with the Evanescence tribute tomorrow, if anyone wants to say Hi!

  17. Apparently, the Modulus made early necks were a myth (rrp of a modulus neck was almost as much as the rrp of the G Bass), and they are not actually carbon necks as marketed, they have a maple core with a carbon wrap. Still cracking basses for the money of course, but really interesting marketing choice from Peavey; the manual literally says it's a Carbon Graphite neck with no mention of it being mostly wood. Crazy but there you go. Still want it!
  18. I think the F# tuning is what many going for a 6 string NG would likely tune to over regular tuning to be fair! But I agree you may want to look at removing the vinyl cover (or at least checking it can be removed cleanly) as its a little niche, don't remember seeing anything like that before!
  19. Ripping the Tolex off of one of those awful peeling BF cabs is possibly the most relatable cab-related action i've seen. I say Bravo!
  20. Witness point, that's the phrase I was after!
  21. Scam, in so far as I'd bet an awful lot of money that what you receive is not what is pictured.
  22. Yeah that's what I mean, so I'm really surprised the competitive price wasn't based on moving lots of units and they're this uncommon. Lovely basses, I always looked at as a bit of a middle finger to EBMM for never giving Flea a sig bass!
  23. I can't believe so few of these were made, felt like they were for sale everywhere for years at a relatively low price point for a US artist model?
  24. I don't feel like you go to many metal concerts...
  25. .125 string, has the zing of a smaller string but enough heft to add weight behind the note. Much, much more importantly than that, the setup on the bass needs to be spot on. Neck as straight as you can get away with, nut cut well. When you string a new string, when just under tension, push down hard at the break angle over the bridge saddle (towards pickup) to create a cleaner break. Makes the world of difference. Experiment with tapered strings too.
