Just bought a Pike Vulcan to gain stack. My issue is that there isn't any "vintage" tone on the clean part of the Ultra. Just a neutral eq.
The "vintage" aspect is referring to the voicing on the dirt side, a name Doug now regrets using as it is only vintage sounding compared to the B3K, it gets very gnarly and modern on its own if set properly. The EQ is a very flexible clean pre. It does sound like you are after a 2 dirt channel DG pedal, which doesn't exist I'm afraid! You could buy a Vintage pedal and put it before the Vintage Ultra and that would give you 1 clean and two dirt channels, but thats getting expensive. The Pike may do the job, very similar pedals of course!
Just listened to that Andertons video; weirdly I thought the clean sound on the amp sounded really good but the over-drive stuff sounded woeful - reminded me of those Line6 Spider guitar amps from the early 00's. Strange because I was expecting the clean to be the weak point as Darkglass are more known for their distortion/over-driven sound in pedals. Maybe it was just the settings that guy (not the one playing the bass - I think he's normally a guitarist) was using. I'd still give one a go if I'm in a shop but maybe less likely to rush down & hear one.
PLEASE do not base your judgement on either of the Microtubes circuit on that. If used correctly, its superb and does not sound anything like Line 6 has ever produced. The microtubes engine of the amp actually sounds better to my ears than the pedals. The tone control is very, very useful for both circuits, but in particular the B3K.
Sometimes a badge has a lot of influence. You'd be a liar if you told me you'd rather have a car with a Noble badge in your garage than a Ferrari badge.
Depends on how I acquired the Ferrari. If I had a choice of being gifted either, then of course I would take the Ferrari. However, if I was buying, I would buy whichever is best suited to me at my budget! I would personally never buy something because of a badge if something else performed better or better relative to its price, but thats just me! Disclaimer as this has gone OT; I have never tried the Mesa and I could well love it, my comment was only relative to the fact that Andertons increased their price on the DG but its still significantly less than the Mesa equivalent, so not overly expensive for this type of amp with this kind of spec.
It has the prestige of the Mesa badge on it though.
More fool anyone for paying for that

Gigged the M900 at the weekend. Outstanding, PA support through the DI so I didn't push it hard for volume, but the on stage sound was spot on, and the DI sounded excellent FOH from what I have heard from comments and rough crowd recordings. It's an incredible bit of kit. Oh, and to give an idea of how loud it is, the amp with Barefaced stack was around 9 o clock on stage, against a Blackstar HT valve amp and a cranked AxeFX/Matrix setup through 4x12s.

My band have just posted a new track online ahead of our gig at the Roadhouse on Sunday. Would really appreciate any comments you may have and if you have the time/inclination please give our Facebook page a like! Home-Mixed effort For those who care, this was recorded with the new Darkglass M900 amp, together with the Omnicabsim cabinet simulator. Enjoyed popping my LBGS cherry this year, Ill be there!

After many hours of very happy rehearsal, I'll be gigging it for the first time with a couple of BF cabs next weekend. I reckon it's going to perform wonderfully!
I started a thread on General Discussion yesterday on this - just a 'heads up'
Try to keep amp/cab specific discussions in the amp/cab forum, it's what its here for after all
Having had a combo (a Markbass 2x10), the arguments against are poppycock.
No, the arguments against your particular combo are poppycock. Plenty of combos out there where it is awkward or impossible to use a different head. IMO, combos are great as a budget solution if a full modular setup is beyond the reach of a player. However, I just cant really understand why, given the choice, anyone would go for a combo when a class d amp fits in your gig bag pocket.
-
Most obvious question for me is why? Given you are talking about a compact (Class D) head, I cannot really think of a situation where it would be significantly more convenient to have the head built in?

Its a cool thing to have. I looked high and low for the richt 1988 Warwick a while ago for the same reasons, didn't find one but hopefully one day!

I don't really know too much about the Fender market, but I would have though a Deluxe jazz under £1k would be a reasonable deal, although this one is a little older. If the condition is good though, whats not to love!
Warwick have actually licensed the Steamer shape from Spector. My Streamer. The best sounding bass I own. http://www.warwick.d...--Features.html
Awesome. Much as I would love one, how is it for scratching?! Id be terrified of using it!

Certainly a helluva discount for the early buyers!
Hi all I have an EBS HD350 - great amp, lucky me . It's 350w and runs down to 2 ohms. I sometimes use with two 500w 4 ohm cabs, EBs Neo 212 and 210 - sounds sweet. Still good with just one but just loses a little extra chutzpah. So, school me Basschat - I've heard of dummy loads but know little. Is it possible to plug something in that would give that full 350w 2ohm goodness into just one cab? Cheers Jason P.S. Apologies is this is an electronically daft question.
I can't help with your query, however what I would say is you will likely notice very little difference if you did manage to get those extra few watts out at 4ohms. Chutzpah that you lose is the lack of speaker drivers as opposed to the lack of power really.
I'm thinking of a streamer cos I love p pickups and mainly cos I saw a few german made lx models on here and was really suprised how cheap they were . I'm am old school fender with flats kinda guy but sometimes I need a modern tone and I've always fancied a warwick and when I saw a few on here I thought I could afford one of these but is it actually a proper warwick? , hence the post
All German made Warwicks are 'proper'. personally I have a heavy preference for the NT models rather than the BO, but that really is just personal preference. What's your budget?
Hi spencer.b, Any particular reason you want a Streamer? I only ask because the original Streamer shape is the Spector NS - nicked by Warwick in the '80's. They do tons of models in that shape and IMO are better value.
What an odd post. Hang on whilst I drop into every other manufacturer thread in the forum and recommend people go buy a Fender...
I thought the Warwick TR could be fixed pretty easily?
Not since the volute. Truss rods were very easy to remove, but because the necks kept breaking they introduced the volute, into which the truss is anchored as such cannot be removed without serious surgery.
-
I notice that Warwick basses suffered a lot of problems neck. Wise bit of a joke considering what they cost
Since the volute was introduced in 1997ish I have not heard of many problems?

So many good filters out there at the moment, there is really no need to buy an old Mutron. Avoid 3Leaf gear, they just can't get that kind of filter sound right, but much of the boutique *mutron style* filters out there are great. Avoid the Hazlabs as well, a Qtron will get you closer.
Thanks for clarifying the various manufacturing options that Warwick are currently offering. I had been a bit confused up to now as to what actually constituted a proper German-made Warwick nowadays. So essentially, what Warwick are now calling a Masterbuilt / Custom Shop bass is what I would call "a Warwick". I too remember when that's how they all were, and they didn't cost anything like the equivalent of what they do now. To make an analogy, they are asking Rolls Royce money for a Volkswagen, if you follow my drift. Volkswagen are great cars, and Warwicks are great basses but you pays your money and you takes your choice. I can't imagine too many punters in the UK will be stumping up between four and six and a half grand for a Warwick bass. It's a classic case of being priced out of the market. In the interest of balance, it has to be said that whoever owns Warwick is a business man not an altruist. I'm sure he knows what he is doing in terms of making a profit, and he is not under any onus to make his basses "affordable" . Over the years I've seen Warwick grow from being just another little independent bass-maker to what must be one of the biggest guitar companies in Europe, so in commercial terms he must be doing something right!
They are expensive, but they are incredibly well built now. Believe me, compare the basses that were built in the early 00's with the ones being built today and they are worlds apart. In my (rather extended) experience, the current Warwick builds are the best they have every built as a company. The build quality of my 2013 Streamer was notably better than the dozen or so eighties/early nineties Warwick basses I have been through. The difficulty is they used to be cheaper, which makes them seem so expensive now. Ultimately though, their workshop will be very similar to other high end bass builders. Take Dingwall for example, they are not dissimilar in cost, but you rarely see as much bleating about Dingwall prices. The so called 'masterbuilt' basses are built using top end machinery in a workshop that only produces 250 or so instruments a year.

Hmm. Pessimist as I am, I can't really get past my initial thought on this: PJB are taking advantage of their own loyal customers with this. I personally cannot think of any situation where having a little speaker on a stand next to you on stage is the best solution to hearing yourself. Have your bass stacked up to ear level, tilt a small cab up at you, IEMs etc. £180 a pop for these, no no no. All IMO, of course
