Its all analogue certainly, which will definitely be one reason why its sounds so much more genuine that many amp sims. I assume its a clever mix of eq, low/band/highpass filters e.t.c.

One thing that does confuse me a little - if you look at Flea's bass, it doesn't have wear where this model does, and it has wear where this model doesn't....

The Vanderkley and Bergantino are superb, I wouldn't say there was too much between them. Have no experience with the EBS. Are you within range of Bass Direct?

For £1,000 I would wait and buy a Thumb NT 5 when one pops up. Different class of instrument to the Bolt-On, and quite exceptional. A thumb has a very baked in tone due to the pickup placement, much as a Stingray has its own backed in tone. Very different, entirely dependent on what you want. For me, the Thumb NT is of a much higher build quality than the Stingray. The Bolt-On is comparable, but IMO still better due to the quality of the woods used. The BO is typically uncomfortable on a strap, plenty of neck dive on a lot of examples. The NT balances much better. I have only tried one Stingray 5 and it balanced perfectly. With Warwicks, I would look at instruments 1992 and older, or 2009 and newer. Best experience I have had with Warwicks (I have owned over a dozen) have been built during these periods. [*]There is no 'better' B, but I am not sure what your definition is. They are both 34" scale instruments, so a lot will be dependant on the setup. [*]Tons of basses, little merit in suggesting many, but the first that comes to mind is a Dingwall Combustion. [/list] You need to try some basses out. Stingrays and Warwicks are worlds apart, being active is about the only thing they have in common. It is a buyers market out there, I would wait for an NT thumb if you were insistent on buying without trying, unless you find a BO for the £600-£700 mark (come up more often than you would think).

Interesting to see a comparison between Barefaced and Vanderkley, without having the opportunity to do it myself your results are pretty much what I imagined they would be. I personally wouldn't want to compromise tone, so if the extra weight and size isn't an issue I would stick with the Vanderkleys. If you crave more compactness and a good tone buy the Barefaced.

Just sold Jordi an effects pedal, smooth and patient to deal with, despite the pedal somehow taking nearly 2 weeks to get to spain! Cheers mate

Okay, so I used it in a loud rehearsal this evening. It is outstanding. I can't turn it off. It just sounds massive through my GK/Vanderkley setup. Its really, really difficult to describe what its doing to the tone. The Vanderkley is very clean and true to what goes into it, so I guess the OCSD is giving the impression it is a much larger and more coloured cab. It just sounds massive and cuts through the mix unbelievably well. Heavy metal drummer and two guitarists i'm dealing with here. At the end of the session, just for fun I DI'd into the practice room of the PA to see how it sounded. It sounded exactly as it does in headphones/recordings, like a big mic'd cab. My gearhead vocalist/guitarist was amazed by it, didn't think it was possible to get sounds like that without digital amp modelling. This little unit is remarkable, it really is.

GuitarGuitar still have one at £882, Ratlle and Drum too.

Doesn't seem to be any shortage of them at the moment now. Still doesn't distract me from wanting one!

Absolutely. My comments are very much on topic though, so fortunately there is no trolling in this thread yet. Did you take them up on the free trial then? I would be interested to hear how it compares to the 4x10 in a band situation.
