So as long as people stick to their own reasoned opinions, that is OK. Many do not. Comparing Barefaced to TKS or Bergntino is like comparing a Porsche, to a Ferrari to a Bentley. All great cars but not all necessarily write for everyone. The point is to celebrate all of them as they all add to our sum of knowledge.
Well said
How's that a bargain? All the UK stockists have been selling at that price surely? At least all the ones I've seen online have.
Yup, confused me to. Minty?
That's not the impression I got. Before I got my first BF cab, and not knowing anything about the history of the company whatsoever, I would come across BF-related threads and I just could not understand the bahaviour of the participants. And by that I mean people seeming hellbent on jumping onto any BF thread to just be negative in a way that seemed... obsessive. It put me right off BF at first because it made me think that perhaps there was a reason behind that behaviour. Eventually the day came when I could try them for myself and... I still don't get that compulsive behaviour of some. I really don't. If there's any excessive lashing out from BF 'fans' (which is not pretty either) sometimes, it was not them who started it Of course you disagree. But my own observations are different from what you said, so I want to leave this message here
Admittedly, I have only really begun to take notice of Barefaced threads recently, largely because I was looking to buy a bass rig again for the first time in years and I was browsing this part of the forum. So, I missed all the earlier threads on Barefaced (something about handles?) so you may be absolutely right, trolls and rather sad little people who didn't want to see a small guy succeed may have 'started it', so to speak. My comments though are based on recent threads, and in those I stand by my comments; any negativity, constructive or not, is jumped on (as demonstrated by Bassman7755). Some Barefaced owners do need to accept that not everyone likes it when they constantly state how much louder and better designed their cabs are. Equally, people who have never tried Barefaced before (which I'm sure there are several) shouldn't be commenting at all! But the ones who have tried and disliked shouldn't feel the need to discuss their issues with them by PM in fear of being shouted down on here, and I know of a number of members who feel this way.

Okay, I'm annoyed. Iv just wired up a super compact new pedalboard (metro 16) and will struggle to fit a tuner pedal on it. I also don't have much use for a muting function, so would rather it was just a tuner plugged into the line out of one of my pedals. This tuner fits the bill perfectly. FFS! If it were £30 or so then I would be in, but for £75....

My Pedaltrain Metro 16 arrived today so spent the afternoon wiring her up. All neat and tidy, little pushed for space though! And pardon the vintage Boss tuner, I will get round to updating it at some point... Simple, but I love it.

Snapped Trussrod - Spector NS2B - Through neck!!!
Kev replied to grunge666's topic in Repairs and Technical
I will vouch for John Williams as well, did a great job with my Dingwall and sorted a Warwick with a buggered neck out for me in the past. Great guy and cheap as chips -
I mean really, that's what it's made for. But it does magic with the signal at low/headphone volume, so like I say I'm curious as to what it will do through my rig at volume.
This looks awesome, and exactly what I need. Will be ordering one myself soon. Either of you used it live yet?
By live use, do you mean through a amp/cab or DI out to PA? I won't be using it live for a good few weeks, however I will be rehearsing at gig volume with it on Sunday through my Amp, so I can comment on that then. I imagine all it will do is give my otherwise modern sounding 112 a more retro larger cab sound. It wasn't what I bought it for, but im intrigued in any case
-
Killer pedal. Exactly what I was looking for, quite amazing what this thing does to your sound through headphones/DI. Im still not sure if I will use this through an amp, but such is the quality of the sound I'm getting through headphones I will give it a go at rehearsal on Sunday, see what it does. There is very little about this company on Basschat; small business based out of Chile, here is their website http://www.dsmnoisemaker.com. I thoroughly recommend everyone check them out. Great bloke, already had a good chat with him about this pedal, cut from the same cloth as Doug Castro.

Just picked up a fresh pedal from Mike. I paid my monies, he sent me an as-new pedal. Thats about it! No complaints, cheers again bud.
If you're careful you can usually get away with removing just the pick guard and leaving the neck in situ. I have this system on my Road Worn P and various others that have been through my hands. I don't find it too much of a chore. The bass is pretty much as per a 57 so it would be weird to have a headstock bullet-type affair. I prefer my one-piece maple neck with skunk stripe to have a walnut cavity plug at the headstock, so there.
Well thats just it. They could easily cut an inset into the bass body large enough for easy truss rod adjusting (rather than just getting away with it), and being covered by the scratchplate it would not effect its vintage authenticity to look at. Simple innovation.
Because it's based on a 61 and that's how they did it. Same as reverse tuners
Wasn't the truss rod back then a screw, as oppose to the modern ball/hex key system? Why copy the bad design at all if it isn't 100% authentic? I don't think they made relic'd basses back in '61 either
-
Slightly OT, but does anyone know why any bass manufacture today would design a neck/truss rod system that would require the neck being loosened or removed to alter relief? It just seems bizarre!
-
So I have one coming my way now, I'm looking forward to giving this a go! Recording session will be in a couple of weeks, but Ill bring this along to rehearsal next week and see how it interacts with my 112 cab. In the meantime, it looks like it will be a killer headphone practice amp too!
Peter is more a compiler of parts than a luthier... Making the classic Fender shapes (and a couple of others) from Allparts bodies and necks, then adding whatever electronics / colors you want. I wanted a Limelight at the time of ordering but they couldn't do an unreliced finish... I went for an opal yellow, stack knob, lined fretless jazz with Dimarzio DP123s and a matching headstock. He's got a great eye for detail and I like the little touches like the matching thumbrest. Mine was around £1300 but after the recent nose dive in the value of the pound I'd expect they are a bit more now...
Hmm, that seems to be quite a lot of money considering it is just a parts built bass with a custom finish?
Thank you. I'm looking to purchase my first serious bass in this price range. Its a toss up between a MIM Jazz or Warwick. Having real trouble deciding. Have tried a few jazz's but no Warwicks. The Warwick's look so well built and i love the growl. Was hoping you were basesd in London although Oxford is not that far. The versatilty of the Fender is a real pull for me, warm tones & slapabilty. Not sure how the Warwick fits these critera. Trying to find one locally to play...Its active right! but does it have a passive mode as well. Sorry I'm not an expert on guitars.
Ill just stick my nose in and say that the difference in quality between this german built instrument and a MIM Fender is staggering. The very idea a bass like this Warwick is available for the same money as a mexican Fender is just a reflection on how today's market is. These basses are fantastic.

I'm actually due to record some tracks soon and could really use one of these! You'll have to let me know how you get on.
-
You will be fine with a 18mm spaced bass I'm sure. The narrow spaces ones are a bit claustrophobic, the 20mm ones are a bit like playing a plank of wood, 18 is a good compromise. My Alpher and Dingwall are both set up to 18 and they play amazingly well.

Special order only now at GuitarGuitar, so the two have sold very quickly this evening. Implies more are available??
Looks like C to me as well See this chart http://proguitarshop.com/media/cms/blog/neckshape.jpg
The cut out is too full for a C. Looks like a U, maybe a little slimmer than normal but cerainly the U shape.
So, I've spent a little time with the Flea Jazz this afternoon tweaking it to my liking and I've also had a play of it through my practice amp and it sounds great. As mentioned before, it's a very loud bass before it's even plugged in, but it comes alive when amplified. I'm not going into detail regarding sound just yet as I would like some more time with it first. I would also like to have the opportunity to play it through my stage rig to see how it steps up there. As mentioned before, it was pretty much good to go straight out of the box. The truss rod needed a tweak and I brought the action down a little, but other than it was bang on. The intonation was almost perfect. I had a half hearted attempt at photographing the back profile, but it didn't work out so well, so I improvised! I'm no expert, but my Blue Peter skills lead me to believe that the neck is more C than U shaped.... This piece of cardboard fits the neck at the fourth fret almost perfectly. The edge either side of the C represents the fingerboard level. I estimate the depth of the neck at this fret position to be just a fraction over 20mm.
Looks a U shape to me?

2 available at guitar guitar again, someone cancel??
So you're saying it's no good for metal then? ;-)
Haha

*sigh* head has to rule heart, this would just be something pretty to look at. If I turn up to band rehearsal with a pink bass with fake cosmetic wear I may end up leaving with very real, non cosmetic damage done to me by a bunch of metalheads! I'm so very, very jealous though guys. Damn you all!
