1.
If you're careful you can usually get away with removing just the pick guard and leaving the neck in situ. I have this system on my Road Worn P and various others that have been through my hands. I don't find it too much of a chore. The bass is pretty much as per a 57 so it would be weird to have a headstock bullet-type affair. I prefer my one-piece maple neck with skunk stripe to have a walnut cavity plug at the headstock, so there.
Well thats just it. They could easily cut an inset into the bass body large enough for easy truss rod adjusting (rather than just getting away with it), and being covered by the scratchplate it would not effect its vintage authenticity to look at. Simple innovation.
  2.
Because it's based on a 61 and that's how they did it. Same as reverse tuners
Wasn't the truss rod back then a screw, as oppose to the modern ball/hex key system? Why copy the bad design at all if it isn't 100% authentic? I don't think they made relic'd basses back in '61 either
  3. Slightly OT, but does anyone know why any bass manufacture today would design a neck/truss rod system that would require the neck being loosened or removed to alter relief? It just seems bizarre!
  4. What's it up for?
  5. So I have one coming my way now, I'm looking forward to giving this a go! Recording session will be in a couple of weeks, but Ill bring this along to rehearsal next week and see how it interacts with my 112 cab. In the meantime, it looks like it will be a killer headphone practice amp too!
  6.
Peter is more a compiler of parts than a luthier... Making the classic Fender shapes (and a couple of others) from Allparts bodies and necks, then adding whatever electronics / colors you want. I wanted a Limelight at the time of ordering but they couldn't do an unreliced finish... I went for an opal yellow, stack knob, lined fretless jazz with Dimarzio DP123s and a matching headstock. He's got a great eye for detail and I like the little touches like the matching thumbrest. Mine was around £1300 but after the recent nose dive in the value of the pound I'd expect they are a bit more now...
Hmm, that seems to be quite a lot of money considering it is just a parts built bass with a custom finish?
  7.
Thank you. I'm looking to purchase my first serious bass in this price range. Its a toss up between a MIM Jazz or Warwick. Having real trouble deciding. Have tried a few jazz's but no Warwicks. The Warwick's look so well built and i love the growl. Was hoping you were basesd in London although Oxford is not that far. The versatilty of the Fender is a real pull for me, warm tones & slapabilty. Not sure how the Warwick fits these critera. Trying to find one locally to play...Its active right! but does it have a passive mode as well. Sorry I'm not an expert on guitars.
Ill just stick my nose in and say that the difference in quality between this german built instrument and a MIM Fender is staggering. The very idea a bass like this Warwick is available for the same money as a mexican Fender is just a reflection on how today's market is. These basses are fantastic.
  8. I'm actually due to record some tracks soon and could really use one of these! You'll have to let me know how you get on.
  9. You will be fine with a 18mm spaced bass I'm sure. The narrow spaces ones are a bit claustrophobic, the 20mm ones are a bit like playing a plank of wood, 18 is a good compromise. My Alpher and Dingwall are both set up to 18 and they play amazingly well.
  10. Special order only now at GuitarGuitar, so the two have sold very quickly this evening. Implies more are available??
  11.
Looks like C to me as well See this chart http://proguitarshop.com/media/cms/blog/neckshape.jpg
The cut out is too full for a C. Looks like a U, maybe a little slimmer than normal but cerainly the U shape.
  12.
So, I've spent a little time with the Flea Jazz this afternoon tweaking it to my liking and I've also had a play of it through my practice amp and it sounds great. As mentioned before, it's a very loud bass before it's even plugged in, but it comes alive when amplified. I'm not going into detail regarding sound just yet as I would like some more time with it first. I would also like to have the opportunity to play it through my stage rig to see how it steps up there. As mentioned before, it was pretty much good to go straight out of the box. The truss rod needed a tweak and I brought the action down a little, but other than it was bang on. The intonation was almost perfect. I had a half hearted attempt at photographing the back profile, but it didn't work out so well, so I improvised! I'm no expert, but my Blue Peter skills lead me to believe that the neck is more C than U shaped.... This piece of cardboard fits the neck at the fourth fret almost perfectly. The edge either side of the C represents the fingerboard level. I estimate the depth of the neck at this fret position to be just a fraction over 20mm.
Looks a U shape to me?
  13. 2 available at guitar guitar again, someone cancel??
  14.
So you're saying it's no good for metal then? ;-)
Haha
  15. *sigh* head has to rule heart, this would just be something pretty to look at. If I turn up to band rehearsal with a pink bass with fake cosmetic wear I may end up leaving with very real, non cosmetic damage done to me by a bunch of metalheads! I'm so very, very jealous though guys. Damn you all!
  16. I'v had it in my basket about 7 times last night and this morning. There is nothing about this bass that I would usually go for, Fender, passive, 4 strings, roadworn, pickguard, pink, signature basses......but yet I want it so much!
  17. You guys are killing me
  18.
Not had chance to play with it yet but got an open air festival gig tomorrow I'm planning on using it at
I fancy it for recording rather than live use, hoping it negates the need for a digital amp modeller. B7K > Omnicabsim > interface, to get a mic'ed cab sound.
  19.
So other than the stack knob controls what makes this Jazz bass so special?
Modeled after Flea's actual '61, reliced Nitro, vintage bridge, vintage style US pickups. Just generally a very nice jazz with a good spec for the price.
  20. Hesitated about buying one of these for ages, how is it! Calling dibs if you ever decide its not for you!
  21.
I've just had mail from Kenny's. They've had mail from Fender. They are getting them in early. Mine should be with me Monday or Tuesday
Awesome! Look forward to hearing your comments!
  22.
To confirm, yep, the spec referred to above does say it is nitro. I don't usually get that excited over another P or J, but the colour, fact it comes with what I'd spec (rosewood/tort), the fact it's modelled after a bass and not just dinged for the fun of it, the pickups, and those stacked knobs....all for under £900??! The normal roadworns are more expensive?! None of this makes sense. I have a feeling this will be a good seller. I also think I may break down and buy a bass after a few years off.
I know, its crazy. I'm so tempted by one of these its, well, stupid.

    Boss TU-3S
I guess they thought some folks would like the idea of TU-3 reliability, but with a smaller footprint and always on. But I concur, I can't see why.
Absolutely, but surely not at a higher price! Ah well, each to their own, I'm sure they will sell well!
