I am a big fan of Rattlesnake leads, but they can work out a little expensive after delivery/customs. Nothing wrong with OBBM cables
I have seen a few early Warwicks up for sale and I was wondering if they would become collectable as well as being the very usable instruments that they are. Will they ever be seriously sought after?
No, sadly. If anything, they are going down in value. As has been said, £900 odd with get you an eighties Streamer if you look in the right places. A few years ago you would be harder pressed to find one for less than four figures. Relative to handbuilt basses, there are so many of them knocking about as well, which doesn't help. The rarer models and some LTDs are holding value a little better, but I can't ever imagine seeing them go up.
My custom Elwood arrived today! I'm proper chuffed with it. The craftsmanship is excellent and it plays like butter. The setup out of the box is perfect for me too, which is unusual. Usually I've got the allen keys out within 5 minutes of opening the box. Hugh
Love the simplicity! And refreshing to hear good news about the out of the box setup Congrats!
I will hopefully be taking delivery of one of the first new WMD Super Fatman pedals very soon. I loved the original and the new one has some interesting tricks up its sleeve, William has certainly stirred up the excitement anyway!
Well, the WMD Protostar has been with me for a little while now. Big step up from its little brother, really cool filter and the patch bay is something unique. Great with an expression pedal and the LFO is really musical too. Crazy and subtle sounds to boot Ultimately though, I will likely move it on (once its actually on general sale) as I don't have too much use for a filter at the moment. Saying that, would still like to try a Trutron...

Thanks for that ^^^ Off the back of that video I just bought the Little Bear on eBay! Loved the Woolly Mammoth, despised the price tag. For £20 odd, I'll give it a go

It would honestly be easier and cheaper to buy a second hand neck than try to fix this one. Corvettes can go real cheap on the market, particularly beat up ones.

Tennessee 15 string - how much??????
Kev replied to winterfire666's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Its just occurred to me that he states how this bass is tuned. How could he possibly tune any of the lower strings? -
What a con. Looks like some cheap bass from the 70s. Sounds nothing special either.
This. The power of marketing?
Yeah, discovered that when I gave up and took it to the guitar shop. In the end, in order to bring the buzzing to a human level and still have a usable action they had to put a small shim in, which is a bad show, basically I think next time I get GAS I'll either buy direct from the bass show or nip to bass direct. After this I'm done with buying unseen. Not that it's bad, it sounds great in fact, it's just marred the whole experience, especially knowing I won't be able to completely get rid of the buzzing without having action a bus could ride under.
I would send it straight back, you should not have to take a brand new handbuilt bass to a tech to have it set up because its unplayable, let alone fit a shim!!
a freshly set up bass... in a likely different weather, after travelling and being stored cold etc etc... It's not unusual that something will move. But it should be pretty easy to restore it to what it was before it was posted, usually just a touch of truss rod one way or the other. However, that's just to restore the original set up. Who says that's what the customer prefers? I don't see what's so terrible about 'setting up' an instrument. I don't mean levelling frets etc, which should be perfect as it is new, I mean adjusting the neck curvature, saddles... Expecting others to set up a bass the exact way I like it is a bit too much. I nearly always tweak any new bass I get so that it plays the way I want it to.
Of course, you make small tweaks to adjust to your playing style. What this guy is describing is a bass that isn't at all playable out of the box, and has now apparently needed a shim to make it playable, with high action to boot. I wonder, how was it set up when it left the builder?
There's some cheap clearance Cort B5 basses on eBay at the moment. £238 for the open pore mahogany: http://www.ebay.co.u...gwAAOSwvgdW6IyM £228 for the Sunburst: http://www.ebay.co.u...K8AAOSwyjBW6JyD Nice spec basses - licensed Hipshot ultralite tuners with Cort factory Bartolini pickups and preamp. I've ordered the mahogany one as I need a new 5 string and I love the C5P I have, the B5 is the same bass as the C5 but with better wood, electronics and hardware. The company is actually Proel, the bass usually goes for around £400 and is basically a different version of the Ibanez SR505 (also from the Indonesian Cort factory).
They look nice, interested to see what the tuners are like. Sadly the licensed barts get poor write-ups, but I haven't really heard of license Hipshot hardware?
So why not a Fender Mex one?

Good sound and quality built are my requirements
I would grab a Squier Classic Vibe over a MIM (or USA, for that matter) Fender any day. Great basses for the money, and QC seems to be on point, in that I have not played a bad one.
Having small hands is of no consequence whatsoever so have no fear for big necks. There's people playing broadneck 6, 7 or even up to 11 strings or whatever. The trick is in the thumb sitting at the back of the neck at the right position (somewhere in between your index and middle finger) Wrong hand positioning means a painful experience on any five stringer imho.
This post needs more attention here. Providing your technique is good with your thumb on the back of the neck, most 5 stringers should be absolutely fine for people with small hands. I have small hands and up until recently I had a Warwick Broadneck 5 string, which is like navigating an airport runway. I sold the bass because I preferred narrower spacing, not because I couldn't cope with the wider spacing. Its all about preference, but if your technique involves wrapping your thumb around the edge of the fingerboard then you are restricted more. Personally, I find 5 strings with 18mm spacing much easier and more comfortable to play than some 4 strings with 20mm spacing. If you think about it, on a 5 string you generally have to stretch your fingers a much shorter distance to reach the E string than on a 4, with a slightly bigger reach needed to reach the B. Both of my 5 strings are 45mm at the nut. I would find a 4 string with anything like a 42mm nut and above (P Bass, Wal e.t.c.) difficult to play by comparison.
Ok, it's here, not doing an NBD yet as it wouldn't be fair. It seems to have arrived with a bit of a back bow as it's choking like crazy and buzzing like an angry bee, and the action is way too low but the bridge Saddles seem ok. So, I need to figure out the whole truss rod thing. If its a bottom of neck truss rod which way do you turn it to raise the strings? First pickup test is good but difficult to say for sure cos of the buzzing.
I wouldn't touch the truss rod so soon after unpacking. The relief is nil I take it, i.e. touching the frets? Give it time to adjust and warm up, if there is still any issue I would contact them to ask why it has been set up how it has. Shouldn't have to worry about back bow or any other issues on a brand new freshly setup bass.
