1. Unsure yet, electronics are proving to be a bit of a headache, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, it will be worth the wait.
2. Very much so. I am holidaying in Lanzarote until next weekend, so I imagine my bass direct preorder is sitting in my work office as I type. Frustrating! Heard great things so far, think Darkglass have knocked it out the park at this price point if it is truly a great bass Compressor.
3. Really, the sound cuts when it engages? That doesn't sound right? True, it won't be an issue for most, but unless I am missing something that's quite a design flaw if its not faulty. Happens with digital pedals of course, but first I have heard with an analog.
4. Glad your enjoying it buddy Well, I did end up ordering the Darkglass, from bass direct this time, so will hopefully have one next week
5. Bass Direct prices are damn reasonable at the moment, try to use UK companies where you can, support the economy and all that, makes returns easy if needed too! Nowhere is cheaper than BD to preorder the Darkglass comp at the moment.
6. Is a trip to bass direct possible for you? I reckon you need to pay them a visit and have a play. As said, the vintage deluxe is all about warmth but if it is a clean pre you want the B7K betters it, in my most humble opinion. The slightly cheaper option is buy a B3K or Vintage, as opposed to both preamps
7. If you intend to use it as a clean preamp, you would be better off getting the B7K due to its more sophisticated EQ controls. But, if you are looking for warm vintage drive then the Vintage would be a better option. I now run a Vintage Microtubes into a B7K and this combination covers most if not all drive tones I could imagine
8. I don't think anything he says in the vid is not what everyone already knows, really. Why own a sports car for commuting? Why buy an Italian tux for a family christening? People just do it, for a variety of reasons. Each to their own!
9. Possible topic derail, but can someone explain to me why VAT is payable on second hand goods returning to country of origin? This bass was build in England, duty/VAT paid when it went to America new/2nd hand, why do authorities get to charge again when it returns? It doesn't make any sense to me.
10.
I suppose the lesson is when buying a s/h Warwick to check the data-base first. I don't know much about Warwicks, but do they price differently for Ovangkol and Bubinga?
As a general rule of thumb (see what I did there?), a Bubinga thumb BO is rarer and more desirable than an Ovankgol BO, primarily due to how many more Ovangkol models there are about, but also due to bubinga being the wood used on the full blown NT Thumb and being a more expensive option as I recall. If you look at the current lineup, you will see the cheaper Thumb BO models (teambuilt, are they called now?) are ovankol whereas the top end 'master built' models are bubinga.
11. He has just copied the current spec, I try to comment on these mistakes when I see them but I must have missed this one. All standard BO thumbs built at that time had Ovangkol body and necks, little bit of research before buying always a good idea! Did he provide photos? Edit: Checking again, he has acknowledged the Ovankgol neck, so perhaps it was just a mistake? How has he responded to this?
12. I didn't think Mark was getting any in?? He doesn't usually stock made to order effects pedals?
13. So, who has theirs now? A few at Talkbass have already had theirs, so us UK forums goers should have some by now, surely!
14.
Yes, that's exactly why I've decided not to invest in the Cali, awesome though it will undoubtedly be. From what I have gathered on the Interwebs, it imparts even more of a vintage, tubey kind of flavour than the big one does - some are describing it as having an 'SVT vibe'. All well and good, but I think that my current rig (Aguilar TH500 into 2 SL112s) is doing enough of that kind of thing already, so I hope you're right about the Darkglass being more transparent - that's exactly what I want!
Hmm, I wouldn't read too much into this SVT vibe thing. I have only heard this in the demo video some US guy put up, I don't think it will have an SVT vibe at all, but I could be wrong! Mimicing the relative settings he used in the video on my Cali standard I could see where he may have been coming from, so if that is what he means then it will sound basically the same. The Darkglass will be completely transparent, so Doug claims. I'm not sure how I feel about that, to be honest.
15. These Geddy Lee models are superb, came very close to sticking £1800 on one of these earlier this year in pmt it was so nice. Way above your American Std, the neck is wonderful and the pickups very powerful.
16. I'v actually cancelled my pre-order with Thomann as Bass Direct have priced it much keener, surprising given the strength of the Euro. I will probably wait until it comes out now in truth, we will see
17.
I caved in too quickly and just ordered a Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor. I like the idea of the blend knob and how it works with the filter switch. I'm still interested in seeing what the DG can do but I felt it's a bit too much money for me, even after selling my VMTD.
I thought the DG price was very good to be honest, considering the competition of boutique compressors are all more expensive, Diamond, Empress, Origin e.t.c.
18. I was really impressed when I played one of these a couple of months back, and I have never been impressed by a Jazz before! The neck is sublime and the pickups are growly and loud!
19.
Fanboy!
But....but.... yeah, fair enough haha! Comes with one of these for maximum headroom
20. Up for sale I have this superb compression pedal, Standard version. Selling only as I am a Darkglass fanboy and have to buy their compressor..... That, and I need money in the short term for my upcoming holiday in the canaries Perfect working order and great condition with original box e.t.c. I will also include a Diago 9-18v adapter so you can use it at 18v with a regular 9v supply £200 shipped in the UK. Cheers!
21. Just traded high end pedals with Adam, smooth deal and exactly as described, top bloke!
