1. Possible topic derail, but can someone explain to me why VAT is payable on second hand goods returning to country of origin? This bass was build in England, duty/VAT paid when it went to America new/2nd hand, why do authorities get to charge again when it returns? It doesn't make any sense to me.
2.
I suppose the lesson is when buying a s/h Warwick to check the data-base first. I don't know much about Warwicks, but do they price differently for Ovangkol and Bubinga?
As a general rule of thumb (see what I did there?), a Bubinga thumb BO is rarer and more desirable than an Ovankgol BO, primarily due to how many more Ovangkol models there are about, but also due to bubinga being the wood used on the full blown NT Thumb and being a more expensive option as I recall. If you look at the current lineup, you will see the cheaper Thumb BO models (teambuilt, are they called now?) are ovankol whereas the top end 'master built' models are bubinga.
3. He has just copied the current spec, I try to comment on these mistakes when I see them but I must have missed this one. All standard BO thumbs built at that time had Ovangkol body and necks, little bit of research before buying always a good idea! Did he provide photos? Edit: Checking again, he has acknowledged the Ovankgol neck, so perhaps it was just a mistake? How has he responded to this?
4. I didn't think Mark was getting any in?? He doesn't usually stock made to order effects pedals?
5. So, who has theirs now? A few at Talkbass have already had theirs, so us UK forums goers should have some by now, surely!
6.
Yes, that's exactly why I've decided not to invest in the Cali, awesome though it will undoubtedly be. From what I have gathered on the Interwebs, it imparts even more of a vintage, tubey kind of flavour than the big one does - some are describing it as having an 'SVT vibe'. All well and good, but I think that my current rig (Aguilar TH500 into 2 SL112s) is doing enough of that kind of thing already, so I hope you're right about the Darkglass being more transparent - that's exactly what I want!
Hmm, I wouldn't read too much into this SVT vibe thing. I have only heard this in the demo video some US guy put up, I don't think it will have an SVT vibe at all, but I could be wrong! Mimicing the relative settings he used in the video on my Cali standard I could see where he may have been coming from, so if that is what he means then it will sound basically the same. The Darkglass will be completely transparent, so Doug claims. I'm not sure how I feel about that, to be honest.
7. These Geddy Lee models are superb, came very close to sticking £1800 on one of these earlier this year in pmt it was so nice. Way above your American Std, the neck is wonderful and the pickups very powerful.
8. I'v actually cancelled my pre-order with Thomann as Bass Direct have priced it much keener, surprising given the strength of the Euro. I will probably wait until it comes out now in truth, we will see
9.
I caved in too quickly and just ordered a Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor. I like the idea of the blend knob and how it works with the filter switch. I'm still interested in seeing what the DG can do but I felt it's a bit too much money for me, even after selling my VMTD.
I thought the DG price was very good to be honest, considering the competition of boutique compressors are all more expensive, Diamond, Empress, Origin e.t.c.
10. I was really impressed when I played one of these a couple of months back, and I have never been impressed by a Jazz before! The neck is sublime and the pickups are growly and loud!
11.
Fanboy!
But....but.... yeah, fair enough haha! Comes with one of these for maximum headroom
12. Up for sale I have this superb compression pedal, Standard version. Selling only as I am a Darkglass fanboy and have to buy their compressor..... That, and I need money in the short term for my upcoming holiday in the canaries Perfect working order and great condition with original box e.t.c. I will also include a Diago 9-18v adapter so you can use it at 18v with a regular 9v supply £200 shipped in the UK. Cheers!
13. Just traded high end pedals with Adam, smooth deal and exactly as described, top bloke!
14.
If you look in the "Item specifics" section, you'll see that the brand is given as "Warwick". Reported as a counterfeit.
Good shout, I managed to miss that. Reported as well. Devious bar steward.
15. Neck pocket done, neck carved. This Rosewood looks stunning, such crazy grain, I cannot wait to see it in the flesh!
16. I'v preordered the Darkglass Super Symmetry from Thomann so hopefully in a few weeks I can have a shootout with the original Cali76. The Super Symmetry will go back if it can't compete, if it can...
17.
What's wrong with it? Looking closely, I see that the veneer on the top is chipped, not quite finished well around the edges. The pickup routing looks slightly generous. I can't see anything else obviously wrong. The bridge and other hardware appear straight. The neck through body looks OK from the distance of the photos. Apart from the top veneer, which isn't a deal breaker for a cheap bass IMHO, what else is shoddy?
The standouts for me are: The top wood is awfully done The body wings are bizarre and unequal in size The bridge is off centre The pickups are not in line The pickups are also not parallel...unintentionally The bass shape is a clone of a Corvette $$ and, being familiar with the model, it is very difficult to look at as there is so much wrong with the shape. The control cavity is a very odd design The neck carve looks uneven, particularly behind the nut The tuners are out of line Every time I look at it I see something else. Shoddy is a very good word to describe it. Personally, I would rather a cheap P bass copy than a poorly done NT.
18.
I can`t really see anything wrong with the Ad. If anyone reads the description and thinks they are getting a Warwick, then they can only blame themselves. He even says he has no idea of the make of the bass.
No, there is nothing 'wrong' with the Ad. But, why name the gig bag make in the title? Why not comment, specifically, that this is a copy of a Warwick and not a real one? Where did he get this bass from? Yes, you would be pretty daft to buy this thinking it was the real deal, but people will make this mistake, particularly in the dying minutes of the auction. He is being devious.
19. But yet he is actually sneakily implying it could be a Warwick, whilst drawing unnecessary attention to the make of the gig bag in the title. I hate people like that, some poor [gullible] sod will bid on this thinking he is grabbing a bargain Warwick off someone who 'doesn't know' what he has.
20. Sold, pending.
