1. A tone block is not being able to recognise that wood choice has a significant impact on tone...
  2. A fantastic gesture I hope it goes to someone who deserves it, vet them appropriately!
  3. Nice little rare gem you have there! Love those laminations
  4. Kev

    Now sold

    Where are you based?
  5. I know, I think he will struggle to find someone wishing to give up a Warwick for a bloody Stingray! Decent price, it would seem?
  6. Great line, never really dedicated time to learn it. Marta Altesa on youtube completely nails it
  7.

Have you tried Elixir strings before?
I have, used them on a number of basses a good few years back. I was disappointed with them; the tone was never quite right for me and found the coating to be very flaky. Have not revisited since.

What other brands are you familiar with?
Many, but primarily D'Addario and DR

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
They will probably go on a Warwick bass.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
I do not gig, so this will be for recording in the studio and general practice.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I am a previous customer that has moved away due to dissatisfaction, so Elixir have their work cut out to turn me around!! I am also a fan of the coated DR strings, so it would make for an interesting comparison.

Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting)
Never reviewed a set of strings before, but you will find a few reviews in the review section on here, most recently a Warwick review http://basschat.co.uk/topic/239427-warwick-streamer-stage-i-5-string-2013/
  8. The bass is standard for the transitional time it was made. Cracking instrument, but has its issues and I hate they are being hidden and apparently lied about when questioned. Withdrawing the listing and using a dummy listing instead speaks volumes (and he has several of these dummy listings too). Straightforward violation of eBay terms so hopefully they will all be pulled.
  9. So he has gone this route instead http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warwick-Bass-Guitar-/171801893349?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item280030d9e5 No details to just invite emails, then he can tell them what he wants in private. Reported, for what good it will do.
  10. He listened then, maybe? I have had no response to my email though. We'll see how it's relisted I guess
  11. So, I remember it was sold here by the person who bought it from me: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224975-sold/page__p__2311453__hl__streamer%201988__fromsearch__1#entry2311453 So the neck was just sanded back (as I recalled) so will be just the same as it was, and the preamp was swapped out due to the fault. Hmm...
  12. http://www.ebay.co.u...-/171801897849? A warning about this bass; I used to own this and many facts about the instrument have not been disclosed in this listing! As is still visible, there is a crack in the neck that has been glued and should be fine, however is not particularly stable. My luthier has recommended that for the remainder of its life you should only really use the same gauge strings as adjustments to the truss rod could cause further damage to the neck. I did change strings on it and had no issues, however it is certainly something the buyer should know about. Also, when in my possession, the electronics were faulty. How major this was I never found out, but it appeared to be an issue with the MEC preamp - either the problem still exists or work has been done to correct the distortion. Be wary! Value is in the eye of the buyer, however I sold this for more than £1000 less than it is being advertised for now. I have contacted the seller to ask them to revise this listing with this information, as they have apparently told another eBayer that the mark on the neck is just wood grain!!! Thanks to roman_sub for pointing this out to me!
  13.
I remember seeing a similar lefty fretless 5 Thumb for sale on another forum which also had four knobs. The guy said it had a piezo fitted in the bridge. I wonder if this is what the extra knob could be?
Good shout, it could have a piezo bridge so that could well be it, picture isn't really clear enough to tell. Still, the knobs still confuse me as they are not the usual type, a gut shot would confirm if it is MEC or not, unless you already know? Details details details
  14.
Went down to Bass Direct t try out a couple of cabs, and while I was there I tried out these two darkglass pedals. I've been meaning to try the b7k out for AGES, just never had the chance to. So I was really looking forward to this and wasn't disappointed. I tried them with my Stingray, playing through a Markbass LM Tube and Bergantino CN212, so it was a nice clean rig so I could hear the full sound of the pedals. I had a play around with the both pedals. I played a few classic od bass lines, stuff like Song 2 by Blur and Starlight, Hysteria and Supermassive Black HoleBefore trying them, I thought I was going to really like the B7k. I've read a lot on it and listened to a lot of demos. And while I liked what I heard, the top end aggressiveness combined with my stingray made for a bit too much of a good thing. On the other hand, the vintage deluxe sounded badass playing the muse stuff, didn't anticipate it but loved the vintage drive with my stingray. To my ears at least, it sounded like the vintage deluxe was also capable of producing a larger variety of sounds too. So yeah, love the vintage deluxe. No point buying one while I'm not in a band, but as soon as I am will definitely be grabbing one of these
You may not have the same experience in a mix! I just had to over-EQ the Vintage to get a tone I liked and one that would cut through.
  15. This won't be stock. There is always the possibility of a custom shop, but this looks like the standard 3 knob layout with an extra knob out of pattern with the others. Gut shot please?
  16. Lovely bass! Big chunk of missing info though bud, what has happened with the preamp? Extra stacked knob from stock there
  17. This bass is now sold, pending payment on Sunday.
  18.
More than fair price that... I understand from talking to Paul earlier that the pricing structure is being revised for new builds, so this may shortly be even more of a bargain.
Is he still bringing back the Pro Series? Did think that may affect the custom prices.
