1. Why am I tempted by the B7K! I already have a B7K! and a B3K! I need help!
2. Couldn't find a thread for this gent, so figured I would make one and merge if necessary This bloke became the first person to ever respond to one of my Wanted threads with something I actually wanted! Deal struck for an old Warwick, honest deal and the guy even sent the bass to me without taking any payment, can't ask for more. Love this place Cheers bud!
3.
This confuses me, my basses are 2008 and 2005 Both have 38.9mm nuts and the neck depth front to back is 20mm approx. You sound so very informed and accurate, but mine don't comply. I also don't recall re-carving them with a Stanley knife and if someone else did, they did a real pro job. My basses are: J147007-08 - Fretless H117225-05 - Fretted K110687-04 - Corvette All the necks are the same and the fretted Streamer is a neck-through, so I doubt that's been changed. (before you suggest the necks aren't original) Please explain. I'm looking forward to learning from a real Warwick expert like yourself.
Forget the nut width and the depth of the neck, this is about the shape of the neck. The U profile was common in the naughties instruments, but there were still inconsistencies. The Limited Edition models, for example, seem to be carved quite slimly, certainly the Dirty Blond thumb I owned felt very different from a Streamer LX I owned from the same year. I must say though, I did not think the neck profile on the standard instruments changed much at all 2000-2009? One thing I would see, the U shape I have found more pronounced/obvious on the five string models.
4.
It's just worth remembering that current/contemporary Warwick necks are as thin as those of any other make. They were thicker only for a short period in the 1990s IIRC.
Generally, the Warwick "Baseball Bat" neck period was 1999/2000-2009. The handmade eighties and early nineties bass were very slim, mid to late nineties they were all over the place. Post 2009 they went back to being slim again, although not as slim as the vintage models (however that profile is available as a CS option). I have actually never played a fretless Warwick somehow(!), however I'm sure they are great, providing you like the Warwick tone! Very different from an SG, have you tried both? Just choose the year wisely. If you like slim necks, look at pre-1999 and post-2009 models, if you like the thick necks then grab something built in the naughties.
5.
Very good mm hardcase included and original pickup
what pickup is currently installed?
6.
Nice - looking to get these two at some point (when I have the money!). I'm planning on using the vt di for amp emulation/ a slightly warm sound, then the b7k for all-out drive. How do you use them?
Almost like that I use the VT Bass DI as an almost always-on Ampeg sim and a tiny weenie bit of grind, keeping the drive at about 9o'clock. I use the B7K after this for a heavier drive sound. I run the B3K in-between them at a high gain setting for a heavy, aggressive distortion. Nothing quite like stacking Darkglass Pedals
7.
Defo agree with rhythmbug, for your purposes I think the Sansamp VT Bass would be a lot more appropriate. The B3K and BDDI have a similar gnarly, quite scooped character to the grind sound. The Darkglass Vintage is popular around here as a drive pedal (I hate it personally), but I'm not sure how well the Deluxe version fares as a preamp pedal.
The EQ does the world of good to the VMT sound. I hated the original VMT too, however the EQ really brings it to life, very interactive with the Era control. I sold it as I just prefer the B3K/B7K voicing, so I have one of each of those instead!
8.
I prefer the Tech 21 Bass VT over the BDDI, more mid control and sounds more warm and natural. To my ears the BDDI was a bit clanky and metallic. Just my 2p
Yup. I have a B7K and the VT Bass DI and the latter would be far more suited to you Cal from what you are saying. However, if you fancy a bit of Darkglass thunder then the VMT Deluxe would be an ace choice too. You get what you pay for
9. Lee just sold me a envelope filter for a great price, quick delivery and pedal is perfect, great deal, cheers bud!
10. oosh, light for a dolphin too! Does have tone chambers which help
11. You have some stunning basses, Danny.
12. Some of the Warwicks on here at the moment, spoilt for choice! This looks like a custom order, not seen the uncoloured neck combination many times before, and it is a couple of years after EMGs were the norm. Look at that flame!! What is going on with the nut, not original?
13. I daresay you won't be the last to be disappointed by a Stingray 5, particularly if your a Stingray 4 player. However, the classic series fiver is the 'real' stingray 5 and I would love to give one of those a try. Sorry if I have induced further GAS
14. Bud, I would change the title to include that this is the B3K 2.0 Finland model, it should be flying out the door at this price! VT Bass DI is a good price too!
15. Gorgeous! Can we have a look at that ding in the neck? Pm if you wish
16.
The Wonderlove is more Mutron'ish just like the Proton, the best aprox to a meatball is the GR1/2.
I don't think I agree with that. The Wonderlove is a development of the GR2 circuit, basically the same with a few tweaks here and there, very much still on the Meatball side of things. The Proton is quite different from the Wonderlove and I wasn't a fan, although I own neither of them anymore as overall they both underwhelmed me. Would love to own a Meatball!
17. If you are after a creamy valve drive, the B7K won't be for you. The Vintage Microtubes Deluxe would be more up your street I would think, far less aggressive than the B7K.
18.
My schaller strap lock had a major fail a few months back and my bass would have certainly hit the floor if I hadn't managed to stop it.
How on earth did that happen? Did the strap button/screw fall out? Or where you jumping round like a lunatic? I can't see how it could fail to the point of the bass falling any other way...
19. Its tempting, for sure! Never played on one of the Set Neck models with the tone chambers, you're bloody far away though!
20. .. and I have just bought a B3K 2.0 and sold a vintage deluxe, I feel we should have talked
