I would very keen on trying one. $199 would put it cheaper than the competition.
2.
You not seen the euro lately Kev? So glad this isn't a broadneck, or I'd be in trouble!!
Even so, 1300 Euro for a Vintage Thumb fiver (not common by any means) is a superb deal. The Euro does help, and I benefited from that when I picked up my Wal
3. What is with some of the prices on this forum! This is insanely cheap!
4. Think this thread sums up the issue, every has a different opinion and taste on this so it is very difficult to give advice for you! You need to get out and try as many as you can. If I were recommending, VT Bass DI and B7K would be my recommendations to you, but that is what I like
5. Changed through few strings sets lately, this is another set that I have tried on my Warwick and then Wal and decided I prefer the super light gauge more. Had about an hour of use at the very most. Cut for 3 winds on a 2+2 headstock with the larger tuner posts, so should fit most 2 + 2 basses. £10 shipped Threw the packet away already so they will come in a flex steels pack, that is not what they are, they are these:
6. You need to try some pedals out. Youtube videos are the worst way of trying to find something. Aim second hand and try a few, you will easily sell them on if they are not for you, and that way you try them with YOUR bass and YOUR equipment with YOUR technique, all of which radically change how a drive pedal works.
7. Its 99% time relief or low nut slots. However, it can be the frets. How do they look, and does it quite suddenly stop buzzing after a certain point? EDIT wasn't totally clear what I meant there, if you bend the string when fretting on the fret, does it still buzz or stop? If it stops, that may point towards the first fret being worn. Is it just the first fret, or just worse there?
8. Great cash price on this!
9.
Apologies for the irrelevant image, but it seems to be working for me. I use the picture button in the post editor, then copy the URL into the dialogue box.
Aye, that be the way you do it
10. Yum!
According to this the price is $279, so I'd expect it to be more than £200. It will have to be really, really good at that price. http://www.premiergu...eils-the-scr-di
Hmm, I would expect closer to £279, given the way the pound-dollar usually works for us. £249, perhaps, which would put it above its competitors. The Scrambler side needs to be good to justify that, for sure.
12.
Vegetarian here I'm afraid.
I have some carrots? And a rather smashing looking turnip.
13. Does he realise that the top and bottom string are off the fretboard?
14. Just picked up a set of these from David off this here forum, strung them up on my Wal and found they are not for me. Literally had about 5 minutes use. They were fitted to a 4 so the B has not been cut but the E-G has been cut for 3 winds on a 2+2 headstock with the larger tuner posts, so should fit most. £20 shipped
15. Firstly, do you mean actual clones, or pedals that are designed to try and get that sound?
16.
Mind you the fender guitar was a design brief in how to create a cheap, mass produceable guitar....
The obvious reasons were the fact it was the first bass, not because of the quality
17.
I guess what I'm saying is that if I pulled the trigger on such a kit and added high quality hardware is there any reason why it can't be every bit as good as a high end boutique bass?
So many, many reasons, a lot of which has already been covered in this thread. It is how the wood is worked with by a skilled luthier that sets apart the cheap from the expensive. You could have the finest quality pieces of Ash and Maple in the world with the best hardware, pickups and preamps money can buy, but with all due respect you will not make a bass of Dingwall/Roscoe et al quality. That is why these companies exist, otherwise we would all be doing it People talk about big names selling instrument, but ask yourself how they became big names? Fender, well, for obvious reasons, but the likes of Wal, Dingwall, Roscoe, Fodera, they got their names because of the quality of their work with wood, and not because of the quality of the original planks of wood instead.
18. Ta for the info, those pickups look great, remind me of the Warwick Twin-J pickups, and they are excellent too! Best of luck with the sale, it's a stunner!
19.
That's lovely. Bubinga top and body of?? Is that mahogany?
I was thinking Walnut, but could be mahogany.... I'm not up on this model, what do all those knobs do! I'd guess some kind of semi parametric EQ based on the name...
20. Ahhh, so tempted but too much stuff coming in at the moment, need stuff going out! I could offer a kidney but I would need cash my way, perhaps a slice of liver?
