1. So, I recently picked up a rather stunning ACG in a trade deal on here and I am struggling somewhat to get my head around the preamps, I'm embarrassed to admit. The preamp model is EQ03 5K model, so the one with the two low pass filters with boost/cut, the high pass filter type control with boost cut and the tone knob. I already have a Wal so am familiar with filter preamps and how it all works, however I am struggling to dial in the tones I am looking for with this bass. Any pointers to start me off? Example settings to get various bass styles would be fantastic starting point for me to work from. I believe each of the 9 (yes, 9) knobs on the bass as 41 or so indents, which is a helluva lot of settings available!
2. These ones: http://www.stringsdi...r-strings-p1008 Brand new, unopened/unused etc. Top quality strings fitted to all German built high end Warwicks as standard, but of course suitable for any 5 string bass. £Sold including postage. Cheers
3. Early days, but it seems to be a cracking bass. Neck is wonderful and I love the flat board. The filter pre is fun, easier to dial in more traditional bass sounds than the Wal and love the addition of the tone knob, but overall they are very different basses. I like both
4. What is the back story here? Why the frankenwal and where are the original electronics? Interesting bass!
5. Having recently picked up an ACG Recurve, I can say that they are superb instruments and this will be no exception. The neck is wonderful
6. A few of my newly aquired Recurve SC 123 (ignore the Wal photo bomber....)
7. Just sorted out a trade deal with Andy, smooth as you like and both basses posted almost immediately, even when he was in bed with manflu Cheers bud, hope to deal with you again soon! Kev
8. Banjo frets on all Canadian Dingwalls (not sure about combustion), however the Lee Sklar has mandolin frets, which yes are even smaller. But, small frets all round indeed.
9. Ahhhh! Showing me the serial number hasn't helped my willpower! A birth year and birth month Warwick Thumb, yikes! Do you know how the truss rod was fitted? The standard Warwick fitting at this time meant that a truss rod just slid out when the nut was off, is this the same or is it glued in?
10. Dingwall think the same, the frets are tiny on the Lee Sklar signature. It puts me off, to be honest. Whether true or not, it just makes me think that a refret will be needed sooner rather than later after a few dresses.
11. I was watching it with interest and had an absolute maximum of £1200 limit in mind, based on its condition and the electrics work required. To me, that would have been a bargain, but selling at £1400 is about right I would say. If he lied about the electronics, send it back to him and Paypal would have your back, as a complete electrics replacement would be expensive indeed.
12.
I would rather pay five grand for that than a grand for a fake 1969 Fender P though...
I would rather pay five grand for that than anything with Fender on the headstock! It has been for sale for a long while, I believe. Not surprising , really! A one pickup version sold for ~£1400 this evening on eBay. A custom MK1 sold for £2500 or so recently on here, and that would be worth more than this old pro series, for sure
13. I'm glad someone else feels the same way as me about these newer Warwick instruments Stunning bases and excellent craftmanship. I think a lot of people who think low of Warwick really ought to give these new instruments a go, exceptional quality. Enjoy!
14. 7 piece bubinga wenge neck with wenge fingerboard and bubinga body wings Do you have a picture of the truss rod? Would be useful for many I would think!
15. Nice little trio! If I hadn't just agreed to give you all my spare cash I might have been interested in the Comp GLWTS
16.
probably over two years ago
Huh? It was on earlier this year
17. When this was at bass direct I looked at this at least once a day, I would love it
18. Bump. Keen on a cash sale now. A very similar all Ovangkol thumb Bass Direct is offered at Bass Direct for £1,300 at the moment... http://www.bassdirec..._Thumb_BO5.html Could well be taking it there to sell for that much if it doesn't go on here soon!
19.
I get it now. I'm not convinced. Having the strap part of the lock not actually attached to the strap gives me two more (very important) things I could lose. Also in the case of the failure I had, this method might well have resulted in disaster. Because what happened was that the locking mechanism wouldn't engage fully, the strap lock worked reasonably well when the bass was being worn but when I put it on the stand the two parts disengaged. Obviously with the strap being attached to the lock mechanism I noticed straight away that it had become detached and was aware that I could swing my bass about during the gig with the amount of enthusiasm I might normally employ. If the strap was just fitted to the button and I was relying on the lock part to hold it securely in place, the lock would probably have dropped off with the bass on the stand and with the strap still fitted to the button I might not have noticed and then been more energetic in my performance than was safe. Anyway I've switched to Schallers now. As I said before they've worked well for me for 30 or so years without incident, so I'm going to stick with them.
To be honest, I would never strap a bass on without thoroughly checking the strap and locks are secure, so the situation you describe wouldn't be an issue for me Schaller locks are indeed superior anyway and would always be my first choice.
20. They have form, http://www.seibass.com/seiflam5flessusd.html ; at least 3 owners since it sold from the Gallery, myself included.
