1.
.......or the CMD JB Players School combo ?
That seems like a bit of a budget MB amp, using a lesser quality speaker cone and weaker power amp than the Mini CMD's; If I was going down that route I would probably buy a CMD121P as I prefer 12's to 15's
I've only gone up to about 3/4 on the master but that was certainly loud and still clear. Given the way it responds to different basses I own, I get the feeling there might be some mileage in using a clean boost before the input to get maximum volume from passive or lower output basses, but I'm yet to try that out.
Cool Volume doesn't really concern me really, I just want a speaker than sounds as full and rich as possible at low volumes..and one that doesn't fart out should I choose to turn it up
2. Cool bass and tasty looking Ovangkol neck too!
3.
If you caan try to put the Micromark 801 on another cabinet like 2x10 and you will check, naturally this for small gig for home it dounds in perfect way and also to study thanks his aux in. Naturally my topic is because i made it.
Hi Marco, nice to see you on the forum! Are there any plans to upgrade/update the 801 any time soon, as I notice few UK stores stock them?
4.
You can't gig a 1 x 8 45 watt combo. That just won't work. There's a GK 200 watt 112 combo in the Sale section right now which might.
No intention to gig at all. This is purely for home practice, and 'full whack' is for when the neighbours are out
5. The 'full' sound was certainly something I was looking for, and I assume from the cone's 200w handling the sound is still crystal clear at full whack?
6. It was a good amp, but I fancied something different and to be honest I still do
7. As my status update indicates, I am looking for a small practice amp for use at home or relatively quiet jams only. The market seems to be completely inundated with micro combos these days, however the Markbass 801 has caught my eye and Thomann sells for about £350, which seems to be cheaper than anywhere else, It's tiny, but how does it sound? 45w doesn't sound much, but anything that sounds better than running through my Hitachi HiFi will be an improvement! I am also looking at things like the Roland Bass Cube and Ampeg offerings, but they all seem to be trying to be big amps with big sound and falling short, whereas the Markbass seems to be happy being what it is! I find PJB a little too clean (currently selling one of their larger combos) so not really interested in them. Any other suggestions please feel free to help me! Budget is the £300-£400 mark.
8. Lovely again, do they still do AG? Here is my 2010 4003 JG, I love it
9. The Flex Steels sound interesting, are they worth the extra money?
10.
HI Kev, Don' t want to compromise a potential sale but it was less than this with an almost new hard case,as new Levy's leather strap, TM Stevens lead and a tuning fork !. It was badly listed on ebay , it only said bass guitar in the listing header no mention of Spector and said collection only although the seller was really accommodating and allowed me to arrange my own courier. It was an absolute bargain for what I paid but I fancy a fretless so this will probably be the one of the ones to go as I like 4 strings better.
The market is slow at the moment for everything, but if you got it under £300 and it is mint then that's a decent deal
11.
Been travelling all day to pick this one up... Presenting my 1980 4001 in Azure-glow Sounds spot on, I'm just disappointed it's a bit late to be turning things up. Neck is dead straight and a pretty low action. More than a handful of 'Mojo', but nothing hideous. Very nice to play, the neck is nice and slim and smooth, and I'm finding the sweet spot with the neck pup on full and the bridge on half. I'm going to get it to Julian Mullan for a full service and fix-up. Thinking about some nice chrome flats. At the moment it's wearing yukky Roto stainless cheese graters. Very happy
Very nice!
12. I think £300 would be about right for a mint condition example, how much did you pay if you don't mind sharing?
13. Terrible time to sell gear at the moment, some silly bargains knocking about for sure. Certainly a time to keep hold of your stuff until the market picks up!

The Sound of Wood

Out with the SSII, in with the 4003
15. I thought you were after a P bass! Nice bit of wood, hang on to it!
16. If you want to go that far up the neck you probably haven't got the right bass
17. We are indeed Here is a nice vid demonstrating the amp with the extension Si talks about above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLkVS_KsFrg
18. Very, very good price on an awesome Roscoe. To casual onlookers, this is not the cheaper Standard range, this is a full on LG Best of luck with the sale, but I don't think you need luck!
19.
Thanks for the advice, chaps. I'm afraid Warwicks don't do anything for me. Every time I've played one, they left me cold. I know they're popular, well built and have a very vocal following. It's just one of those "Chemistry" things!
What era Warwicks have you tried? Later eighties instrument have a completely different feel and tone to late nineties, which in turn are very different from naughties models, which are different from the current models and popular? Warwicks have been very uncool for years now never rule a manufacturer out!
20. Have to say, Amplitube is the weakest iOS music app out of the popular ones for bass. Best by far for me is Guitarjack, but Ampkit is cool too. Look in the settings for something relating to running in the background, could well work. But If I were you I would download one of those 2 apps. My Ric through the B15n model on Guitarjack is superb
21.
Why is that when people go on about older guitars sounding better they are only ever talking about Fenders? Back in the 80's you'd get people crowing on about 62 Precision or whatever, and I suppose they were pretty much the only brand that could have much of a vintage being the first production basses. So somehow a 20 year old Fender sounded better than a new one. But now, you can get Warwick's or Status that are 20+ years of, and yet I've never heard anybody making claims for them sounding better. Weird. My first post, and I'm chuffed because I've just bought a 9 year old Warwick. My first bass since stopping playing about 10 years ago.
Interesting that you chose Warwick as an example, as I think there are many people who feel the older ones sound and feel better. I don't know about Status, don't think the way they have been built has changed much at all. I think in general it is not just about sound but about playability, aesthetics and the general vintage vibe, the latter being the only one a brand new 'custom built to your spec's' bass wont have. But, when you consider the costs of a 50's Precision or early 60's Jazz, you are paying an awful lot more than what most luthiers would charge for that vibe. Personally, I wouldn't even consider it. If you fancy a worn looking bass, play a new one for 30 years. If your impatient, get a Roadworn
