He also likes his strings very fresh, which will also help. He doesn't use too much in the way of effects, at all. All the tone is in the Jazz and those fingers.

Would you pay a small fee - to try out a bass/guitar?
Mmmm, I'm not sure about in-store but I'd be prepared to pay a reasonable amount for a take-out rental. For example,I've never touched a Warwick and paying for a weekend's rental would be an appealing idea. It might cause a bad attack of GAS though.
Yes, it would -
Apparently a new Russian style coffee shop in that London is open which offers free coffee and free wi-fi, but charges 3p a minute "rent" to customers length of stay in the shop. As an extension of that - I mused; would it work for guitar shops that suffer from show-rooming customers, (who trial an item in the shop but then buy for less online) to charge a fee (eg. £1 a min?) for an in-shop customer trial - refundable if it's then bought. If the item isn't bought then the amount of that trial's rent is discounted from the then ex-demo guitar/bass's price? Thereby if a guitar is demoed enough someone eventually gets it for a steal. Would you pay it - or would it put you off going into shops that did such? Would it deter the long traditional Saturday afternoon kids who widdle-widdle for hours on their dream guitar then put it back until next time? OK - if it doesn't pan out - it's your fault!
I think if music shops tried to introduce such an idea, it would be the final nail in their coffin. Why would anyone want to pay to try out an instrument? Do DFS start charging for sitting on sofas/beds? Clothes shops for trying things on? -

You will not believe the sound you get from the speakers! Superb Hi Definition sound that is incredibly clear and true to your basses tone...and your technique The previous owner dyed the cab Cream coloured, as opposed to it's original black. It isn't a perfect finish; there are some patches on the bottom of the combo from when I dabbled with removing the cream, but it looks great. If you did want to top it up, or indeed dye it black again, you can buy all the cans here: http://www.vinyldye....20Dye%20Vanilla Selling as I need something smaller as there is really no need for me to have such an amp. Will listen to trades, however no large amps please and would need cash my way. Obviously, I can just turn it down so it wont be the end of the world if it doesn't sell! These cost £1600 odd new, so grab a bargain!
Posted this in other thread and thought it belongs here! This beauty arrived Tuesday! Based on fix'd fuzz and with added filter controls on both fuzz tones and the final output, this covers all sorts of fuzz tones. Can go from really compressed driven phat bass to nice blended mellow fuzz tones when running singular tone, sounds better the louder it gets just begs to be turned to eleven! It self oscillates, a nice surprise, at extreme settings and THE most responsive fuzz ever played, acts differently to attack pressure and can get great subtle sluttery diminishing tones with different tone control. A really fun, awesome box of tricks! got a fantastic clean boost as well. Took me a while to get my head around the greatness of this box actually, the filters and how they blend ands a further element of sonic capabilities. Yeah, Tom is a cool guy, real patient with my banter, questions and pestering but most importantly he knows and pedals, a lot. Very happy
Looks cool buddy! Did you go for the LPF HPF filters? Have them on Inertia and they are great!
Cracked neck?? Never heard of a warwick doing that. Was it over adjusted or warped?? Yeah I know how the market is..... Mind you, there are worse things to be stuck with! I'm awaiting johns reply in the cs4 ......
Over adjusted by the previous owner I think, the top of the neck was rather weak on the old models, but I guess what was sacrificed in strength was gained in comfort. The CS is a stunner, I'd have done a deal with John if I could meet his price!
Thanks for the replies. I think the serial is cv4802 which makes it a 2002? Looks like it also has the thicker neck volute carve which I'm not so much a fan of. It's overseas so unable to try it and quite an outlay buying blind. The price is ok, around £1500 with shipping. Hmmmm
The volute really is fine and doesn't effect my playing. It is also quite reassuring having the volute, having seen several and owned one non-volute Warwick with a crack in that area If you are unsure, I would be hesitant about buying it. The market is slow and it may not be a matter of selling it on quickly if it isn't to your liking. You could be stuck with it for months!
Anyone that loves DR Sunbeams or Highbeams as I have for many years ought to try out the Dunlops. DR Strings old production manager now works for Dunlop string manufacturing and has a big influence; subsequently Dunlops sound and feel 'DR'ish'. I'm currently using the nickels on my vintage G&L's and I'm very impressed, almost SS sound but still warm and available at less than £13 per set delivered, they’re well worth a punt.
Just picked up a set of dunlops from amazon for £5.29, only one set from that seller, result

I get twitchy about buying instrument on UK EBay. It would take a very brave mood for me to even entertain the idea of buying a bass from eBay from the US. US online shops is a different matter, and I think a couple of those offer such a scheme.

can't bump or reply to my wanted ad in the sales section
Kev replied to 0175westwood29's topic in Site News
as the title states my wanted add is not visible as its gone down the list, yet cant bump it back to being visible is there a reason? i know people will find it with the search but i seem unable to respond to anything in that section, having paid £20 to use the section for a year how come i cant fully use it? andy
The wanted section is free of charge, so no £20 fee to use that bit Sadly, a very small minority of members chose to misuse the Wanted section by posting trade offers and details of their available instruments as a reply to the wanted thread, rather than pm or pay their own subscription and create threads to advertise their equipment, and as such the decision was taken to remove the ability to post in such threads. We are still looking at ways of improving the situation and make the section more useable, so please feel free to fire any ideas our way -
To repeat my comment in the Gear Porn thread: I can't imagine they will be worlds apart in terms of electronics. It will likely be a very similar, if not the same, preamp. Any chance you can have a play first? As the neck profile will be somewhat different from the 89, even more so if it has a gloss finish. Will have a deeper profile and feel a good bit chunkier. Weight should be about consistent with a 5 string version of what you have. DiMarco has a better knowledge of Lolphins than most, so hopefully he will be along to give a better answer. Value? Warwicks are all over the place at the moment, but anything under £1500 and IMO you are doing well

meh Like so many Warwick LTD's, it just doesn't do it for me. I would be interested to hear how it sounds with that electronics combination, but the general look of the bass and the wenge/maple neck/fretboard combination leaves me a little cold

I'd also be interested in Ditto X2 reviews!
Any experiences of a fretless 5 string dolphin pro 1 2001ish with Bart soap bars against an 89 4 string with Bart mm + j ? Owned the 4 for many years and may now have found a 5 for sale. Curious how the sound is with differents pickups and later manufacturing compares? What's a fair price for a 5 like this?
