Oh you can't really. I mean if you're like me, your brain will fill in the blanks on that when you can see the pickup and where you're playing, but nah all I'm talking about is the general resonant quality of the instrument. The more it resonates, the better it seems to sound unplugged, and that often translates when amplified. Visa Versa, if a bass sound and feels dead unplugged, pickups don't do much to help. YMMV!

Indeed. I can't remember anyone complaining in this vein about Neural Amp Models, or Quad Cortex Captures, amp plugins etc, yet all AI based. I don't even know where the line is these days, in what is truly defined as AI.

It likely did, in the same way Spotify does now, given that we're reminded continuously that they pay naff all. People more switched on realise streaming services aren't about making money, they're an EXCELLENT free marketing tool, and invaluable for grass roots music. But, like AI, that's another subject people get upset about.

Last time I checked, forever appreciated Just on the topic of my little joke that I presume you didn't chuckle at, it does still open an interesting debate as to why it is OK to accept an individual deliberately copying another person's/company's work for a profit without license, but a computer doing it anonymously for free is somehow abhorrent? (presumably it is free and people aren't paying to do this, I haven't tried making a muppet me, as indeed I am already too much of one as it is)

FOMO is strong with this one, but i echo that running both wouldn't really be a great solution to get behind. Cutting down to it could be anytime option, but don't know what the used market is like for QCs. I'd want a good chunk of money spare at the end of it.

Not really, where would they even scan?

Sincerely hope none of the members crying IP Theft have ever bought a cheap bass copy before
-
With modern multifx controllers, they are very much designed to not need adjustment mid performance, scenes/presets and whatnot, so i'd imagine there's no market for that.
-
Big nope! Unless they're EMGs

It's getting dangerously close to a tone wood argument I'll admit

I guess its how the woods and general build of the bass resonates. If its dead acoustically, that transfers through when amplified. If its loud and alive, that seems to too. The effect diminishes with active preamps and especially active pickups (I find anything with EMGs in the same positions sound the same).
-
Always the first test I give a bass. If it doesn't sound good unplugged, it doesn't usually sound good amplified either, unless it's running something like EMGs. Why? Don't know, but it's absolutely my experience of it.

Looking forward to some unbiased thoughts! Still working through the deep dive video, mega impressed with the bloke doing it, probably the clearest explanation of a complex device i've heard in a while, thorough but easy to listen to. It's a really interesting device, on the face of it i probably would have bought it over the Quad Cortex, but it'll take a hell of a lot to make me want to bother changing. Still, if Neural keep ignoring bassists, its going to be tempting if its as good as it seems!

Ohh I get it now, the EXP is on the send and the splitter is on the return. Feel they could have just squeezed an extra EXP socket on there, but that works. Edit* the manual says its the other way around than the video. Still much confused but either way, looks like it's possible.
-
It's interesting then that the manual doesn't advertise this use of the return in that case, good if it does work though!
-
I don't feel like a single stereo jack is capable of running a mono signal and an expression pedal input. I get confused when there's more than one ring, but I feel it's not that simple and the manual may be being misinterpreted there...
-
It gives a vibe of a compact version that has somehow come out before the main one, even though that won't be the case. Like it's been adapted to fit in a small enclosure? Seems odd to design a screen and UI that has to be scrolled to see a full signal chain?
-
I'd be amazed if they do. This is clearly a product aimed at drawing bass customers away from the likes of a QC, so if they weren't competing before, they are now!
-
It looks like it'll land at over £1k, which is getting VERY close to Quad Cortex money. Is it comparable? Edit* Actually £899 https://www.andertons.co.uk/darkglass-anagram-bass-workstation/

Any VIPs out in the wild yet? Would love to hear some real world feedback regarding that potentially dodgy right switch/pot placement, as even raised I still feel like it wouldn't last a week of my gig stomping! 😅

Seems a bit of an odd thing, that Overlord function, is that what's new with this version? Just feel like anyone looking to have that kind of tone will already have something separate for the fuzz (the Doom 2, for example!) that'll be much better and more usable. Seemed to get lost with the clean blend as well? Nice to hear it though, does sound good but it's a big price tag and hard to get compared to the many other octavers out there that sound very similar. Worth the outlay?
