check your patch cables? If one is dodgy it could cause an intermittent fault like you are describing? It could also be loose connections in one of the pedals?

Cheers guys. This is a little more like it
I'm happy to ship within mainland UK as long as buyer is prepared to pay full insurance or pick the item up in person. However, I will not ship abroad unless the buyer arranges his/her own courier. Reason? I once sold a vintage 335 to a guy in Spain who then, after the sale, got shirty about paying full insurance/shipping so I stupidly agreed to ship without insurance. Guitar securely boxed and shipped......and promptly disappeared off the tracking system! After a couple of weeks the buyer began asking for his money back and I was faced with no guitar and having to refund the seller. Then, in the third week, the guitar was found in the corner of a warehouse down south. It eventually did reach Spain (and a happy buyer) but the whole epsiode made me decide not to ship abroad again unless the buyer sorted out freight/ins. Since making that decision, I have happily sold abroad and sellers have been fine with organising the own freight/insurance. Sure, I will undoubtedly scare off buyers who are not prepared to accept my conditions but that's something I have learned to accept. I always pack instruments as securely as possible, with plenty of bubble-wrap/poly wotsits and after that it's in the hands of the courier company. I might add that a lot of overseas buyers have, in the past, questioned my overseas freight/ins quotes and that is another reason why I removed myself from that obligation.
But, after the buyer arranges the courier and something goes wrong; bass gets damaged and Insurance refuses to pay out as it wasn't shipped in a suitable hardcase, who pays for the repairs, you or your buyer?

Yeah, had fun reading about this on Talkbass. The loyalists really can be a bunch of ignorant t***s, pardon my french. I'm still very keen on picking up a 4004, but this kind of thing really makes me not want to make the investment.

Despite all my pedal buying, i still havn't tried a Mutron III. Personally, i don't think there is anything vintage that i would prefer over the modern equivalent these days, so many excellent pedals about. In terms of expensive, i would also like to spend some time with an Octavious Squeezer, reckon i could tame it

To be honest, i'm not too hung up about postage when its absolutely necessary. Last month i took delivery of a bass from Germany and it was packed brilliantly and arrived safe and sound. It's just the people that don't take so much care i worry about, and the biggest clue of a seller who doesn't care enough to pack well is one that says it's the buyers risk! The bass i collected today was a Roscoe, so obviously at some point it was shipped from the US without issue, allbeit by the builder!

Basschat just seems to be getting friendlier and friendlier...
Ater reading the perils of sending a bass i'm thinking of picking up my new Fender from the U.S. Does anyone know what airport is nearest to the Fender factory and how much the flight will cost taking in to consideration that i will require two seats so that the bass does not get damaged on the journey. I presume that every guitar and bass manufacturer does this otherwise how on earth do they arrive in the U.K. undamaged?
If your bass gets damaged in the post, Fender will assume responsibility and refund you appropriatley. That's the point of the thread, it should always be the seller's responsibility, whether that be Fender or Joe Bloggs.
f***ing incredible. How can you criticize this???
For the reasons people have said? He shows fantastic technique and i actually quite liked it (apart from the multiple-take thing, was the OP being ironic?), but it just isn't everyone's cup of tea. Some songs need a bassist to do their job, and this isn't it.

I love it, sounds fantastic as well, still smiling! Looking through the original purchase documents, this was actually the first Signature model to arrive in the UK (2009 model). Completely immaculate as well
It's the seller's responsibility to get the goods delivered. If the seller doesn't want to do that then he or she needs to say 'pick up or meet only'.
You gave that nail a headache.

Straying away from the main point I was making; if the bass is smashed to bits in the post, ultimately it is the seller who should be responsible, whether indemnified by insurance or not. Shipping just shouldn't be 'at buyers risk' Saying that, I travelled halfway across the country today to avoid having a bass posted, despite it costing me at least twice as much.

Roscoe Century Signature V. AAAA Exhibition Myrtle Burl top, Red Spanish Cedar with Ash laminate, Wenge Wedge neck, Pau Ferro fingerboard....I can't stop smiling These are iPhone pictures and sadly they represent all that is wrong with cheap cameras! I will borrow the missus' Nikon and take some real photos at some point, these just do not do the bass justice! The grain in both the Myrtle Burl and the Red Cedar is beautiful and the neck is just superb. This is a fantastic bass.

I tried some, loved the sound and feel, but they lasted me only as long a set of regular ernie ball strings. I concluded they were too expensive for what they are.

Wire wool is perfect, just be careful if you have a finished fingerboard. Tape should sort you out though

Increasingly seeing this in the forum and I don't think it's right. Surely as its the seller who knows the preshipping condition of the instrument, is ensuring the bass is packed well and wants to make the sale it should always be their responsibility? I wonder how many online bass shops would still be going if they adverised shipping at buyers risk! Then there is the whole trust issue... 'oh the truss rod worked fine when it was with me, must have been the courier...' etc. I have had a few things damaged in courier when I have sold them and I wouldn't dream of telling the buyer to deal with it themselves! Also, any insurance claim would have to be handled by the sender, so I'm at a loss really. Surely if a buyer wants to offer postage to assist his chance of a sale, he should be responsible?
