1. I wonder how many of the 'Hate it' crowd are any good at it....
2. iv sweeped about 80mb from mine
3. Persevere mate, don't drop that price! Lovely example of a BO 5, surely worth another 50% on what your asking in an ideal world!
4. My third bass, a Grind 6 string. I loved it, always wanted to get round to getting some EMG's in it (i'm not a passive man), but sold it in the end. Really nice bass for the money
5. His Too Young To Die tone is one of my fave tones. As already said, an old streamer stage 1, trace elliot amps and 6000 metric arseloads of compression might help you on the way, but the tone is all in his fingers.
6. That chunk was just a silly bargain!
7. If a grey came up for £50 i might give the guy more just to be polite! Fave fuzz of all time, that pedal
8. If a grey came up for £50 i might give the guy more just to be polite! Fave fuzz of all time, that pedal
9. Stunning One thing though, is it the lighting or is left maple body wing darker than the right?
10.
In my time on Basschat no-one, to my knowledge, knows more about Warwicks that warwickhunt. Along with him I am a great fan of Warwicks. Hear what he says and take note. A decent 90% 74 Jazz in decent condition will fetch about twice the current value of that Thumb. Even though the Thumb is ten times the bass.
Corrected that for you If you don't like Warwicks then don't bother with that deal, the Fender deal could easily fall through. I paid £1k for mine last month and couldn't be happier! Personally i wouldn't pay £200 for an old Fender
11.
Could be, but doubt it
You should watch them live, might remove some of the doubt
12. Bump for the Gremlin, superb and unique overdrive
13.
The Ashdown Hyperdrive (don't let the "James Lomenzo" signature scare you ) is really very very good. Around £75 new, and used £40-45. Don't trust the youtube videos. Yes, the sound on the videos is achievable, but it can do a lot more, and a lot better. I've tried a lot of pedals over the years, and this is the first one that really sounded great to me, keeping a great definition and a fat bass bit with a good distorted edge, not just a swarm of angry wasps on top of the bass sound or a farty bass. Regarding some of the others mentioned here that I have owned or still own... The MXR M80 is very good, but the distortion doesn't do subtle well. The MXR Blowtorch is very interesting, again not subtle, but great for some quasy-synth type of noises. The Digitech Bad Monkey is okay as a mild overdrive. But the Danelectro Transparent Overdrive (Cool Cat) is a similar pedal, a bit cheaper, that works substantially better. The Boss bass overdrive is... horrible. Unless you want always tons of ultra fuzzy distortion, this is not a good one. I like the Ibanez PD7, not mentioned here. It's not a great pedal, but I like its ability to add just some "metallic grit" on top of the undistorted bass using its clean setting wth the attack switch set at 1. Think of RHCP "By the way", the bit in the midle when the bass is left alone... you get a very similar sound. It does many other things, but that's the one I like best. The Digitech Bass Driver is a good substitute for the Boss overdrive, in that it gets much more useable sounds, and actually has some useable mild overdrive tones too, but it overlaps a lot with the Boss, so I prefer the Digitech. But the Ashdown Hyperdrive wins. Only problem is that it's huge. But you could use it to defend yourself if you're being mugged
Flea's 'By the way' tone you speak of was achieved using an ODB-3 Very good overdrive pedal at low-mid gain, in fact one of the best iv used. I too thought it was rubbish at first try, but after fiddling with its eq and blend you'll find its a great pedal. Also works great as a clean boost!
14.
where are you based, I have a 93 thumb bolt on neck 4 string fretted that I may part with, mike b
Oo is that a walnut thumb? Sounds like a lovely early BO you have there!
15. Brilliant amp's, these Although, i think you may be confusing power with the peak power rating, i'm fairly sure this is 150w with the exension cab.
16. Well i have been playing on and off for nearly 5 years now but i am really struggling to actually make my own pieces of music, largely because my musical theory knowledge is very, very basic! I am not particularly interested in being able to read music at the moment, but what i do want to do is learn scales, chords, triads etc in much more detail so i can at least begin playing at a level decent enough to attempt to put together my own bass lines. I am a fairly competent player already and consequently am quite happy to improvise when i play and know in my head what sounds right and what doesn't, but i always end up playing very similar things! I imagine improving my knowledge of the aforementioned will help me bit a little more creative. Basically looking for a good book that will help me with this, and that also may contain recommended practice routines etc. I don't, however, want a book that just jumps in at the deep end and makes me feel like giving up! I am definitely considering bass tuition lessons, but at the moment its a cost i cannot afford
17. Yesss mate, glad you got the precision sorted, been after one for a while iirc! Lovely, hows the B?
18.
Nice Bass/ piece of wood. Slightly perturbed by the juxtaposition of the "garden waste" receptacle in some shots, though...
Empty and unused, you might notice a significant lack of grass in my 'garden'!
19. Endless argument, this. At the end of the day, the Ryder bass owners are correct in berating JTUK for talking down about a bass he has never tried. JTUK has a point by saying you are getting what you pay for (regardless what you people think of it, you are getting a cheaply built bass from budget materials), and has been rounded on here because he has insulted several people's new toy. Live and let live?
20. Aesthetics are very important really, you'll never love a bass if you don't like how it looks. I actually LOVE the look of Warwicks so i can't relate to that, but the Musicman Bongo is an example, i love the sound of that bass but it just looks awful. Same goes for buying expensive versions of existing instruments and justifying it. For example i could never i don't think own a 'super' jazz or precision bass, as id look in the mirror and just see a bog standard boring Jazz or Precision copy that would look the same whether it was a £100 china copy or a £3000 USA sadowsky! IMO
21. Just though id comment, a Warwick 6 fits in these stands if its the same one i have got
