1. I would love to master a pick, but i am hopeless. Really, really hopeless! Switching strings at any kind of speed and it all goes horribly wrong, i do have a bit of respect of players that can manage it. Although even if i did master it, 99% of the time i would opt for fingers for too many reasons to list, but every now and again you need the extra attack that only a pick can make. One day!
2. ^^ i think reasons for people selling is a shady one. Sooo many times you see people selling their 'pride and joy' due to bills that need to be paid etc, but yet the next week they have a new, more expensive bass The people that actually use phrases like 'its not for me' or simply saying they don't like it are the people i am most comfortable buying off! Of course the vast majority of people, myself included more often than not, will exaggerate on how they feel about the bass, but i don't have time for people that lie to make a sale seem more appropriate.
3. -1 for Home Delivery Network Recently had them ship a new amp to me. They did not turn up to the sellers address on the day they were booked for (IIRC, they were booked at least 2 working days in advance). Seller called the next day, excuse was the drive 'ran out of time'. Did not collect til around 4pm that day as well (!). 48h service, and true enough they attempted to deliver 2 days later. I was unfortunately not in so went to the depot at the weekend to pick it up. After waiting in a 3 person queue for 30 minutes (!!), was finally given the amp. The seller had wrapped the amp in a way that the handle was usable to assist in carrying. This handle had arrived snapped (a feat i wouldn't even think possible with a sturdy plastic handle on 10kg head without heavy mishandling) and the packaging battered and torn in several places. Something was clearly sliding round inside the head as well. Got home, opened it up to find the main transistor board had managed to come loose from the case (Screwed in when collected), the cooling fan wires snapped and several other wires disconnected. Manged to get it all fixed and it seems to be running okay now, albeit with the fan being a little loud (although i have gone from a Markbass to a Trace Elliot so that could explain it). The amp handle must have broken and caused the amp to fall to the floor, a very noticeable bit of damage to the parcel, but no notification to me at all. Very rarely have a problem with couriers, but i shan't be using them again.
4.
the bubinga neckthrough will have only marginal differences to the ash bolt ons.
Really? Have to say, im another that thinks generally its BS that the type of wood makes a difference, but i have always noticed quite a large difference between NT and BO instruments. Bubinga does seem to have a pretty unique tone itself as well, lovely dense wood. Then again, perhaps its all just one's interpretation of the sound. I assume you are comparing to his NT Thumb's, as there is no NT Corvette? (pretty sure i havn't got this one wrong...)
5. Oh, well im completely wrong then apparently!
6. What an unusual little sale thread! Gotta be worth a punt for £150 for someone!
7.
^ What he said. Try and hold out for an older one as you'll be more used to the slimmer wenge neck. Lots are passive so don't expect the grunt you get with the EMG equipped Thumbs so maybe think about upgrades? Build quality is excellent and there's some really nice bubinga examples out there.
I didn't think the older Wenge-necked Corvette's had a passive option, did they??
8. I defy anyone that suggests there is another bass for sale anywhere right now that can compare with this for that price, such a shame to see prices in the gutter the way they are. Will have a Wenge neck this one too...
9. Now is certainly the time for Corvette's, they truly are going for silly money. The German Corvette standards have been discontinued are now being built in Korea (?) under the 'Pro Series' banner and are no longer German made. The Standard German 'Vettes of old are going for about £400-£500 at the moment, which is a superb price. The cheaper Ash ones are going for about £50-£100 less a pop but its probably a Bubinga one you should be seeking out (although being an owner of two thumbs you don't need me to tell you this The Proline's are discontinued too, they were basically a standard corvette but with a lovely flamed maple body.
10. Don't recall it being a phrase i use at all. I often say how much i bought it for and i almost always sell it for less. I bought my Warwick 6 string for £899 last May, didn't gig nor add a scratch to it and ended up selling it for *choke* £650. The amount of owners has nothing to do with it, but buying a bass for £xxx 6 months ago doesn't mean its still worth the same amount now even if you haven't used it, the market changes!
11. Definitely the pearloid one , I'v always thought plain white pickguards look real cheap and nasty. Although if it was me, black all the way
12.
+1 Very hard to find. Maybe only on vinyl. I have a copy on disc that a friend did a transfer from his album. PM me if you like and if I can find it will do you a copy.
It's okay, iv found a digital copy so its all good, thanks anyway though Particularly liking Manring's, Hellborg's and Lawson's stuff at the moment, cheers for the recomendations guys
13. I hope its a keeper mate! Is that an early sterling as well??
14. i am fairly sure it is 14 working days after the cheque has been banked that the money is officially 'cleared'. The bank will not reject a cheque payment after this.
15. Very true! Nah this one was bought from Pete (Scooby) on here, replaced my now sold Proline, no regrets!
16. Liking Soliloquy alot, having a listen to Trip Wamsley 'it's better this way' online now thanks for suggestions, i'm looking for electric bass rather than DB, particularly solo without other instruments
17. Jamiroquai bass tracks anyone?? Zender era preferred?
18. Picked up this beauty on Saturday, May '90 Warwick Thumb NT Thumb, dream bass the almost quilted bubinga top is just stunning and looks different from every angle and the neck is just perfect! More pics to come when my internet connection stops refusing to upload!
19. Fancy broadining my musical tastes and fancy trying out some solo bass music, anyone have any recommendations?? Looking for solo bass stuff, rather than lead bass with a group behind it
20. Just picked up my dream bass from Pete earlier today, 1990 Thumb NT 4, couldn't be happier!
21. I like the line "They were getting a little too good for their own good" which in fact is the exact opposite of the reason why they were discontinued. Should get pulled really for that title, does not represent the bass. And the headstock is far from legit...
22. And another bump. Got alot of watchers on ebay this time, but of course would much rather sell on here! Go on, you know you want to
23. Bump I'm already making a £180 loss on this bass after less than 12 months ownership, so really can't afford to lower the price any more, its a fantastic bass that would have been about £2k new. I can't really play it, but i will be forced to keep it if it doesn't sell for what i'm asking.
