1.
Pics Please !!, and this man is why I'm so interested in a thumb, that Tone is KILLER! Ryan Martinie is awesome https://www.youtube....h?v=wmjX2S04DEQ
Ryan Martinie is one of the reasons I picked up a Thumb, his work with early Mudvayne is great.
2. Balance on a Thumb does seem to vary and the older models do seem to fair better than the new ones. Pretty much zero on my '89. Quite different basses, Streamers and Thumbs. Very different tone, particularly the 5 string versions I assume you will be looking at, different neck widths as standard as well. Feel very different on strap, not just balance issues but the first position is further away from the body on a thumb, will be more noticeable the higher up you have it on the strap. For me, Thumbs are fantastic instruments and have always preferred them to Streamers. Currently have one of each though...
3.
what a pair of beauts! how does that double p config sound? especially with the mirrored arrangement... the back of that Thumb is very tasty. I take it the neck is Wenge with cherrywood streamers(forgive me if that isnt the correct term)?
Double P is very aggressive and mid forward and a good deal louder than most other Warwick's I've had. Perhaps lacking a touch in the bass department when the bridge is solo'd, not surprising given the position of the pup. Preamp a little limited, tempted to install a Darkglass Pre to have more control of the mids. Preamp doesn't seem to be the usual MEC 2 band, voiced differently to my ears. Thumb neck is bubinga stringers
4. The reach is real, but coming from Dingwalls and their 37" B strings, its nothing more for me. The wood on it is just awesome: The streamer is a beauty but needs some fretwork doing on it. Tempted to do something with the pickups and preamp too, but anxious about devaluing!
5. Didn't know they did a BO Katana, who knew Never really been a fan of the shape but at that price for a German instrument you can't go wrong!
6. Great changes on the B3K, the tone knob is the best part of the M900 pre.
7.
For shame Kev, We'll have a good talk about the virtues of Precision Basses the next time we meet up for a deal.
8.
Why do that?
P Bass?
9. Yikes, that's clean. tempted.com
10. It is 100% fine to swap the one way truss rod around, I have done the same with one of my Warwick basses Wonders of a removable Truss rod!
11. Two of my current trio
12. Alpha-Omega > B7K.... unreal.
13. To be fair, the only thing they have in common is the Jazz shape. Quite different models.
14. Impressed with the skills of a few people in this thread, I must confess to having no ability in determining the design, build quality and sound of a speaker cabinet from a jpeg and a price. Personally, I am going to go a test one (at BD in the company of the great cabs available, mostly at a higher price) and see how it compares. My Berg NV cab is wonderful (and ceramic too) so it will be hard to beat!
15. Do you have a value for each bass mate?
16.
Definitely not impossible. I have what I think is an early 90s Streamer with no serial whatsoever. Even after removing the polyurethane finish we still couldn't find anything.
It's very uncommon with natural oil finishes, very common on the vintage poly finished basses 🙂
17. Yeah plenty of pics will help, as will a photo of the top of the headstock as its odd (but not impossible) that there is no serial (even the very first Streamers had one).
18.
Paper thin from memory. Usa one is actually quite deep. Rather like a Ric neck.
Must say I disagree with that, for me it feels very different from a Ric neck.
19.
What's the nut width on this particular one? 38.5mm?
It will be bud yeah
20. Hmm, sounds like an expensive accidental knock of a switch waiting to happen...hopefully that has been thought through!
21. Oof. Good job you kept this hidden on Sunday, else I may have relieved you of both!
22. For me, a bass needs some weight. I am still yet to find a lightweight bass that has the depth and richness of a heavier bass. Heaviest I had was a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 5, 13lb, too heavy to gig with (rather active on stage) but oh my the sound.
23.
Just picked up my dream bass from Pete earlier today, 1990 Thumb NT 4, couldn't be happier!
I did it again, only this time it was a 1989 model, I'm equally ecstatic! Cheers mate.
24. Just traded basses and cash with this chap, drove a long way to make the deal happen, great stuff all round!
