Did you ever trade an instrument on talkbass?
Kev replied to fiatcoupe432's topic in General Discussion
Whenever I have contacted anyone about a bass on Talkbass, I have always got pretty rudely dismissed as a non-US resident and as such impossible to deal with..... Not quite as global friendly a place as here -
Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 & 500 big price difference, why?
Kev replied to Osiris's topic in Amps and Cabs
More companies jumping on the 'brexit' philosophy and raising prices. There is no justification for raising the price of items that are already in stock . I hate big business! -
For me, a good multi effects pedal is a very good thing indeed, providing you are comparing like for like. Comparing a Zoom multi with a standalone boutique pedal for example is just plain daft, their RRPs are practically the same!! Try comparing with Fractal/Eventide etc. That being said, I have never found any kind of dirt sound that could compete with analog pedals. Otherwise, if anything digital wins out pretty much all other categories for me.

I would imagine you get the best results after the compressor, but just experiment

Interesting how people's opinions differ! I love his demos too.
Don't the Barefaced tweeter controls operate backwards, i.e anticlockwise to "open up" the tweeter?
Can't comment on the current generation, but Gen2 tweeters did not work that way.
I'm pleased to say that I will be taking delivery of this beauty soon ! Sadly has meant I've had to let go of my Wick Dirty Blond, but how many basses can a man play ?!!
oOo
I reckon the Harvest has just as good protection, if not better than the Mono. Even if it may not look like it, they're VERY well padded. Mine seems to have some sort of board in the back of it as well to keep things rigid.
I haven't really come across anything quite like the "Boot" of the Vertigo case. Always a weak point in more traditional gig bags for me. I'm sure the Harvest is brilliant!
The Harvest full leather gig bags are currently £259 on their web site. With the Mono M80 gig bags being listed at £200-ish, the difference is not as great as it was.
Jesus, Mono have increased prices, my Vertigo was around £130 when I got it 2 years ago and it was more expensive than the M80 then. Can't imagine any other gig bag protecting it as much, but yeah if they are now as much as £200 then leather isn't that much after all!

Seeing some serious inspiration in some of those designs... I would quite like a leather gig bag, but its a helluva investment for what is ultimately style over substance in many ways.

Only tried mine with Bergantino 1x12 and 2x12 and Barefaced 1x12s. Sounded great with both, but really excels with the Bergantinos. Mid character really marries well.

Darkglass M900 vs Darkglass Vintage Ultra and Orange Terror
Kev replied to Bigwan's topic in Amps and Cabs
OK I'll admit I've never really been a huge fan of Darkglass pedals. But yesterday I visited guitarguitar in Glasgow and experienced the Darkglass amp first hand. Impressed would be putting it mildly! Having said that I have never found the Orange Terror I have (actually the 3rd one I've owned) lacking in volume. So, would there be any particular disadvantage to sticking a Darkglass Vintage Ultra in the fx return of the Orange, or should I front up and get the Darkglass amp outright? Anyone have any personal experiences of doing similar (calling Kev!)? I should also say I was very impressed by both the Fender Nate Mendel and the Mesa Subway 1x12 and 1x15 cabs I tried the amp with, even if the new price of the Mesa cabs is extortionate in the extreme. £850 for a 1x12? Err, no...
You calleth, Kev cometh! Disadvantage would depend on your tone goals Clearly, by keeping the Orange and using the Vintage Ultra, you don't have the B3K circuit at your disposal, and I must say this circuit combined with the M900 Tone and Gain control really expands the use of that circuit for those who found the pedal too trebly/harsh. The Tone control is very, very useful and I often wonder now why the pedals never incorporated it. I find the amp's drive circuit better and more useful and flexible than the pedals because of these features. Talking clean channels now (or as clean as the Orange gets), having never played through the other amp I can't be sure but I would imagine they are pretty different. The Darkglass is super clean and punchy with the microtubes circuit off, with it on you can add as much or as little grit as you want to great effect, so on the basis of what you will be using the Orange/DG for I would say the M900 is a much more flexible setup. One of the main reasons why I bought the amp is cost, funnily enough. I had a B7K Ultra and a Vintage Ultra on my board, going into a Tecamp head. Selling those three raised enough cash to buy a new M900 and cash to spare, and it has not left me wanting for flexibility at all. I think the M900 is excellent value for what it is, especially compared to the competition. Like I say, I actually prefer the combined drive circuit and tone/gain options on the head. The M900 is also MUCH louder than the Tecamp was, which in turn I thought was very loud compared to the GK and Aguilar amps that came before it. Goes down to 2ohms too, if you ever need it Mesa prices are insane, Ill stick with the relatively bargainous Bergantino, thanks Oh, and show me a sexier looking bass amp on the market. -
Are we looking at Originals or Cover band? One very much an easier proposition that the other for a 6 month regular paid gig turnaround!

Daniel is only a small builder and has attempted to get a U.K. Dealer with no luck I understand.

My query is this. Live, I aways send the bass to PA as well as through the cab on stage. I'll only usually do this through a mic'd cab or my Omnicabsim cab sim pedal, mainly the latter unless the sound guy kicks up a fuss. I wont DI straight from the amp as I find it sounds too unnatural by comparison. The Omnicabsim will sit in my amp's effects loop, with the dry out returning to the amp and the DI from the pedal going FOH. That being said, I'm warming to the idea of blending the signal I am sending to FOH, say 50% mic'd/omnicabsim and 50% DI from head, so I get the best of both worlds. What is the best way of me doing this?
Interesting that they will sell them used but not new?
Not particularly, could be any one of a hundred reasons why they don't stock new that wouldn't apply to taking one as a trade in/commission sale e.t.c.

Ever played a bass that made you think you played better?
Kev replied to Harryburke14's topic in Bass Guitars
9 times out of 10 its the setup, but yes absolutely, Funnily enough, though, a walnut 4003 I tried at guitarguitar had the opposite effect for me.. -

Sovtek Bubble Font green muff, legendary vintage big muff in the green tank box. This one is in very good condition, feet and battery door missing and a few marks here and there but much better than average. Knobs aren't scratchy, jacks/footswitch are good and its had a 9v power supply fitted so it can be daisy chained with everything else. Awesome example, nothing quite like these. Clones just don't have what these have. I'll sort some pictures soon. Looking for £195 shipped in the U.K. Extra for Europe/worldwide.
