1.
Not ICE equipped? However it is class D! Do you know what power section is inside?
I chuckled at that too, not Ice equipped being used as a positive confused me a little... Of course, the module is just one small part of how the Class D head will perform, hence why some sound MUCH better than others despite having similar modules. Much misconception about this knocking about!
2.
It looks like a great amp but £1000+. Far too much money for me for that type of amp. The EBS Reidmar has similar features and can be had for about half the price of the Mesa. Frank.
It is crazy, and the less said about the UK price in comparison the better!
3. Still looking for a skin beating fiend, folks. Gig on 4th December but then nothing booked until Metal 2 The Masses in the new year, plenty of time to get tight!
4.
Location please?
Leamington Spa
5. Well hows that for a bargain. All for a good chunk less than the cost of the current Big Baby.
6.
I just noticed that Bass Direct have started stocking these. http://www.bassdirec...um_strings.html Does anybody have experience with them? My only knowledge of them is from them constantly being brought up in Talkbass threads. The gauges on display look a bit ridiculous. I love heavily downtuned doom music but is there any real benefit for being able to tune to the octave below a low E string? The hybrid drop F sharp set is a bit tempting. Basically the same as my four string set of 120-50 D'addarios tuned to C sharp standard with a low F sharp string instead of a B string. The question is, how the hell will a 174 gauge string fit on my string saddle? I presume that they are tapered?
They haven't started stocking them, I believe that is the last of the stock they had. Apparently they have been trying to get more in from Kalium but having no luck. I ordered a set through Bass Direct what must be 6 months ago now (stock request, not paid for), I'v lost hope they will ever arrive. Iv also had problems getting any response from Kalium, and the last order I had from them (shared order with another member on here) was completely wrong. Good strings, but not worth the hassle sadly. Try Newtone.
7. Don't see many of the Rockbass neck through basses, they seem great value for money
8. Why change if you are happy? We all suffer from GAS, but is there a point in going down that road if the current setup does all you need?
9.
I had a couple fo BF cabs last year and in to this year. They are great cabs but i felt they didn't do it for me. I ended up with a Vanderkley 115MN6 and couldn't be happier. For my style of playing, and doing general covers, the 115MN6 seems to fill out the mix much better, without the extended lows i had struggled with when i had my BB2. Ive been back to the same venues i gigged the BB2 in and can confirm (to my ears) the 1x15 sounded more even and thicker. Of course sounding thicker might mean coloured, but if so that worked for me. I found the upper notes quite weak with my BF cabs, but not so with the 115MN6. They have more punch and presence. I loved the BF cabs at first, it was only after a few gigs that i noticed they werent working for me. They do produce a lovely tone though. Of course thats all subjective but thats my experience.
Interesting comparison. Certainly that was not my experience with the Vanderkley 12's, but the 15 looks like a very different cab with the extra driver...
10. Oh, and why is it you are limiting yourself to these two brands?
11. As people have said, no answer given here will be of any use to you. But, my contribution! I replaced my Vanderkley 112MNT with a Bergantino as I found the berg to be lighter, more compact (small car) and it had something in the tone that made the Vanderkley sound sterile in comparison to my ears. I have just replaced the Berg with Barefaced as per my recent NCD thread, so technically I have chosen Barefaced over Vanderkley. The Barefaced I found to have better tone and dispersion than the Berg, and much deeper low end. Does this help, probably not!
12. So did a good 2 hour rehearsal with the band tonight (with this kind of music) up against two guitarists armed with AxeFX, Blackstar Valves and 4x12 cabs. They sounded superb. Found myself rolling the tweeter almost all the way off as I was getting enough highs without it (a pedal I uses rolls high end off anyway). My tone sounded HUGE. The Darkglass amp was running at 4ohms so the full 900w was being pumped out into these cabs. As you will see in the picture, I barely turned the thing past 9'oclock. I turned it up to 12 o'clock for fun and quite comfortably drowned out the guitarist who had turned his 100W valve head right up. The room was vibrating and the air coming out of the bass ports was crazy. Incredible stuff To compare the Super Compact alone (I really bother trying the Midget alone) to the Bergantino CN112 I used previously (the cab that for me performed better than the Vanderkley MNT112 beast I had before it) there was a very specific noticeable difference; the Barefaced had much more low end. And deep low end too, the kind you feel rather than necessarily hear, it was very satisfying indeed. The room we were in tonight as well is a bit pants acoustically and the bottom tends to disappear, so it was particularly pleasing to hear it perform so well in there. The one comment I would make about the comparison with the Berg is that I did not find the Barefaced to be noticeably louder as such. Or, to put it this way, I had the level on the amp about the same for each. Of course, this could be a different story on stage when there is some distance from the cab. But the Barefaced sounded much, much better, with a much fuller tone and deeper low end. The Berg is quite mid heavy which is great for cutting through but sometimes its a bit to much, whereas the Barefaced is far more balanced and rounded. The Barefaced also seemed to project the sound better, you don't need to be directly in front of it to hear it properly, something the Berg and other low profile 1x12's iv tried suffer from. The two cabs stacked really well, overhang aside . Although cab size plays its part, I definitely heard a tonal difference between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 drivers. I found the Midget to be more mid forward than the Super Compact, and with the tweeter off the Midget did not seem to handle highs as well as the SC. Turning the amp closer to full power, the Midget felt like it was being pushed harder, never strained by any means but the cone was dancing away. The SC seemed to be lapping the power up and hungry for more! But the tone and performance of the two together seemed really, really good and I am looking forward to trying these out at a gig. Our first gig as a band is coming up on 4th December so we'll see how they do! I would still like to try this against some other 2x12 stacks to see if they are 'louder' or not, but they are certainly the best 12's I have tried whilst experimenting with various cabs this year.
13. Those cabs are voiced quite differently, I can't imagine it would work too well.
14. Driving home from rehearsal now. Very, very impressed. More soon!
15.
Underhang is fine
Yuk
16. Bump and big price drop! Need a sale on this! Would go lovely with the Sica loaded combo also for sale at the mo. Worth pointing out that these are not your typical Ashdown cabs. No blueline speakers here, these contain top quality performing drivers and sound superb.
17.
Due in the UK in December, I believe, with an RRP of £1050.
!!! Choke a dozen donkeys on that!
18.
Oh no .. overhang ....
Haha, I also had to make a slight modification to the amp's feet to make it clear the Midget T's handle....eek!
19.
Interesting combo of old gen Midget and new SC. Will be interesting to hear how they fare together. I still rate the sC as my favourite ever cab and cannot wait to be able to afford one again
Had a word with Alex about it and apparently he thinks the Midget T is arguably a better match for the Super Compact than the original Compact
20.
You should know better than to believe everything you read on the internet. Looking forward to your impressions.
They certainly promise a lot. I tried a Gen 1 Compact out and wasn't particularly impressed, my opinion on Barefaced has sort of been based on this, as well as the slight disbelief that their 1x12 cabs can only be compared to 2x12 from anyone else. However at house level volumes both of these cabs sound very good indeed, so I am looking forward to putting them to the test I'll also be able to AB each of them against a Berg 112, which will be interesting!
21. Gorgeous instrument, but why not return it to G4M? You should have 30 days?
22. I have finally yielded, let's see what all the fuss is about:- Barefaced Super Compact Gen 3 and Midget T Gen 2. I'm hoping that I won't need this full mini stack and the Super Compact will be enough on it's own, but we will see First rehearsal with them on Sunday, first gig at the start of December, lets see how they do!
