1.
I know there is a lot of love on these hallowed pages for WAL basses, I have never had the chance to play one, so what makes them so special? I have owned a couple of Status basses and could never take to the sound of them, they seemed too thick sounding, all treble and bass with no middle, for some reason I imagine WAL's have the same kind of sound?
Pickups and preamps are what make Wals so unique. Mulicoil pickups for each string, filter based preamp. Makes for a very unique sounding bass. And, incidentally, I cannot think of any bass that sounds less like a Status!
 2. Greatest Streamers ever built, with the flamed maple bodies and predominantly maple neck with wenge stringers. Superb instrument
 3.
I''m familiar with the u-retro and have it in my Shuker jazz. But the Darkglass sounds interesting, how have you guys wired it ?
5 knob config, Volume - Dingwall Switch - Bass - Lo Mid - Hi Mid I also had series/parallel switches for each pickup installed at the same time, huge expansion of the original passive sound.
 4. Yup, depends what you are after. The Darkglass Tone Capsule was literally made for Dingwalls and Dingwall pickups, it has got its own tone but its a magnificent one. Not one if you want passive and active to sound the same when flat. Glockenklang is standard. I would look at Nordstrand too.
 5.
What's the rush? I always wait with new amps to see if any kinks need ironing out.
....you are familiar with GAS, right? I have complete faith in Doug and the team, which is why I was happy to receive one of the first in the country. I know if it has any issues, they will be sorted.
 6.
Pretty stable, but few small tweaks.
Still enjoying that Future Impact? I half expected a marketplace influx but it appears they are that good!
 7.
It definitely has a sound of its own... for those looking for that sound inbetween the b7k and vintage.
That made me chuckle! You should try the Vintage Ultra, gets VERY close to B7K flat attack tones. It doesn't get as metallic, but certainly covers a very broad range. I can see its already in the classifieds, it was the only pedal you were keeping 3 days ago alongside a Cog!
 8. Darkglass Super Symmetry for me, every other compressor I have used has changed the tone too much. The Super Symmetry is very transparent, with a slight highs roll-off to take the edge off. Very 'phat' sound as a result. Definitely a compressor which you notice more when its off then on. Great metering, parallel compression, all the controls you would want... great unit
 9. I noticed that on Thoman haha they are just speakon connectors, which you do indeed twist!
 10. Consider the Darkglass M900 or Mesa Subway and you will be able to add a 4ohm later too
 11. Looks to be a cool gig, we're on early doors (Barbikan) but should be staying for the duration. All for charity too! Time to get festive!
 12.
Nice solid clean and a fairly dirty vintage dirt. TBH I'll probably get the ultra this year coming up.
It will certainly give you a lot more than the Ampeg. The EQ section is superb, and the pedal is much more flexible that its more metallic B7K brother. Costs a good chunk more, but the Darkglass gear is worth it.
 13. Looked at this again, I really can't believe how much he is asking for this. Its a mess. But it has a laser, so thats okay.
 14. If it does come Warwick/Leamington way I could be interested in ABing it with the M900, see how much extra 'heft' it has for its weight
 15. I did mention earlier in this thread it was very ambitious of Andertons to have such an early delivery date as Doug had already said to me they were completely backlogged until the end of November, so that date certainly makes sense. BD haven't had their first stock yet AFAIK, so Id try them
 16. Expensive for a BO Thumb. Id wait for a NT if I were you, or a cheaper BO
 17. Darkglass are releasing cases in a month or so, worth hanging on for now
 18. A couple of beauties in Bass Direct when I popped over earlier today
 19.
Careful Kev, you're seriously paraphrasing there. Kevin prefers the Ashdown but nowhere did he say that it equalled or outperformed for volume/loudness/dispersion etc. Also really worth bearing in mind Kevin's modded the cab so the standard RM isn't what's being compared here
That's fair enough, I was perhaps wrongly assuming he/sound engineers didn't choose the weaker performer. It could well be more about value for money. And I'm aware it's not the standard spec, but the price Ashdown quote for the upgrade is still a fair whack cheaper.
 20.
Well I've now done several gigs with the Ashdown RM 12 with the Sica 700w driver fitted , Word of warning these speakers are not a straight exchange if you are thinking of doing it yourself , The hole needs another 3.5 mm routed out .Ashdown can do this for you & this version works out at about £380 . As I said before I've only done this because I have the ABM1000 . I took the Barefaced to both gigs & swapped the cabs mid set & Had two professional sound engineer friends at both gigs to give me feed back . Conclusion was quite simple for me I'll be selling two Barefaced super compacts in great condition with roqsolid covers .
Blimey, food for thought indeed! Seems like a superb cab on that basis! The thing that really interests me (and I'm truly not baiting BF owners intentionally here) is that these equal the Barefaced cabs for volume/loudness/dispersion or however you wish to phrase it. Of course, tone is subjective and others may prefer one over the other for that, but it's very interesting indeed that these equal or perhaps even outperform the Barefaced cabs/drivers in a real world setting, given how they claim they perform compared to similar speaker cabinets. How have Ashdown achieved this?
 21.
Right chaps.... Anyone know of a good bag that will fit it properly?
I'm interested in this too!
 22.
Good luck to them! Absolutely nothing wrong with charging - they're a shop, that's what they are there for
Out of interest, why do you feel there is absolutely nothing wrong with charging? The box technically belongs to the person who purchased the item it came in. Why should a shop be allowed to sell a product twice? To me, that is absolutely wrong, no nothing about it. You really can't get anything for free these days
 23.
Can you get these things smooth, velvety and furry like a B15 at optimum volume or are they always 'metalised' when you engage the microtubes? Darkglass seem to attract aggressive players who want a sound with attitude on most videos I see.
Thats the problem, Microtubes circuits have a reputation of just being for aggressive sounds and styles. Reality is, even the B*K circuit can sound warm and gritty if you use it right. The Vintage circuit though, it was primarily designed to get tones like you describe, but again people tend to demo its more aggressive nature.
