  1. Hey, remember the OP ? You know, the person who asked a perfectly reasonable question, just to watch their thread turn into a argument ? I wonder how they're getting on ? Probrably on Reddit, getting a reasonable answer. 🤣
  2. Yes, we're just starting out, and it's originals and we need a good drummer as the material's quite challenging, so I appreciate it's not like an established cover band. I think it's just my enthusiasm has completely dried up after 35 years of being in bands with slowly diminishing returns. I've not picked up a bass in about three weeks - I wonder whether it's worthwhile just quitting playing for (insert period of time here) not thinking about it and seeing if I come back with more interest.
  3. We've talked about this as a band and it's not something we like the idea of, aware of the fact that we _could_ but....well, don't want to. But, you indeed have a valid point 👍
  4. I've decided to give up on trying to join a band, as over the last maybe 5-10 years I've found it nigh on impossible to get together with people who I want to make music with. My current 'band' has been without a drummer for 6 months, we've not got together for a couple of months, so I feel it's just come to a halt. It all feels a lot of effort for no payoff, over and over again Rather depressingly, I feel this is almost certainly going to lead me to quitting playing altogether as I've no desire to play bass without doing it with a band. I've no idea why it's turned out this way, or why it's so damn hard to find a band. In London FFS ! Shouldn't it be easier with this many people ? Oddly all my musical friends elsewhere in the country are all in bands. Maybe it's me ? I'll not rule out this possibility Anyhow, sorry, kinda jumped on the thread to moan a bit.
  5. Too much Hatchie at the moment Huzzah for the Shoegaze revival !
  6. I don't ever think I did, apart from some groundless dreaming in my late teens. I've only ever wanted to be in a band with nice people, making good music and having fun doing it. And that's when I've been happiest.
  7. I stuck a small oblong of black perspex-y material (I think it was the remains of a smashed camera filter) on the scratchplate of my Sterling as a very thin anchor/thumbrest. It worked very well. I think the point I'm trying to make is that rest doesn't have to be that thick to be effective. The piece I used was about 3mm thick. HTH
  8. Great stuff, thanks for testing this out. It's just the kind of thing I'd quite happily spend an afternoon tinkering with 👍
  9. I use Supalux 669s from Thomann. Cheap, and by no means a 'pro' pair, but my hearing is pretty shot and I can't see the point in pouring fine wine into a old, cracked and somewhat greasy mug Actually I'm the same with HDTV - I don't have hi-def vision...
  10. That sounds really, really good. Top work !
  11. You are Rishi Sunak and I claim my five pounds
  12. If you were in London...I literally have a fretless sitting in the very same corner you describe. Sorry, not much help...
  13. Could the copper tape in the nut be making a better connection to the strings than your fingers ? The strings will be earthed at the bridge via their windings I guess, but aren't a good connection along their length as they're coated. If the copper nut grounds to the string cores...? Just a thought, seems odd that soft copper would cut the windings, but I have no experience of coated strings. Possible late night thinking going on here
  14. Try telling that to a horse !
  15. Fertile indeed ! For some reason the whole goth angle slipped my mind. Maybe I'm just blanking out my goth years I served David Gedge when I worked in WHSmiths in Leeds. He bought a Cosmo and something like a Marie Claire. There you go. I've had very few brushes with fame, as you can tell
  16. Still 'one of those bands' for me. Still love them. Ian Masters' bass playing was a huge influence on my playing...lots of chords and drones. In fact, I'm off to put 'In Ribbons' on now 👍
  17. Chris Wolstenholme - amazing bass lines, but Muse ? No ta. Same with Justin Chancellor and Tool. I can manage the odd song, but again...no.
  18. Leeds, where I had the misfortune to grow up has been pretty fertile. The Pale Saints The Wedding Present Scritti Politti Age Of Chance Gang Of Four Chumbawamba Oh, and of course...U-U-Utah Saints
  19. Same here.
  20. You need a case that big to contain all that...rock Looks fantastic !
  21. "...he only wants a little bit of butter for his bread" Let it go, it's gone.
  22. There are doohikies available available to do just this job. https://www.songbirdfx.com/products/birdcord/ (Just the first one that popped up btw)
  23. That's great - do let us know how it goes !
  24. Get in ! That's awesome news, and it sounds properly organised. Well chuffed for you.👍 See, in effect, you own that weird chap at the earlier open mic a favour...
