i'm with mbk on this...it's a fine exercise in 'how many strings can i get on one instrument' but a total waste of wood imho

HTH Steve[/quote] yes - it's a 12V fan...i just stripped the power connector off and ran it into the screw terminals on the board in the amp/ i'll have a look at that site later... and i guess they are Bipolar transistors, but I'm going to see how they go. I can't see a major meltdown happening before i get a silent fan.

i normally use the Di on my ampeg svp-pro, which seems to be ok... the best i've used is my ridge farm gas cooker

that is an incredible job you've done there alien. very professional indeed. can't wait to hear what it sounds like.

well. that's 50 mins of noodling at bedroom volume and the heatsink feels no hotter than before. i'll remount the fan tho, but leave it disconnected... thanks for the thoughts folks, and the heads to bounce some ideas off

well, i've just swapped the original fan for one i discovered in a box of pc bits, and it's turned out to be noisier !! so i'm going to run it without a fan for a bit and see what happens...hopefully not the china syndrome !!

as i've mentioned before, i'm tired of the whirring of cooling fans... and i'm wondering about disconnecting the cooling fan on my 150w trace elliot head...i only ever use it for home practise, so it's hardly what you could call loud. anyone tried this ? i realise it may be risky, which is why i'm asking before i try.

the vast majority of the basslines i noodle along to i don't play live... but then i don't play covers !!

on the plus side i've always thought it's better if someone quits than just becomes uninterested. you may be miffed he's leaving old horse, but at least he's told you outright rather than just becoming less and less interested and dragging you all down as well.
