  1. I'd guess it's another pickup, but it does look a bit lashed {leshed} up ? It does look very cool.
  2. Somebody told him "You're gonna need a preamp with that"
  3. They did a similar job on one of Jack Casady's - I've seen a few pictures of him playing a similar knobfested Guild.
  4. Alembic did a few discrete mods to a Guild Starfire for him
  5. Modern pop(ular) music isn't aimed at middle-aged bass players, just as the popular music of my youth wasn't aimed at my grandad. To be honest, if I turned on, say BBC Radio One, and found the music fascinatingly diverse and stumulating, I'd assume something had gone wrong with the radio, my brain, or modern culture
  6. After a misty morning meet-up outside a station in South London I'm now the very happy owner of Cosmo's Spector NS2000. I can only echo what's been said above - Ben's a lovely chap, really easy to deal with, great communication - total class ! 👍
  7. That's what Mrs. Pook says about me.
  8. If they did one, they'd not just do one... There'd be the Squire 6, the Squire Pro 6, the Modern Player 6, the Vintera 6, the Player Classic 6, the Futuroscope 6, the Herbie Goes Bananas 6...
  9. Ramps ? Disinclined from the start.
  10. Glad to hear it ! I really wish it had worked out for me, I was just averse to having to 'fix' a new bass as soon as it arrived. I'd also asked both retailers to check for any grounding issues before purchase, both said they had and the basses arrived with obvious problems - if a retailer fibs to me I'm not really that keen on giving them any money.
  11. I was very much hoping to add to this thread with my purchase of a Ethos 4 string. I've had to return two of them to different retailers due to bad grounding issues - something that, judging by reviews online, isn't an unusual occurrence. Real shame - the Ethos had the 1.57" nut and .70" bridge spacing, which I love on my NS2000, but there's no excuse for shonking wiring at this price IMHO. Just a warning to anyone thinking of getting one.
  12. I might have some spares that could be of use. Pm'd
  13. My wife really encouraged me to buy myself a bass for Christmas, so I ordered one from a bass shop...it turned up faulty I returned it and tried another shop. Not a bass shop, just a music store...a bit more expensive, but I'd really liked the bass, so I thought I'd order it from there, and oh...same fault No bass for Christmas.
  14. I always keep my thumb over the back of the neck. If you press for a minute or two, all the thrashing and screaming stops and and everything is peaceful again.
  15. Good luck - I hope you find something to suit you soon. I think the 'kiss a lot of frogs' approach is the best way to look at it. I've had quite a lot of success on JMB, both my current bands got together there. You sometimes end up down a few dead ends, but that's the way it goes.
  16. They are indeed wonderful basses.
  17. It will as it happens - check out post #29 here. The pickup is asymmetrical, but a very easy job to flip it as you said. Sorry to hijack :)
  18. Deffo. GLWTS.
  19. Ah, another part of the story - I didn't know that, thanks. It does rather just add to the 'meh' somewhat :) But yes, the 'mojo' associated with certain types or makes of pedals is quite staggering sometimes...much like the 'magic' LM308 chip. However...good news for those who have stuff to flog and can find a mojo-eyed buyer waiting with cash !
  20. There's a lot of mystique about various issues of Rats. I sold a 'Woodcutter' Rat a while back for a song just because a certain chap who made them ('Woodcutter') made better Rats...from the same components as everyone else who made them. There you go Anyway, original Whitefaces can go for up to £200 in good condition IIRC.
  21. Oooh, they're naked. 🧐
