this Freebass thing doesn't look promising at all. 3 bassists (is Mani playing guitar?) and no songwriter, by the sounds of things. Hooky playing his same old licks on that demo track. http://www.myspace.com/peterhookneworder but I thought Hooky sounded great on the single from Perry Farrell's Satellite party "wish upon a dog star". http://www.myspace.com/satelliteparty
is that him ? sounds very un-hooky to me !!! plus the one on freebass...hooky just plays the same stuff over and over again these days.

and it went really well. don't think we got more than 10 listeners tho !!!!
-
ashdowns wooly ? i totally agree - i've tried their heads on a number of occasions and think they sound very dull.
I never want to be as good as Victor. I can see the appeal in it, but i'm more interested in writing songs with my bands mates, and in shaping the sound and feel of these songs.
i'm with you there, but i'd debate the use of the word 'good' i see virtoso bass players like victor wooten on youtube, etc. and so on and it just does not appeal to me...to be honest it bores me stupid a lot of the time. i can appreciate the skills, but it's not where i'd like to be, bass-playing wise. now...coming up with a good bassline to a tune where what you do complements what's going on in the rest of the tune - that's important to me. but ymmv as always
If the BDI21 has problems DI'ing and being too quiet, wouldn't adding a pre-amp booster pedal do the trick and increase the volume?
before the pedal ? no - it's prolly overdrive the pedal itself.
-
odd - i was having this same conversation with a guitar friend of mine who was asking me why i use separate pedals and not a multi-fx. multi-fx pedals just tend to have stuff i never use on them like reverbs and delays, pitch-shifters and so on, so i stick to pedals... also i tend to use a couple of different overdrives and cascade them to get different sounds, which has always seemed more difficult with multis... each to their own in the end though. but if you do decide to ditch the nano small stone, bung me a pm !

at £250 i'd be very tempted...it may not sound very authentic.... but either way....still a lot of fun.
Are you thinking of The Guitar Shop more or less opposite Aitken Bro's electronics shop? Up a few stairs and round the corner on the way to The Old George? (It's still there but is 99% guitar orientated. Occasionally has a bass or two in but I've never seen bass amps or cabs.)
that's the one...lots of high end guitars ? he was a nice chap who used to be in there...
-
yeah - windows is just sh*te now there was a place in a little square opposite an electrical shop on hood street (?) just before it opened onto the bigg market...can't remember the name tho...it was up some stairs.... soz - it's been 5 years since i left the toon.
is that why you've got that gas mask on?
no - i wear that anyway a lot of the stink may be due to the case...it smells pretty rank too, so i'll be trying out the newspaper trick tonight !! many thanks and keep the gross-out stories coming.

i got a dean markley overlord valve overdrive pedal from the one in newcastle. £40 i paid. it fell apart about 6 months later, sadly. but still a bargain i think
-
the schematic is pretty straighforward...for £40 you could prolly build one.... http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/dist_250_sc.gif

you HAVE to go to howard's bass place if it's still there http://trustedplaces.com/review/uk/newcast...rd-s-bass-place if you ask him if he remembers the guy who bought a musicman sabre from him years ago... he does great setups and repairs, and always has some weird and wonderful basses in the shop.

"Isolated audio track of bassist John Entwistle playing "Won't Get Fooled Again", filmed for The Kids Are Alright documentary" from the mixing desk i guess... presumably they'd record the concert on multi track for mixing to the film later... or they recorded just entwistle for the documentary.
I honestly had to look that one up. The Fleetwood Mac song? YouTube here I come... edit: the ending? The old Formula One theme? OK.
that's the one !!
Smoke On The Water PS: in a local guitar shop, they have the usual list of banned guitar pieces: Stairway To Heaven etc.
haha - sheerers in leeds had a list like that when i was at school...it had a list of guitar ruffs...stairway to heaven, smoke on the water, foxy lady etc. and at the bottom ? "and for bassists...the chain" i never know what to play when i'm trying out a bass. i was trying out some overdrive pedals a few weeks back and i ended up playing some my bloody valentine and sonic youth songs. after a minute or two i realised i had an audience of 3 young lads. they looked very confused...i'm not quite sure what they expected me to be playing
-
be difficult to put my finger on it, but prolly something by joy division...maybe 'she's lost control' ?? first bassline i learned (or rather was taught) was 'a forest' by the cure.

good god !!! i just got my 80's jazz bass out of the case it's been in for the last year or two. it used to be my no. 1 gigging bass until i got my pj. jaysus ! does it stink...pub carpets and 1000 cigarette butts. i mean folks...i smoke and it still kinda turned my stomach to play it. any tips for getting rid of the smell ?
-
ok...i've stopped mathering and this is the pedalboard for the upcoming drum and bass radio session. fender cowpoke >> behringer tuner >> aria platinum drive >> cae line booster >> ehx micro q-tron >> ehx small clone >> behringer bdi >> desk i've had to put the cae booster in there, and run it to make up for the vol boost that comes from the q-tron.
