1.
I have a simple bolt together lightweight frame made from some thin angled steel (bolts together to make a simple goalpost shape) from wickes. The missus stitched the backdrop so we can feed the horizontal steel through the top before bolting the uprights on. Theres some rubber feet on the bottom so we just lean it up against the wall behind us. The horizontal is made from two pieces so we just overlap it and gaff tape it to suit the width of the stage. At its widest its about 6m and its about 2.5m high. Very simple and basic but it's never failed in 4 yrs of playing pubs, clubs and biker fests. I think the key to ours is that the black cloth we use is very lightweight (i.e pretty cheap).
Be good to see a pic of that - sounds like a good simple solution.
2.
I've said it before, but some venues will require the banner to be flame retardant. I've seen sarcastic stage managers take a lighter to a bunch to check. Dan
To flame proof them you need only buy something like Lanceyln Flame Retarder (IIRC) i's about £10 a bottle - you just spry it on. It's what they use to flame proof theatre sets.
3. Can the 8B and 6B be used together, or does it provide an odd amount of ohms?
4. I really like layout 1. Just looks right, with a good balance of retro and modern.
5. Hi All, I hope this is the right section for this post. As some of you may, or may not know, I work for a music charity in Reading called Readipop. We're soon to launch or new Band Academy - a new take on music education for young people - bringing together the best elements of instrumental tuition, band skills, music workshops and performance into a combined programme that aims to inspire, develop originality and provide fun, creative challenges in a supportive professional environment. Band Academy runs on Saturdays. It is open to young people aged 11 – 16 and is aimed at beginner/intermediate level guitarists, singers, bass players and drummers. Absolute beginners are welcome. If you know anyone that may be interested in this then please let them know, full details are on Readipop.co.uk and I'll be happy to arrange a discount for BCers Cheers Rob
6. no worries. It was good to be reminded of the track.
7. I love this track - makes me feel young again I'm pretty sure it's just one note for the verse. Chugging 8th notes on the open E IIRC (like about half of that album). It sounds like he's doing a lot more because the drum pattern and keys give the illusion that there's a lot of movement in the bass. The trick is to try and sound like you're tearing the strings off of the bass!
8. Good progress, and it's coming together really quickly
9. FWIW I think Ableton Live is really good fun, although the diff way of working took a bit of time to get my head around - however I'm not sure what qulaity is achievable with Ableton as AFAIK it's primary use is Live. A lot of M Audio products come with a free version of Ableton Live Lite, which can b a really cost effective way of experimenting with it.
I have an old version of Reason (can't remember what version it is) that I used to use mostly for demoing new songs, I never really used it for anything serious so I never bothered to upgrade it. I do like it though, I like how quick and easy it is to work with. I haven't used Record but I like the look of it. Again it's something I haven't bothered with because I don't have a pressing enough need to justify the price.
I had an old version of Reason - and it only cost me about 100 euros to upgrade it to the latest version and get Record - not really a big money investment at all if you already have Reason.
10. I've just had my first day playing with Record. It was an upgrade from Reason 3.0 (upgrade to Reason 5 and Record for about 100 Euros ) Really easy to use straight out the box, and great for those less technically minded like myself, but if Reason is anything to go by then you'll be able to push the software really far.
11. Is the brown stuff some sort of sealer coat? I'd have though it was ok to leave that on, provided it's all flat etc, if you're going to paint over it.
12. FX25 now sold Just the Stylophone, deep freeze and Switchblade still up for sale.

Shuker.
this just in from the man himself. im well happy
Cool, I bet your happy, I'm not normally a fan of Buckeye.. but that's rather tasty.
14. I find monitoring a real issue with upright, above all else if I can't hear myself it doesn't help my already patchy intonation. I've been toying with getting one of these or something similar, and having in ears, but before the mixer so it's only upright.
I am a 14 months into the double bass and have done gigs where I have played two sets without any problems and others where I have to go to the Wal after one.
I guess that's why runners call it 'Hitting the wal"
15. Boss ODB3 now sold, and wheeling it's way up north.
16. THanks for the interest, PMs replied too.
Run a Big Muff into the FX25. It's the closest I've ever heard to Sir Psycho Sexy!
Ooh, I'd not thought of that, I really like the sound of an octaver into the FX25, sounds all squishy
17. Having a bit of a clear out and saving up for something, not sure what but will likely have strings and fill out the bottom end... DOD FX 63 Deep Freeze - Stereo Bass Chorus £40 = p&p Bit of an unusual one this. I actually really like the pedal just haven't used it for years, and when testing it this afternoon did wind up loosing quite a lot of time. It's a chorus pedal that leans a little towards flange too, I think it makes a great sound and won't be sad if I don't sell it. It's discontinued and I can't find a guide price on them which makes me think it's quite rare. The controls are brilliant, labelled "Chill" "Cold" "Deep" & "Defrost" can't remember what they do, but it's all in the instructions. Probably the best thing of all is the fact that the instructions have a photo of some nuns on a sledge, nothing says bass chorus like nuns on a sledge. Still with original box and instructions, although the box has seen better days. Electro Harmonix SwitchBlade £15 + p&p A pedal with an awesome name that does something incredibly mundane. It does flexible channel switching, i.e between two basses, or two pedal boards, I suppose even two speaker cabs. I used it to create a little loop with my electric bass on one, and my Upright going into an EQ pedal on the other. Worked fine but I quickly realised that I'll rarely be in that situation again as it was a one off dep gig. Gigged once, still in the box and in mint condition. Stylophone Beatbox £7 + p&p Not really a pedal this, but didn't seem worth giving it's own thread. This is a drum version of the old Stylophone's has a bunch of different kit sounds in it, and has a frustrating little looping feature. You've probably seen Brett Domino playing one. I got it for my brother for Christmas, forgetting that the day before I'd already bought my brother one for Christmas:confused: Brand new and Unopened. SOLD [s]Aphex Punch Factory - Compressor £50 = p&p Great optical compressor, really easy to use, sounds good, and has the nifty function of taking just about any power supply, also a very usable DI. I'm just not using it anymore. If I don't sell it I may well try it with my upright. It's in the original box with instructions, although the hang tag is missing.[/s] SOLD [s]Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive £40 = p&p I bought this when I was in a rock band, where it never got used, ironically it got used for a handful of gigs in a hip hop group I was with. I'm sure you all know what it does, works fine and in VGC Comes with original box and all paper work SOLDDOD FX25 Envelope Filter Call it £20 = p&p I've had this pedal for years, but haven't used it once since getting my Q-Tron. I'm sure you all know what it does - a funky envelope filter, when I bought it I was under the impression that it was the one Flea used on Sir Psycho Sexy. It's in gigged condition, lots of little knocks all over it, none effect the performance, however at some point in it's history the socket that you'd plug a power supply into seems to have disappeared, i'm assuming into the pedal, - see pic. Still works fine with a battery, but will need fiddling with to receive a power supply. Would also benefit from a squirt of WD40 on the screws and what not. Comes with the wrong box (which it has lived in for years) and no instructions I'm afraid. [/s] ________________________________________________ I'm happy to bundle some of these together, p&p will be whatever it actually costs, as I'm not looking to make a profit on that, or you're welcome to come and collect, talk about bass and drink tea, I might even buy you a biscuit I'll include brand new batteries appropriate to each pedal. ________________________________________________ I'm also selling a few other bits: 2 x BFM Jack 210's = £210 each £400 the pair Sennheiser E604 - drum mic (brand new and unused) = £90 Some Long Speakon leads - contact me for lengths and price
18. Is it the kind for a side mounting Jack? Because the J Retro deluxe needs the bass to have the side loading jack.
19. Looking great, and the neatness of the work always astounds me to think that it's all done with hand tools. Top Job
20. Looking good, and you're making really good progress on these.
21.
yea. it'll be interested to see if ben feels like winding 16 seperate coils on the wal style humbuckers.
Good luck - there's a long thread about that on TB... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=432803
22.
Reminds me of a Facebook pic where some fat bloke is taking the whole pic up .
Yeah bloody upright. The day I bought it my wife got home took one step in the living room and said "What the f*** have you done". It takes up about half the room, every now and then I think about selling it, and then pick up some gigs (largely because I own an upright rahter than for my ham fisted attmepts at playing it!)
23. Looking good, what are the pickups?
