You can deal with that just by putting in an empty bar, surely?
Yup, good idea.
That's a good point about the increase of tempo whilst playing. I wasn't very clear. My instructor has told me to practice my scales using a metronome, (which I do!), and to slowly increase the tempo so that my dexterity get's better. I.E. say a Gmaj.scale starting at 70bpm a few runs throughs at this tempo then increase to 80 bpm a few run throughs, etc, etc. So I was looking for software which would enable me to do this
That's what I figured you wanted it for, I still feel it's best to rpactice at one tempo, pause, then at a faster tempo, pause etc. I think if you practice with tthe speed continually increasing over time it won't do your time keeping much good as you'll be used to it speeding up. It needn't be a long pause, only a few secs (or however long it takes to up the speed of your click) but I personally feel that obvious diferentiation between the two tempos is very important, and give my students the same advice. Speed can be used as an expression in the same way as pitch, volume etc.

Mmmm, TE bright Box, lovely bit of kit. I agree with several of the above posts, a Trace Combo would be a good call. TBH, comparing an Eden and an Ashdown, the Ashdown is never going to compare, tweeters or not, IMHO. But a trace will come close at a much more affordale price, they are a little out of favour atm because they are quite bulky, so you should be able to bag a bargain second hand.

A little off topic, but I don;t think it's a good idea to increase the tempo as you are playing, else it might sneak in as a regular habit. I prefer to play, stop - increase the tempo, then play some more. I just worry that if you are used to speeding up as you play that will be the natural thing to do, even when you aren;t intending to you amy find yourself pushing the beat a little too much. Software wise though a lot of recording software has a facility to set up a click that changs speed. But that could be a v.expensive route

Just to add my 2 cents... I've flown with my bass a lot, and find the best case is a regular hiscox hardcse. When I've used a full on flight case in the past it comes back a lot more battered, I put this down to the weight of the thing and baggae handler being p'd off and chucking it around more, the hiscox should be fine, it will take a beating, but I've never had a problem. (Touch wood) I've always slackend the stings about a tone/semi tone, and make sure you pack your tools for set uo just in case) Definatley use the Silica Gel, works a treat, as a habit I now store it with all my bass kit. As for locking the case - I don't think you are allowed to - IIRC if you lock it (as with any flight baggage) the security staff have the right to break it open, and very probably will, because when they X ray it they'll see lots of interesting looking wires etc... Again the catches on your case should be fine You have no chance of getting a hardcase on as hand luggage, but it is possible with a gig bag, make sure you take your MU Instrument passport and kick up a fuss saying, "do you know how valuable this is, i'm not putting it in the hold, i'l sit with it on my lap if i have too..." The downside to this is there's a good chance they'll still say no, and then you have to put your bass, in a gig bag in the hold. I know a player who does this regularly and so far it's been fine (he gigs abroad a lot). That said he just bought a cheap squire jazz for his international gigs so he doesn't care to much if it gets thrown around.

Anertons in Guildford had some nemesis cabas cheap lst time I was there. I run my eden through a BFM O15 best sound i've ever had - but you have to build it yourself...
If I'm going to spend a load of money on a nice amp I want it to colour my sound, hence the SWR. I tried a WT800 for a few weeks and I always found the tone to be a bit muddy, it was like SWR without the bright character.
arrggh, Andy you've made me wan an SWR all over again and I haven't got the money I use the WT405 - and actually find it a little to bright! I was playing through an SWR the other day and I do love their sound. The valve pre makes it slightly less 'clinical' than the Eden (mine is all solid state - no valve) which is what I really like about it. Unlike the Ampeg where the SWR colours your tone I don't think it muddys it up, or colours it nearly as much.
One 'b'!
Sorry Alex, really pisses me off when people call me 'Gilmore' so I should know better.
rite, omni 15 it is! Low end is what i want, and the 15 will give me it. I would love to hear one of these before it build it though. Anyone around oxford or the South east London area (croydon) that has an omni 15 that they wouldn't mind me having a quick listen to?
I'm in Reading - PM me if you want to come by.

I have no idea about how to biamp it i'm afraid - Alex Clabber will probably know. I'd be surprised if you need to though, it is very loud. The crossover will be ok to build as long as you take your time. You should read Dave Perry thought's for his comarison as he's already built both...
I blame all of you! I Am set on making one this summer because of you lot! However im still torn between a omni 10 or 15. Given the choise to start from scratch having not made one of these before, which cab would you choose? In terms of low end, is the 15 that much better?
I'll let you know once I've finished making my O10, but from what Dave Perry says - yes there is no comparison the low end of the 15 is much stronger (he's posted a review on Bill's site and Finnbass), but it is a lot less portable, and will cost more. In terms of difficulty I'd say there's not much in it, the wiring for the O15 is a bit trickier because of the crossover, and the O15 will cost a lot more to make, but i can't give an exact price as most of my O10 is being built with 'leftovers'

:brow: Sorry Finn, but if it makes you feel any better I went through your build thread a couple of times - back when i was lurking before I started min Put simply the Omni 15 is the best sounding cab i've ever played through
These things are entirely up to personal taste but if you're looking for punchy and warm have a listen to some SWR. My experience with Ampeg has always been that it's very middly and cuts through well but it's quite harsh sound and in my opinion wouldn't serve funk too well.
Mmmm SWR, that's a very good suggestion, proabably the one thing I'd swap my Eden for. Not as transparent in some ways, but what a tone.

I've built an Omni 15 - there's a build diary on here somewhere. I'm mid O10 build atm (weather keeps getting in the way). The sound of the O15 is simply awesome, really deep and low, yet clear and transparent in the mids, with punchy highs (all courtesy of the crossover). I know Dave Perry sold his O10 nand build an O15 once he had heard one, however it is a more expesive build (£350 ish). It is a very modern sounding cab, if you like a more retro sound I've seen Bill recommend the OmniTop 15. All the BFM stuff is much louder than there commercial counterparts, and weightwise they all seem to be lighter. Despite the fact that my O15 is the size of a 6x10 it is much much lighter (more like a 1x15). I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you go with, be it O15, O10, 2 x O10.5s or an OmniTop15.

I have the time traveller head (which looks like the head unit of that combo) and it sounds awesome. The sound is very transparent, cleanly amplifying your bass without altering the sound, yet punch in the 'bass' button and it's capable of thundering lows. I use mine with a BFM O15 (152, 8" and tweeter with passive crossover) so couldn't comment on the 10" and 15" - but I reckon that'll be a pretty sweet set up.

Alex, any news?
...As for Ampeg not being hifi enough thats a load of bull and the adjective "hifi" used in bass amplification grinds my gears.

The Funk, that wasn't for you, I apologise.
I guess it was meant for me. I'll try to clarify whay I meant by avoiding genric terms like HiFi and Punchy which we can all be guilty of. To clarify, In nearly 20 years of playing I've not once played through an ampeg that I was happy with the tone of. Most of the gigs I do awhere a backline is provided it is an Ampeg (often an SVT model). I wouldn't like to guess the number of times I'd used one, but I'm sure it would be around 3 figures. I find that they colour the sound way too much for my liking, distracting from the tone and sound of the bass itself, I also feel that the tone is a little more muffled and less tansparent than I like, no matter how I play with the EQ (and I've tried many combinations) I've never found something that I'm happy with. I prefer a much more clear and transparent tone that retians the original charecteristics of the bass itself (what I mean by HiFi), I would then usually enhance this in accordance to the style of music and venue. Most of the gigs I do are also funk and Jazz (also the styles Ray metions in his post) which is why I thought I'd comment on what I prefer. I have heard Ampegs used effectivley for Rock and heavier music, often to good effect with passive basses (which I suspect is why most venues have them as a backline, as the majority of live music people go to watch is heavier). Again I wouldn't describe the tone as transparent more gut wrenching and low (sorry trying to avoid saying punchy ) I like that quality, but I feel that fills, and subtelties in the playing get lost, ideal for heavier music. Personally, I don't find it well suited to Jazz/Funk where clarity and subtelty are much more apparent. I feel the same way about all the ashdowns I've tried, although have to confess I've never played the MK sig version. unfortunatley Ashdowns also have a terrible reputation for reliability so I doubt I will ever entertain buying one. Hope that clarifies what I meant
-
I'm not an Ashdown fan either, and mostly play Funk/Jazz, for which I don't like the Ampeg tone. I tend to find it not HiFi enough, but I guess it's all a matter of taste. I've recently started using an Eden which at first I found a little 'sterile' (too HiFi) but after being more agggresive with the EQ have found a tone I'm happy with. I like Trace for the punch, and have found the new Roland range excellent. Dunno if this post is much help really, I guess it boils down to personal taste.
IMHO, unless the there is a real need, or the stage is large and you have great foldback there is no need to put any thing other then vocals though the monitors.
+1 - unless you plsy with one of the keyboard players I often gig with - who deosn't even own an amp! but can afford a new car. grrr!
-
IMHO you're probably too loud, gigs on the toilet circuit are always too loud. When everything is Mic'd you don't need to turn up loud to be heard, your stage volume/mix is unlikely to effect the FOH mix. so turn down, turn the guitars down, do you really need kit coming through the monitors?
