I ruptured a tendon in my finger when I was at music college - that was really reallys sorry, coiudn't play at all, or even move my finger. I had to still go to music college and watch everyone else (and practice my reading). Worst thing was going to a sports injury masseur for it, everyone else was on crutches and with their arms in strings, and there was i to get my finger massaged... worked though

hmmm, I also play in a live hip hop/funk band. For years I've used an old solid state Trace Head with a 15" Bin (or occasionally a 4X10) The Solid Trace gives a really nice tight punchy sound, and the 15 keeps up the bass 'Boom' nicely. Sounds like you were really happy with the Trace, why change? I've just switched to eden (also solid state), and I'm really happy but that's an expensive option. I think you could get an old Trace and something like a Peavey Black Widow second hand for less than £600 easily off of E bay and it would sound fine, and be easily big enough for most venues. For example: 2nd Hand Trace Head Decent Cab and bang less than £250

Arrrgghh, I hate this head and speaker stuff, it really confuses me! I feel like such a fool I just don't get it. As per my previous post I'm looking to get a new rig (probably eden time traveller - 8/4/2 ohms 250/405/620w), but want to do it in stages, as I can;t afford to do it all in one go. Starting with the head and using the cabs I currently have. One of my cabs is a Peavey 115BX BW, although not the most prestigious piece of kit I think that it's fine for the time being. mys question is this: I've been told that the power rating is 350 watts continuous and 700 watts program. What does this mean?? and will it be ok to use with the Eden? Thanks again
-
Hmm, thanks that sounds about right to me too. To my understanding that means if it the only speaker cab connected it should be ok as the amp is 250 watts @ 8 ohms. I think - but I've always been a bit confused with this stuff. Glad you like my avatar, the Hitcher - my favourite Boosh character The Hitcher - The Slap Bass President, it used to be Mark King Always makes me laugh

Sweet - thanks for all the replies - I know what I'm doing next weekend That said I played some Eden gear yesterday, it was lovely...

I'm looking to upgrade my current Rig - probably to Eden stuff. I;m quite keen to do it in stages, starting with the head. THe head I'm looking at is an Eden Time Traveller (Power 8/4/2 ohms 250/405/620w) I currently have an old Trace Elliot 4x10 from the ealry/mid nineties I bought it second hand about 10-12 years ago. Here's my dilema, it's quite old the plate on the back has faded so much that I can't make out the power handling of the amps. Is there any way that I can work this out? Annoyingly even the model numbers etc have faded off completely so I can't even research it in that way. Also am I right in thinking that provided I don't turn up to loud I won't blow the speakers, even if they aren't powerful enough? Thanks

Hi All, Does anyone know where there is a music shop that Stocks Mark Bass equipment in the south east (not inside London) preferably in or near Berkshire? Thanks

Yamahas! Whats the attraction! Am i missing something?
gilmour replied to phsycoandy's topic in Bass Guitars
I am firmly in the Yamaha camp, for years I've wanted something with a little more Kudos but there's just nothing I prefer. You can't beat Yamaha for value for money. I own several basses, some worth more than double what my TRB is worth and it is by far the most played instrument I own. Sounds great, plays well, not the prettiest bass but the look is the least important thing IMHO. On any session I've done the engineer/producer will always prefer the sound of the yamaha. The TRB5PII and TRB6PII are amongst the finest boutique basses that you can buy, play and sound amazing & look nicer than the regular TRB range, but then you are talking serious money I think it's purley down to bass player snobbery. -
Has anyone tried the DR Fatbeams Stainless Steel Roundwound? I play mostly funger funk and soul, I've currently got a set of D'Addario EXL 170's, round wound nickel. They feel great, but (I think it's the fact they are nickel) I find the tone a littel thin and over-Zingy. So I'm considering the above DR Fatbeams - but £37 for a 5 string set - ouch!

that worked thanks

I've found an old stingray copy that I completeley forgot I owner, it's in quite a state - bascially unplayable I decided that to cure GAS perhaps I should re-finish and pimp this bass, make it usable again. Any way I've removed all of the parts, it has a string through bridge. On the underside of the bass are small metal tubes (i don't know what these are called) that the strings pass though. I was gonna post some digital photos but my camera is playing up I have no idea how to remove these - can anyone help? Thanks Rob

lol The bassist in my brothers band prefers Gaffa tape - just seems wrong to me
-
I've just re-read this thread and now I've got serious GAS for a Stingray 5 (although I still prefer the look of the SUB 5). I just haven't got the money
-
I really really like the Jag too. Great range of sounds and nicely playable. i just couldn't live with one because of the positioning of the switces, every time I slapped or strumed i flicked a switch and changed the sound totally, really annoying otherwise I'd have one.

bass compliation CD...what tracks to include?
Bear in mind that the Tascam is a guitar model and not yet a Bass specific, so the effects will be all guitar stuff. It will probably NOT cut out teh correct frequencies for the bass as the CD BT Mk II does either. My advice is if you desperately need to evaluate teh Tascam wait unitl the Bass specific MP3 comes out.... or......
Tascam do make a bass specific one, in fact i'm using it ATM, I don;t know how to post links in here, but there's a thread on it in the amps section (called headphone practice amp) Basically I'm really chuffed with it, top piece of kit, sounds good, the bass can sound a little nasal but it has built in effects and EQ so you can sort that out. It also slows down MP3s without changing the pitch which is v useful. I highly recomend it.

Brad - I remember them - wasn't that with one of the dudes from Pearl Jam? 20th century was there only good track though For my tupence worth it would have to include Iconic bass tracks: School Days - Stanley Clarke Hair - Larry Graham Teen Town - Wether Report Definatley a Chili's track off of BSSM -
mine was that song by the 4 non blondes - i think it was called "what's up" a bit of Pop Trivia for you: The front woman from 4 non blondes is now the songwriter for Pink (I think her name is Linda something) - not the best bit of trivia, needs the blanks filled in lol

Hi All, Jus thtought I'd let you know that this weekend I purchased a Tascam Bass trainer. It's excellent, exactly what I was after, it's chunky when compared with other MP3 players, but they don't allow you to plug a bass in. Sound quality is good, it has a built in tuner and EQ (without the EQ Bass sounds really nasal) it also has a bunch of other effects that i will never ever use (auto wah, distortion, chorus etc). It can function as just a headphone a,p, or you can play along with MP3s. One usefull feature is that you can slow a track down whilst you practice to it. The sound goes a little funny but does allow you to work on those quicker fills that I'd normally just fudge! All in all I'm really pleased with it. I might write a review at some point if I get the time.

Small world - I went to music college with Jamie (he was a drummer back then), haven't seen him for years either! I think you're right I much prefer the new sound of this to the more rocky stuff off of the last album (found some online), it's got a much more toe-tapping feel to it and really suits her voice. Peace'n'Progress Rob
