1. I had GAK match their price recently too. I want to save a bit if cash but I'd also rather buy from somewhere that I trust. This is the best of both.
2.
It's been a while since I thought of Nottingham as a suburb of Warwick ...
Well it's more fun. Probably. And not that far away. Also, eating my lunch took priority over reading properly.
3. First gig of the year supporting Vice Squad in Nottingham on Easter Sunday. Should be fun, I reckon.
4.
I think they ended up inundated with strings and stopped taking them, I had a bunch ready to send when they stopped taking them, it may have changed again but I haven't heard anything in a while
I asked tayste2000 (who acted as their UK contact) a few weeks ago and he said exactly this. To answer the OP, have you tried looking for a local council or charity-run youth music centre? Or a local school's music department, maybe?
5.
Eric Czar would be my nominee. He played bass with Joe Bonamassa in the early days, he now does mostly solo stuff but is great player and worth checking out IMHO.
Yes. Saw him play with Bonamassa twice. He is one of those really great players that makes it look effortless.
6. I would LOVE to see this live! There was a headline on the Kerrang! website with Skiba saying "It feels like home." so maybe it will be more permanent. I think that's what Mark and Travis hoped at the beginning anyway. I'm also a big Blink fan but Tom has always been just awful. I remember watching their Reading footage on the BBC last year (which we all know was a trainwreck) and thinking that he wasn't playing what I was hearing. Then a couple of weeks ago Travis said something along the lines of 'Matt actually plays all the guitar parts, not Pro Tools.' I guess that's how bad/lazy/disinterested he'd gotten.
As much as I know 'Blink 182' did secure a deal for funds to produce another album which hasn't been mentioned to not be happening yet. If Skiba was to play guitar and sing on a new record it'll be the first Blink record I'd be excited for for over a decade.
Apparently they were supposed to start recording in January and Tom put it off, as he'd been doing for months. That was one of the reasons they got rid.
7. Krist Novoselic has a lot more to his playing than people realise. There are some isolated Nirvaba bass tracks knocking about and there are a lot of subtleties in there that you'd never know about.
8. Last time I checked I had 6mm at the 12th fret. I think I'm some kind of heathen.
9.
RE: this show, I've wondered ever since it started - if it's all about the voice, why isn't it on radio?
I guess it's a toss-up between a radio audience of a few hundred thousand or a TV audience of a few million. Tough decision. But yes, after the first round it does effectively become The X-Factor. Let's be honest, we all know it's never been about finding the person with the best voice, but finding which singer is the most popular. Which makes perfect sense. Why would they want to find the best voice when they can find the good-looking, popular singer whose voice may not be as good but who will sell more records and make somebody more money. Sadly the music industry is not one where the cream always rises to the top.
10. Make sure you leave plenty of time on your wedding day? Assuming you're getting married at City Hall(?) you'll have to go to three or four different places to get different stamps and seals etc. from different people to make everything legit. They're all within walking distance from each other but they keep you waiting for a while. The ceremony is short but the other stuff will take up half a day! If your kids are young take them to Toys R Us on Times Square. It's huge and has a Ferris wheel inside! Aside from what others have said I hear the High Line is cool but I haven't actually been yet.
11. They look really nice! Not as bright red as they looked in the pics but I think they look better for it.
12. We get our shirts from http://www.monsterscreenprints.com Awesome Merch have pretty much everything else covered.
13. On top of what else has been said make sure you take two pairs of shoes. If it's pissing it down at load-in you don't want wet feet for the rest of the night and maybe the next day. Also make sure ALL of your gear works before you leave. Even spares.
14. That guy's good! I liked his sound on Paramore cover too. It might just be the glasses and hair but he kinda looks like Joe Bonamassa.
15. I never got to grips with Maxwell Murder by Rancid. Fine up until the solo part then I get lost. As does my patience.
16. Another one for Mark Hoppus. I've always loved his tone. Other favourites for me are Ben Ellis from Serafin, especially on Day By Day. '58 Fender Precision though an old Fender Bassman... http://youtu.be/KQk8c-GYGO8 Also JC from Danko Jones on Legs. Fender Precision Special through an Ampeg V4B with everything on full... http://youtu.be/rvOtTkm0QHQ
17.
My p bass volume is really a mute control
I realised this a long time ago. Now all of my P Basses just have an on/off switch.
18.
1976 Fender Precision Bass, USA Ampeg SVT Classic and Ampeg 8X10 cab. Can't be beat for rock music.
This. Only the Precision was significantly newer. And fitted with Seymour Duncan QPs.
19. I'd never worn rings before and it took me a while to get used to actually wearing one. Played a gig two days after getting married, though, with no issues. Never even noticed it was there. It's never been a problem.
20.
I have made a couple of basses in the past but I had someone else sort out the wiring for me.
Getting someone to help/show you is a good idea. Especially with the wiring for this bass being so simple (you really can't get any simpler than this!) it'd be a great place for you to start.
21. Took Bilbo up on his very kind offer. There really are some brilliant people on Basschat!
22.
The 'hot' wire from the p/up goes to the jack tip. The other wire goes to the jack sleeve (earth...). Repeat for other p/up; job done.
Yes, this. There are no volume or tone controls on Jerry's basses.
23. If you want to do it like Jerry's then just wire them both to the jack. The price depends on what pickups you want, I guess. Jerry's sound is all high mids and almost nothing else. I don't know which pickups will get you near that sound though. Sorry.
24. I'm thinking of hanging a couple of basses on the wall and I was wondering what experience people have had with these? Which hangers are the sturdiest? Which should I avoid? etc. Cheers.
25. I dare say that the Ramones influenced far more bands than U2. And Dee Dee Ramone was a songwriting genius.
