Right, what's the best thing to stick tolex down with? Super glue? Carpet glue? Something special? This is what I need to stick...

Last week (Friday, I think) I made an order for a Fender Super Bassman. The website said something along the lines of 'Order before 5pm for next day shipping on Wednesday'. Seeing as I was off work on Wednesday this was perfect. I placed the order late on Friday night and got a call the next morning saying that with the bank holiday and whatnot they wouldn't be able to check stock until Tuesday. Not a big problem, as I'm not really in any rush, although the website did make it look like it was already in stock. Anyway, Tuesday came around and I got a call saying they had no stock. According to Fender Europe there were 3 coming into the UK at around the beginning of July. Since I'm on tour at the end of June I didn't want to wait that so I cancelled the order. Next step was to check the GAK website. Have them a call and they had stock and would ship it for the next day. They even matched the (slightly) cheaper price of the original order. Brilliant! It arrived yesterday morning just before I went out for the day. I got back in the evening and unpacked the amp. The amp was inside a plastic bag inside the box. When I took it out of the bag I noticed a piece of plastic inside. On closer inspection it was the knob for the DI level on the back. It isn't broken but it doesn't fit snugly on it's pole. It's very loose and falls off very easily. I also noticed that the tolex on the top was peeling off all the way along one edge. Around an inch all the way along. I called GAK and they said they'd try to get it replaced but I needed to speak to the person I placed the order with over the phone who had left for the day. The guy I spoke to said he'd leave him a message to call me after 12pm today. At about 2:30 I got bored and called them. The guy I needed to speak to had already left for the day and apparently hadn't read the message he was left yesterday. I spoke to the same person I spoke to last night. As GAK had no more in stock he called Fender who again confirmed that there were no more coming into the UK for around 6 weeks. Now I'm looking at possibly keeping the amp and getting some kind of damage discount but I can't do anything until I speak to the right person tomorrow. I didn't know buying an amp was so complicated!
Yep, I recorded with one of these using my trusty 78 Precision and as JT says, all you need. Just wish I could carry the darn things (and that`s just the heads, even looking at the cabs makes my back ache).
At the minute I'm using a P with an Ashdown 6x10 so hopefully it'll be bang on the money. It's around 10kg lighter than my old Ampeg SVT-CL so I don't think carrying it will be a huge issue. The Ampeg was flightcased too! Although it will be a little bit heavier than the OTB500 that I'm currently used to!

Finally pulled the trigger on a Fender Super Bassman a couple of days ago. Hopefully it'll be here sometime this week and I'll get to give it a run at rehearsal next weekend. REALLY looking forward to trying it out! Was a bit surprised that it seems to be the only Fender amp that Roqsolid don't offer a cover for but I guess I can get one made.

Good job! Playing with other people is definitely one of the best ways to learn. Keep it up and every time you'll get better and better and build more and more confidence. You'll be surprised how fast the nerves disappear and it just becomes the norm.

Chelsea Guitars is good for vintage stuff. Plus you won't believe how much they fit into that place. It's TINY!
Not got the 300, I use the 100T - brilliant amps and not nearly as back breaking as my old Ampegs !
What's the 100T like, volume-wise? I'm interested in one of these Bassmans and the 100w version is lighter than the 300w, which is a big plus. Just a bit concerned about the volume.
The proper website for them is http://fuzzguitars.co.uk btw, the link up there is somewhere in Korea (I think).
Ha! I had no idea, I just got it off their Facebook page. Sorry! -

Try Fuzz too, they might have one in there http://www.fuzzguitarboutique.com/ -
Cheers for the advice. I'm glad you're all on the same page. I've bought on here before, there just anything right that's within my budget right now. I'm always looking though. Cheers.
Whats their feedback like?
One negative feedback out of 95 saying that the description and item were different things. It's not really filling me with confidence, that's why I asked for more info and pics.

I'm currently watching two white Fender P Basses on eBay and they seem a bit... Odd. They're both from the same seller, ending four days apart. Both have no pics, apart from the same stock photo, and both have next to no info, although one has a bit more than the other. There are no bids on either of them. One is £350 with free shipping and one is £342 plus £20 shipping. I emailed the seller a couple of days ago asking for more info but no reply as of yet. Does this seem a bit dodgy to anyone else?
So do you think it's been messed about with after? Or recorded that way with effects on the night?
My first though was that the vocals were re-recorded or played with after recording. It may very well have been done that way on the night, I'm just very cynical and sceptical of anything I see on the internet. It's all a work, brother.
It certainly sounds nice but don't be fooled - a lot of processing has taken place. It's clearly quite strongly compressed and the lead vocals have been obviously (and to my ears, unmusically) autotuned. Quite unnatural sounding, particularly the higher parts.
Glad I'm not the only one that thought this sounded a bit too good for a straight-up live recording.

I think Krist Novoselic is massively underrated. He may not be the most technical player in the world but listen to any Nirvana stuff and there are a lot more subtleties in his playing than you realise. Especially apparent if you can get hold of some multi-track stuff.

Should the bass player be on the left...looking at the band?
Seriously, the only consideration for us is that we have two guitarists, so we make sure one goes each side of the kit. I couldn't give a monkeys which side I'm on really. We do always seem to set up the same way at the same venues though.
Exactly this. I think it was once 'traditional' for the bass to be to the drummer's left although I don't see why it should make the slightest bit of difference to how anyone plays.
It doesn't matter where you stand. However you should always be facing forward looking at the audience. They are the reason why you are on stage in the first place.
Also this. -
Anyone see the Super Bowl halftime show last night?
joeystrange replied to sam-davies's topic in General Discussion
I thought Bruno Mars was brilliant! I like all of his singles but this was the first time I've seen any live stuff. Chili Peppers were just Chili Peppers. Same thing they've been doing for 30 years. Nothing special but at least they're not old, fat and boring yet. Still very entertaining. -
Cheers chaps. I reckon I'll try a set out and see how they go.
-
Anyone used them? Good? Bad? Ugly? I'm thinking of trying them out. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of them.

Not necessarily cheap but Sims are very good. http://www.simscustom.com/

I've always used .88mm tortex ones. If I were you I'd go to your local music shop and buy a few different picks and see what you find most comfortable before you go and order a bunch. There's no 'too thick' or 'too thin' for bass. Whatever you feel most comfortable with is the best.

I just bought an Ashdown CL-610 from a guy on here. Used it for the first time at rehearsal on Sunday and it sounds great! Fairly light too, which is a bonus.

Hmmm... The Arctic ones don't look as white as I want either. What the hell do I want?!
-
Cheers for that. That's one nice looking bass! I'm getting confused now though... The Squier VM is Olympic White and it's a brilliant white. Both Olympic and Arctic White on Fenders look slightly off-white, which I think Arctic is supposed to be. Is it just my eyes?
