1. Yep. That's exactly what was in my '08 MIM.
2. Check out the Orange Terror Bass if you can. They get pretty dirty and have a TON of bottom end. Plus they're really small and really light.
3. What's the problem? It sounds exactly like all of the slap bass videos.

5. I've found that Ampeg gear is easy to buy online but rare to see in shops.
6.
When they play live they're a five piece, with a second guitarist so Billy Joe can interact with the crowd more, plus a keyboard player (you only see his head above the stack of cabs).
When I saw them on the American Idiot tour there were nine people on stage for a few songs! The three of them in the band, the second guitarist, another guitarist, two brass players, the keyboard guy and a percussionist! Without a doubt, one of the best live bands around at the minute.
7.
I have always played a Fender Precision. I have never had the inclination to play with anything else. The P Bass does everything I want it to do, and what it cant do I have no interest in. I did have a bit of a flirt with a Stingray, didnt like it and got shot of it!!
This. Only Thunderbird instead of Stingray.
8. Dookie is 20 years old next year!
9.
Unlikely scenario, but say we had a gig at The Rescue Rooms, with us supporting you. I would probably contact your band via Facebook to ask if it's ok if we use your guitar and bass amps. Would you flat out refuse?
I think the OP was referring to everything, bass and rig. Which is why I said no. I'll welcome anyone to play through my cab anytime as sharing makes everything easier for everyone. I would ask you to bring a head though if possible, but if you couldn't then I wouldn't leave you without an amp at the gig.
10. If it's somebody that I know and trust then I don't mind. Otherwise, no.
11. If that's what he played at Reading last night it sounded incredible!
12. I've seen homemade ones made from cardboard and covered in gaffer tape before. Costs nothing and it'll do as much as a non-padded cover. Maybe even a bit more. Only thing is they're not so easy to hide when you take them off.
13. ... Not a verb. New Toronto Metrolink ad.
14.
6 albums, I think!
Cool, I'll check them out. Gradually!
15. That's great! How much stuff do they have?
16. The Mark Hoppus Jazz has a Jazz body with a Precision neck but it has a P pickup.
17.
It'll be well over £1000 over here...
I'm told the list price from Ampeg will be £1294 and they're hoping to have them by October.
18. People who wear their straps with the adjustable part at the front. Heads and cabs that don't match. Coffee table basses. Matching headstocks.
19. I'd definitely be keeping the 8x10. Our guitarists both have 100W valve heads with Marshall 4x12s and our drummer is pretty loud. That said I never run the volume past 3 on the CL and that's more than loud enough. The main problem is finding one that I can try out first.
20. The new Ampeg V-4B looks pretty good to me. If it sounds close enough to the SVT-CL (which I love) then, at half the weight, I might be tempted to get one. There are a couple of things I'm wondering though... Is 100W of tube power enough to gig with? And does anyone know of any shop that actually stocks Ampeg so I could try it out? Cheers.
21.
Is the V4B out yet then?
End of August, apparently. If it can get a similar sound to the SVT-CL I might have to get one.
22. JD & the FDCs - Rock.
23. You're not being too picky. There's no point being in a band you don't like just for the sake of being in a band. Afterall, the main reason we all do this is because we enjoy it.
24. Hugh McDonald is the same in Bon Jovi. He's been there since '94 and never been in promo photos, press etc.
25.
IMO the main constructional issue for rehearsal rooms is not noise leaking to the outside, but sound leakage from one room to the others. Your partition walls between the rooms need to be of the same standard as the outside walls, which means brick or some other heavy duty construction and preferably with a sizeable air-gap between each room.
This. I've rehearsed at a place that was pretty much as you described your idea - an open space with three rooms built inside using timber frames and doubled-skinned plasterboard walls with rockwool in between. There were two rooms that shared a wall and another which had its nearest point around 10 feet from the other two. On the inside they sounded OK (though they weren't very well treated) but even from the separate room you could still hear the bands in the other two rooms quite clearly when you stopped playing.
