  1. @dmccombe7 I’m considering getting the GLXD16+ in the near future. Just wondered if you had anything to add to your initial comments after a couple of months of use?
  2. Haven’t seen their IOW set but I saw them on their UK tour last year when Glen had only just joined and I thought he was great! A very underrated player imo. Debby’s voice wasn’t terrible on that tour. Sure, it’s not what it once was but, as pointed out, she’s well into her 70s now. Side note, my friend Andee joined Blondie on guitar a couple of years ago (he’s the left-handed one) and he’s easily one of the best guitarists I’ve ever seen. Insanely talented and creative. The time before I saw him on the Blondie tour was at a bar in Lower Manhattan where he was deppping for a band playing Blondie covers (and others). Strange how things work out.
  3. I’m self-taught. Never had a single lesson and then at some point along the journey I figured it was probably too late to start. I’m just inside the internet generation but pre guitar lessons on YouTube so I learnt largely using MX Tabs - both their tab library and forums. Never been concerned about bad habits or technique. As far as I’m concerned if it works, it works. I notice that sometimes my little finger is curled (imagine the position it’d be in if you were making a fist) behind the neck. Thought it was weird until I noticed Tony Franklin doing it and decided that if it’s good enough for him then it’s certainly good enough for me.
  4. I ALWAYS take two basses. In an old band I took three at one point as we had a few songs in a different tuning and it was much quicker to switch guitars. I’ve needed to use a spare a bunch of times for various reasons but even if I hadn’t I’d still take one. As said above restringing on stage and more so the dreaded “has anybody got a bass I can borrow?” call out to the other bands on the bill looks incredibly unprofessional.
  5. They were playing a festival for people who don’t like music. What was he expecting?!
  6. I don’t but in my old band our guitarist had two Fret King Esprits named (by the band) Whyte and MacKay - after his favourite tipple. Whyte was, of course, the black one.
  7. Of course the best sound is entirely subjective. I love seeing a punk rock band in a basement dive bar with amps so loud that I can’t hear anything as much as I love the crystal clear sound of my IEM mix.
  8. I once stayed in their singer’s apartment for a week whilst doing some shows in Germany with his old band. I would very much like them to win! I believe this is a thing they’ve been asked to do - cover another (past or present) Eurovision artist. The UK entry covered Abba’s SOS.
  9. I still do use 50-110 strings and tune to E. I play with a pick and am rather heavy-handed so it works for me. I’ve tried using lighter strings and I just can’t get on with them. In fact, for a good while (until they were discontinued) I was using the Dean Markley Nikki Sixx strings, which were 50-110. I believe he’s recently switched from Gibson to Schecter basses so maybe the heavier gauge suits the Schecters more?
  10. I thought there was a string tension chart on the Newtone website but if there was it now seems to be gone. However if you contact them and tell them your specifications I’m sure they’ll be able to make you a custom set that will be perfect.
  11. I’ll tend to learn the bass part first, to the point where I’m comfortable enough that I don’t have to think about playing it, then I have the brain capacity to think about the vocals. Then after a little while I can do both without thinking.
  12. Recently bought a wireless unit from Paddy. An all-round pleasure to deal with. 10/10
  13. I forgot how much I love Electric Six!
  14. Genuinely the best piece of gear I’ve ever bought.
  15. I’ve been using Couch seatbelt straps for over a decade now. They’re vegan and make from recycled seatbelts with the tabs made from recycled car seat vinyl. My only issue is that a few years ago they started cutting them a bit shorter so if I order one now I have to do it as a custom order and have it made longer. Only adds around $12 iirc. For straplocks I have Schallers on everything. I have previously had issues with the nut on strap part coming loose but I started putting a bit of Loctite on there and then tightening with players. Safe as houses, as they say.
  16. I was also going to recommend watching all of this. As well as Tina’s fantastic playing it’s also a really well done live show.
  17. Not me but our singer, guitarist and old bass player are.
  18. No, he just decided to take a year off, from last summer.
  19. SV & the Eruptions
  20. I’ll be there. Playing at some point. Mostly looking forward to seeing Descendents, The Damned, Republica, Bad Brains and Bob Vylan.
  21. That means it’s one louder.
  22. Short list for me… Black 35 Epiphone Fender Squier Vox
  23. If you’re going to be taking a DI out from the pre-amp then put that last in the chain otherwise any effects that you put after it won’t be included in the DI signal.
