I got a VM P Bass a couple of years ago and it's an incredible bass! It may not be the best made bass in the world (actually the build quality is surprisingly good) but it sounds fantastic and for less than £200 brand new you can't really go wrong!

Dick Venom & The Terrortones - StickyPants Trance the video
Thanks! Yes we did. As Mr Venom says - it's the only place in Nottingham that is more sleazy than he is! BTW welcome to Basschat! There's plenty of other people from Nottingham here but few of them seem to be in bands I've heard of, so it's nice to see someone here who's band I know.
He's got a point! My old band did our album launch there a few years ago. I'd be willing to bet it was a much more laid back affair than yours! And thanks, I've been here for a little while, just not posted all that much. Hopefully catch you at a gig soon! -

I had no idea you'd done this video until now! It looks great! Did you shoot the band stuff at Tantra? -
I've always thought Krist Novoselic is really underrated. There are a lot of subtleties in his playing that you don't even hear until you hear solo'd bass tracks.

Here's the new eBay listing with the dropped price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vox-3002-Custom-Bass-RARE-/130656481970?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1e6bbbb2b2#ht_8129wt_1270 Though I'd still be interesting in selling privately. It's strange, I've never seen another of these in person and only ever seen one Standard in the flesh but since deciding to sell I've come across a fair few people that have them both. Maybe it's that old thing where you don't notice something until you're consciously aware of it?

Hey guys, I am selling a Vox Custom 3002 Bass with original wooden hard case. I'm looking at £450 for both. I've had this bass for 11 years and have barely touched it in the last 9 or 10 so I decided it should go to a good home where it will actually get some use. I thought I'd post it on here to see if there was any interest before I put it on the Bay. I'm not sure of the year of manufacture but as far as I know these were only made between 1982 and 1984 at Aria's Matsumoku factory and, as a consequence, are pretty rare. Everything on the bass is original apart from the nut. They came with a brass nut but (from what I've read and as was the case with mine) the top edge of the nut had a tendency to wear down over time and the E-string would pop out if you hit it too hard. I had the brass nut changed for a graphite one not long after I got it. Spec: 34" scale. 24 frets. Through-neck. DiMarzio pickups. Volume and single tone control. 3-way pickup selector. Mode switch for series/parallel or coil tap. Deluxe bridge and tailpiece assembly. String-through body. From the little info I could find, I found out that Billy Sheehan played one for a short time whilst he was playing with UFO.

I have one of those. I just swapped out the pots for an on/off switch and left it at that. IMO it sounds and plays awesome! Since I've had it I've played it way more than both of my Fenders.

I'd have Kelson Mathias' tone from when he was in Future Of The Left. Really love it!
One band I'm in tunes down to C, and I'm using my Ric, strung with DR DDT's 110 set. Great strings, didn't need the truss rods tweaked or anything, and no floppiness
That's cool to know. I just checked their site though and it looks like they do a 105 set and a 115 set but no 110 set? Not that I can see anyway.
having the action set on the bass for playing in drop C will help
I figured it'd be better to do that after getting strings.

Thanks for that. I've actually used Newtone before. They're based about 15 minutes from my house and a friend of mine used to work for them. I'll get in touch and see what they suggest. Although last time I used their strings I broke one on the first gig. Maybe it was just a bad string?

I'm going to be tuning C-G-C-F for a new project and I'd like some advice on strings. I usually use 45-65-85-105 to tune to E and if I tune these down to C they're not too bad apart from the bottom C, which is really loose. If anyone has experience with this tuning could I get away with 50-110 or would 55-115 be better? or something else entirely? I don't want to go too heavy but don't want the strings to be too loose either. Other people have suggested getting a 5-string set and throwing away the G but I don't know if they might be too heavy to feel comfortable. If it makes any different I'm using a standard Fender Precision. Thanks
It's a copy with a Fender decal fitted - naughty.
That's certainly the way I'm leaning at the minute.
Original or otherwise, I make it a rule never to buy a vintage bass that's been in contact with the sellers underwear PS if I had a pound for every bloke who tries to sell a 'vintage Fender' on eBay, apparently knowing nothing about guitars, and having bought it from a 'bloke' who 'said' it was genuine and who the seller is now 'trying to track down' (planned subtext for the Paypal claim, "OK, I've been rumbled but really, I'm just the innocent victim here"), I'd be able to buy a real '70s Precision.... C
That's what I was thinking, I was just hoping someone that knows a bit more than me would be able to explain a bit more on the bass and why it may or may not be genuine.

Hi, I'm new here! I play the bass. Joey x

I posted this on another forum and was directed here and told some people on here are quite knowledgeable about old Fenders. Anyway, here is the bass in question. As you can see the guy was told it was a 70s Fender but has no proof and can't find a serial number anywhere. Someone pointed out to me that the tuners don't look quite right (a bit too short) and the truss adjust at the base of the neck isn't typical Fender. Aside from that they said the logo is from '76 in which case the serial should be on the neck plate but apparently isn't. The only thing I can say about it is that it looks old. Do you think it's genuine, a good copy or something else entirely? If you could shed any more light on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
