Recently bought a bass with a high mass bridge, the problem is I’m struggling to intonate it and to lower the action. To get the intonation (almost) right I had to cut down the saddle length screws and springs to get them to come back enough and I get set the action lower as if I loosen the saddle grub screws any further they just come loose. I’ve been looking for others but it also has a string thru config and they seem quite rare. Does anyone know if any good ones exist?

I’m actually not sure. The band already exists but as a 2-piece who want to add a bass player. So I think she’ll be able to write her own lines but will also follow the guitar in parts. I’ll suggest BEAD to her but she almost always plays in drop-D so B F# B E will make more sense to her. Thanks for the suggestion though, I will definitely pass it on.

Mrs. Strange has just been asked to join a new band after a few years of not playing. The new band plays in drop B. Given that she only has 4-string basses, has anyone tuned B F# B E on a 4-string, and what strings would you recommend? Ta

Black. But if I were choosing between these two then the red wins it by a mile for me.

Mark Hoppus/Twitch and Rick Beato/WMTSG #110

I’ve never heard this before. As far as I knew they played everything in E. On the untitled album the guitars are tuned down (sometimes to C or C#) but I believe the bass is still in standard tuning. -

His hair fell out when he had chemotherapy and then grew back white. He was baffled too as he didn’t have any grey hair before. Apparently it isn’t uncommon for that to happen. I think Mark is a better player than he gets credit for. He does a lot of interesting (for the genre, at least) things with chords to fill out the sound of a 1-guitar band. A lot of the time you don’t notice what he’s really doing. I enjoy his playalongs for that reason, you get to see what he actually does. -

There’s Pitchshifter and Six By Seven. More recently there’s also Jake Bugg and Sleaford Mods. Also Bruce Dickinson is from north Notts. Plus Consumed who were on Fat Wreck Chords in the ‘90s.

How do I find out value/rarity of old vinyl?

You’re welcome. As BigRedX says, be careful if you’re selling on there. But if nothing else it’s useful to find a relatively accurate value if you want to sell elsewhere. -

I think the best way would be to sign up to Discogs and add them all to your collection by scanning the bar codes. Then for each one you’ll see the cheapest sale, most expensive sale and average sale price. That should give you a decent indication of what’s what. -
I have not.

I think this would be a no-brainer for Fender too but it seems like they’re more set on continuing to put out almost identical versions of the same basses but with a different prefix/suffix. And signature models. For years I played Precisions that I had swapped out with Jazz necks and really liked them. Then I got a new P and loved the neck so I left it. Now I struggle to play a Jazz-type neck. My preference is a wide nut with a shallow neck, as opposed to a fat, chunky neck, but either is fine.

This. I also have a Fender Neo 610 that has so much more than the 210, 410 and 212 that I have or have had recently. If I could find one (and had the cash) I’d have the Fender 810 in a heartbeat.

Kimberley had that same taste when they first took over (which is why a lot of people on Kimberley stopped drinking it) so it sounds like this could be the original recipe.
-
Now when we’re taking ‘Kimberley recipe’ are we talking the original recipe or what Greene King sold as Kimberley when they first took over and changed the recipe, hoping nobody would notice?
-
Didn’t realise this was the Kimberley recipe. Being born and raised there I feel it’s my birthright to drink many pints of this.

I remove them and throw them in the bin.

Don’t forget minimum wage, zero hour contracts and employees p*ssing in bottles to meet targets and not get fired.

JUST had enough on a full tank to get from Nottingham to Bristol, then Brighton and then back to Nottingham. May be a struggle to get to Skegness for the gig on Friday though. I’m hoping it will be a bit better by then.

I love Jennifer Finch’s Misfits bass that she used in L7. Also Melissa auf der Maur’s silver metal flake Precision which inspired my wife to get a similar one in red. Which also looks great!

Sold a pedal to Mike. Everything was really smooth, great communication, quick payment. A pleasure to do business with.
