Last time I bought a set of QPs was about three years ago and they have ‘Seymour Duncan’ on them. As do the set I bought in 2015.
I don’t know if this helps?
A friend of mine is a big fan of The Mission and told me that they also play as a Mission tribute band, which I forget the name of. Apparently The Mission sometimes support themselves playing as their own tribute band.
Green Day / The Network
Reuben sometimes played ‘secret’ shows as Los Skeletos but it was usually them playing new Reuben songs so I don’t know if it counts.
The Alarm once released a single under the name The Poppy Fields, and had a young band playing the song in the video, to prove a point to the music industry.
Alicia Vigil (current Dragonforce bass player) was recently in an episode Paradise City on Amazon Prime.
Jeff Walker (and Bill Steer) from Carcass appeared alongside Lister in his childhood band Smeg and the Heads in Red Dwarf.
I’d guess it may be to do with the cost of getting the rights.
I noticed a while ago that commercial stations don’t often play an artist’s biggest hits. For example Gem, our local commercial station in Notts, will regularly play Man In The Mirror (which peaked at 21 on release) but rarely play Billie Jean or Beat It, for example.
I can only guess that the rights for Man In The Mirror are cheaper than the big hits. Though I may be completely wrong.
Mike Dirnt has always played tasteful, melodic bass parts without getting into full Matt Freeman territory.
I also love Karl Alvarez’s playing on pretty much everything he does. I love how the guitar and bass change as to which is the lead instrument throughout songs.
Saw HIM on their farewell tour in 2017. We’ll I actually went to see Biters who were the support but we thought we’d stay for HIM. To say it was their last ever tour you’d think that they’d put some effort in. However they just seemed like none of them could really be arsed to be there and on top of that the singer was AWFUL. Out of key, out of time, probably p!ssed. We left half way through the set.
The other one was Black Sabbath when they headlined Download on their final tour in 2016. It was hammering down and fairly chilly by the time they came on. They were so incredibly boring that I left after about 8 songs.
Similarly to you, I think I’ve met almost all of my friends (and my wife) through music and most of my most important experiences are somehow music-related.
My life would not be the same without it. Not even nearly.
