Intonation - why are strings different lengths

Is it because the headstock would look daft if the strings were all the same length. -

I decided to sell my custom made Letts bass because i hadn't played it for ages, been using a E series Jazz that i love. Plugged the Letts in to test it out and absolutely blown away with how great it sounded and it also played lovely! Decided within about 2 minutes that It is definitely staying with me. It is light, perfectly balanced and as a range of tones that are all usable, feels like it was made for me (which obviously it was lol). I cant for the life of me remember why i stopped playing it! Very bizarre. Any one else had this experience? Cheers Pete

Hi all, Bit of a project bass i put together a while ago. The bass weighs in at 8lb and is 40mm at the nut. I bought a wiring loom of our very own Kiogon and sourced a bill lawrence P-46 pickup from the USA link here - [url="http://www.wildepickups.com/Bass_Pickups.html"]http://www.wildepick...ss_Pickups.html[/url] The body was bought off here and has a couple of scuffs as can be seen in the pics. The neck is really nice but unfortunately i do not know who made it or if it is off a previous bass. It is currently strung with [color=#333333]GHS Strings 3050 Flatwound Stainless Steel Precision Long Scale Plus Bass 55-105 which with the wiring loom and pickup (It was made with a jamerson sound in mind) sounds great. [/color] [color=#333333]The foam will be removed, didnt realize it was there until i looked at the pics![/color] [color=#333333]It now has normal strap locks on not the black ones shown in the pics.[/color] [color=#333333]The tuners were off a squier jaguar if i remember correctly.[/color] [color=#333333]I would like [s]£225 [/s]£200 for it, I would consider a swap / part ex for a five string. I cannot see any embedded videos on bass chat either. I use chrome and all other sites are fine. Started about a week ago.
