Band intros. And on bass... "The Fat Bloke"...
Scoop replied to thepurpleblob's topic in Theory and Technique
The last time I was introduced and "expected" to do a wee solo (coz everyone else had) I simply did a big "WArrrrrrooooommmm" slide up and down my E string and said, loud enough for the band and the closest audience members to hear "Now f*ck off you sadistic c**ts." As I remained the only person on stage not reduced to gibbering giggles I clearly remained the coolest looking dude on stage. Simple. -
Great basses these and a great price. I had one with only the p pickup, nice slim neck, yes warwicks can have slim necks. If your in the market for a bass of this price really you should check it out.
Yup, ultra slim in fact. You heard the man, check it out! PS Steve, I'm the one who has your old Warmoth Darkstar / Audere SG now. Lovely bass. (See the porn entry from earlier this week)

Nordstrand Big Singles - 5 string, 19mm set. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I bought these in this thread, here... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8526 ...almost exactly a year ago and have never fitted them because, when I reflected upon it, I loved the sound of my Roscoe so much I didn't want to naff about with it. Almost new therefore and in very good condition. Huge bargain at £70 inc p&p.

Is now sold.... A 12 string. Big and heavy. Takes months to restring and you're pensionable age by the time you've tuned it. It's trans black, it's made of Ash; it has a maple neck with a pao ferro board, EMG-hz pups, active three band preamp and a hard case. It also has 12 strings. Except it doesn't, it has 32 strings - the 12 on it, a full spare set of 12 brand new SITs and an additional spare set of the 8 octave strings, again brand new SITs. The strings are £275 and I'll throw in the bass for free. Collection (Liverpool) preferred but not essential; no trades thanks, I'm cutting down.

Following much ACGness I've decided to be rid of a few of my basses. This has: Mahogany body with a bubinga top, EMG-hz pups with an 18v EMG pre amp. But it's sadly lacking in frets, hence reason for sale, as I just don't get on with the fretlessness of it. I need those strips of metal, I'm afraid. Fitted with a maple laminate thru neck. List price currently $969 ( http://www.schecterguitars.com/index.asp - you'll find that in here somewhere). Bargain at £295ono and collection preferred. I'm based in Liverpool. This bass comes with a case that serves it's purpose but won't win any fashion awards. EDIT: NOW £265!

Time to get rid of a few basses after the arrival of my new ACG and the imminent arrival of another ACG five string. Warwick Fortress One. Made 1996. Maple body, wenge neck (not ovangkol) , MEC P & J pups, active two band EQ with a push pull on one of the pots that... (Scoop waves hands in air vaguely) that... does stuff. It's been a trusty servant for many years and probably my main gigging bass since the Great Gibson Grabber Catastrophy of '99. It's not in the greatest cosmetic condition, but frankly that doesn't matter on a working bass like this. On a Fender it's called mojo on a Warwick it's called looks a bit shagged out. It's a real workhorse bass, unburstable, solid as a rock and never lets you down. I'm selling a few basses this week, hopefully, and I suspect I'm going to miss this one the most. Great bass and uber comfy to play. Including a shagged out but serviceable hardcase. Oh by the way: It's not a Rockbass, it's a proper Warwick which, according to the tuners was made in WEST Germany. I suspect they'd had them in the stores for a while. Collection preferred (based in Liverpool). £325ono (no trades thanks)

Having posted these elsewhere, Krazykiwi will now do the conjouring trick and....

I nipped up to Bassday yesterday and collected the finished bass from Alan and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. It's stunning. I'll just let you ogle at the pictures, and I'll get a fuller report up when I've spent a little more time with it.
(the SKB is not offered as a '4) .. !!
Just to clarify, as a Roscoe owner and utter fanboy, that statement is wrong. The SKB is available as a four string and always has been but, as Roscoe build to order and very few SKB3000's (4 string model name) have been ordered they are thin on the ground. Two have been built this year (2008) and they are the first SKB3000s since at least 2005. Identical spec LG3000 and SKB3000 are also identical in price, there is no uplift for the SKB shape in Roscoe's pricing structure. The new owner of this has got a "fabulous" instrument. Good luck to him/her.
Hi guys, I'm considering selling my Warmoth Jazz Bass neck, intended for a project bass that never came together. The neck has never been used, is in immaculate condition and is a real looker featuring perloid blocks and binding! Here is a link to the neck from the Wamoth store: http://www.warmoth.com/catalog/product_inf...oducts_id=40282 Specs are as follows: Maple/Maple 1-1/2 in. Nut Width Standard Thin Contour Straight 10" Radius Block Inlays + Binding Drilled For BML Tunners Warmoth Pro Construction With Double-Expanding Truss Rod I paid £320 in total for the neck, including import tax shipping etc. Would be looking for around £280 ono. Pics to follow, let me know if there is any interest. Thanks!
I've got a Warmoth SG bass and am "toying" with the idea of a jazz build. So far all I've bought is a Gotoh bridge! It's a start! This would suit, however. What fretwire guage and, more importantly, which finish to the neck did you spec on this one?

Well, it's coming along at a good rate now. Almost all of the woodworking is completed and it just needs its lacquer coats, hardware and electrics. The woods have been wiped with white spirit here to give an impression of what it will look like when lacquered.
Hi all, thanks for all your warm comments. Yes, these basses really are timeless beauties, and, no, I can't consider trading this one for anything since I need the money to buy wombator's beautiful MIDI WAL MK II. If I could, I'd never even thought of selling this one. I reckonyou all know the GAS attacks, but you also have to act in a sensible way not to go bankrupt because of musical instruments ...BTW - I posted that one also on the walbassesnaturally forum. Seems as if the administration did a fine job in recovering my posting abilities. Cheers & best regards Oliver
I'm a little confused. The headstock transfers alter from pic to pic. Most pics have WAL on the headstock yet one pic has a transfer which reads "Wal Custom Bass" - have you used a stock pic here, you cheeky little monkey, you?
so I've decided on a greenburst similar to this
Green is cool. I have a Roscoe SKB3005 5 string which (until I get my 4 string ACG recurve) is the bass I turn to first currently out of the ten instruments I own. Like I say. Green is cool.

More work completed... neck and fretboard are now glued up. And the body and neck in situ (the headstock needs lots more work so the neck's not fixed in place yet). This is just to get an idea of what it'll look like when completed. I think it's fair to say that I'm officially enthused.
Really happy you like it Dave hope it give your ACG a run its money
I got a short notice call (four hours) to do a depping gig with a rock covers band tonight - playing a biker's rally - so took it along together with my KSD jazz. I used the KSD for most of the night as I'm familiar with it and I've used this bass for deps with this band before (so it knows the songs ) but I used the Warmoth for a couple of numbers. Big sound. Nice bass. Very nice indeed.
