not with mine, but my ex girlfriends brother had a gibson thunderbird and i had a quick razz on it (no amp) and it was so chunky and horrible, think the strings were about 3 years old on it though!

sweet, cheers!

i Have an ibanez SR506 i love it to bits but the bridge is a real pain the screws in the saddle are f***ed and the saddles are nasty in themselves. i think it would be easier to just get a better bridge in and give the bass the tlc it deserves from me. any ideas my price range is up to around £120 but id rather pay less obviously. something with adjustable spacing would be nice but not essential.

buy an SR506 i got mine for 280 second hand and its beautiful. works magic on the ladies! i just hate having to explain to them i dont play guitar i play bass. they turn away and walk out after they find out

Non standard tuning a 5 string
paulwillson replied to SuicideVeilBassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
HI guys Hope I'm putting this in the right place. I have a Peavey Cirrus BXP 5 string. Its tone is fantastic and it is very playable. The problem is that my band play in drop c# and I didn't want an extra low string, so I retuned to get an extra high. Of course, this actually meant tuning UP not down....the bass started developing dead spots on the higher frets. The shop I purchased it from had a look at it and advised me to return it to standard tuning and keep the low B and drop the other strings to our tuning (B, C#, G#, C#, F#). Can the bass actually be set up to handle the tuning as I want it? Or do I need to look at another bass designed to be played with heavier tunings? Jay
my 6 string handles two extra highs in drop B so yours should be fine. what gauge strings are you using? -
Up for grabs is a newish - 1 year old - H&K 7-string fretted bass. Supplied with new strings (Rotosound). Plays very well - really great neck. Body has a scuff mark on it - it arrived that way but is readily buffed out. Would make a great instrument to see if the 7-string thing is for you. I'm selling as the 7-string thing isn't really for me - 4, 5 or 6 is enough already ! If you live near Newport South Wales you'd be more than welcome to come try her out. Looking for £275 for her plus shipping - cost £475 new - so a bit of a bargain I would say. any videos/audio? really tempted. what scale is it and does that bridge have adjustable spacing facilities? No trades please !
paulwillson replied to theosd's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I dunno it's just the name of the bass. They do a stiletto custom and a stiletto studio. Here's their website with the specs: http://www.schecterguitars.com/Products/Ba...o-Custom-5.aspx
its a gimmick then XD i think ill probably be sticking with by 6 string 'nez. good luck with the sale, you never know i might be back if it hasnt gone -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o3cnfKiEe4 a vid of a feedback looper and dirt box. Nothing special but I like the way has a 'cock wah' type tone in places. Adds a synth like edge to the tone at time. All tones in the vid are done with adjusting the vol control on a p bass and the feedback pedal volume.
sounds bloody horrible in a good way. i wont be using it much as a bass tone as such just for fx without playing notes if you catch my drift

paulwillson replied to theosd's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Well if you're interested I'd take £275 posted within the UK via Basschat.co.uk, otherwise take your chances with a bid as I've relisted as an auction Clicky.
ive had an offer on my 6 so if i decide to sell it by the end of the week ill definatly grab this but to be honest its doubtful i will decide to go from 6 to 5. id like to but i dont know :/ can you give me a full spec? what is custom about it? just the finish? -
D'addario Bass Strings - Long Scale - How Long ?
paulwillson replied to Soliloquy's topic in Accessories and Misc
Since my Overwater strings still haven't arrived after a week. I'm going to order some more, this time from Stringsdirect. I usually use DR Lo-rider or Sunbeams, but they haven't got a 6 string set in stock in my preferred gauge. I've used D'Addario EXL strings in past, they're pretty good. My new Overwater bass is 35" scale though, anyone know how long their long scale strings are ? http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/16...l_wound_singles
my Sr506 is 34" and there is plenty left over when i use the long scale. extra long scale is just ridiculous. heres where i get mine from http://www.soundunlimited.co.uk/product_58...0-6_30-130.html edit- think you may need super long actualy, but they do them on that site too, its cheaper than strings direct for most things -
my favorite is delays in feedback loops and having a momentary switch to switch it from a normal loop to a feedback one.
ah, i got a napalm pedals snowball which just has a feedback nob on it but for an extra 20 quid i could have got a mom one. so whats the normal loop like? say if im running delay it will just repeat the delay with no feedback?
I use mine a lot. I really like it with my whammy set to octave up and some delay. You can get some pretty mental sounds, depending on what you have to put in the loop. Just try everything and have fun
cheers, its been dispatched today ill let you know. ive been hearing alot of good things about multi band eq pedals and synth pedals. got a friend who has these might borrow them for a weekend and have a play.
-
just bought myself my first looper pedal ill be hooking up to an odb-3 and dd-3 and an ehx stereo memory man. hopefully will sound horribly noisey why should guitarists have all the obscene fx fun? anyone have an experience with feedback loopers? what works well? Not so well?
I've owned the Bass XT Pro and X3 live and would have to say there are many differences between the two. I'd have to say that either unit can sound awful if it isn't set up properly! Being able to run and mix two completely separate signal paths together is actually genius and is a massive improvement over the XT. - For those who like doing Chris Wolstenholme / Justin Chancellor impressions - I think this is one of the most effective ways of doing it without buying tons of gear - therefore, cheaper! - It sounds very good too, in stereo. Don't forget that the X3 isn't *just* about Bass. It has inputs on the back for Vocals. Keyboards, Variax guitar, electric Guitar and of course Bass - So the X3 can be used as an interface to record all of those instruments too as it features simulations of well known studio desks and a whole host of outboard effects. Something the XT can not do. Infact, to take it a step further, you can set up one signal path for vocals and one for acoustic guitar, each with their own effects on AND run them both at the same time in to two different channels on the PA!! Ultimately it's horses for courses and would be a waste to buy it if you are the kinda person who uses just one sound - but for those who like to have a hardware palllete that they can use for recording, live and writing on multiple instruments then it's great.
the tone mixer thing takes practice getting right though, LOTS, especialy mixing distorted tones with cleaner tones. but yeah the other extras are cool. can you not record vocals on the xt then? im certan ive done that before. or maybe it depends on the model. awesome gear, so easy to get started. the tuner isnt great on it though ^^
I do agree that live you tend to take a sound you like and stick to it, but the reason I like the idea of the line 6 is the fact that when it comes to recording you can have a great deal of tweakability. I don't really use pedals, I just play the same sound throughout my set, but recording, different sounds would lend themselves to different tracks. Last time I was in a studio I used a line 6 pod against my will... there was an Ampeg svt-3 sitting there but he swore by the POD (wish I knew which model it was)... turns out he was right, it was excellent. Looking to start doing some serious recording work at home and I love the idea of having a rig which I can run into a DAW (especially one that's protools compatible..) and go with. Especially if the same rig can be used for guitar.. Enjoying the different viewpoints on it all though! Current train of thought is to pick up an XT on the cheap with the bass plugins and use that for a while, if I hate it I'll sell it on and get a sansamp or something next to try. All in the X3 appears to be more or less the same as the XT but with a few bell and whistles, the main one being that it can run two channels simultaneously, but I'm hearing that it sounds awful... xx
The XT doesnt come with Bass presets you have to buy them from line 6, think if i remember there may have been a few but not that good. was a few years back so maybe im wrong but £50 extra was what i was considering paying to get something good outta the XT bass wise. In the end i opted to borrowing my mates X3 because the patches for the X3 seem to be alot better also the "Big 360" Bass preset on the X3 is lush.

just boiled for the first time. works fine for the first few hours, gets a bright crisp tone out of the strings but makes them a bit rough after a few hours sliding can be a bit nasty ive found. doesnt feel quite right, has the sort of fingernails on blackboard effect for me. but saves buying a new set for a few days/weeks maybe cooked up a nice d'addrio pro steel broth
I've actually just bought this head and it's amazing! I play in a progressive metal band and the low end on it is nothing like I've ever heard, no joke! I know the 3600W tag is ridiculous and you need like 4 cabs to get the full power out of it but when I was buying it, I just thought that I'm never going to need another head so it was a good investment. I run it through a Hartke VX410 atm but I'm getting an Orange OCB115 so I can run the lows into the 1x15 and highs into the 4x10 and that'll do. Even ruinning it with the cab I have at the moment, it is an absolute monster! The comp on it aswell is pretty damn good aswell. The only thing I can knock it on (and this might just be the one I got) is that some German that's still sour about the World Wars did the rack holes wrong so I can only fit 3/4 screws in on my rack but it's secure so meh, damn Germans
and it blew up nuked itself hahah

hes my fav reason for picking up a 6'er in the first place. i love his bass fills and his tone. Karnivool are a very texturised band and i can enjoy both themata and sound awake by just focusing on an individual instrument (ie.bass haha) or the song as a whole. it doesnt matter, still quality, quality vocals, quality use of fx from guitarists, quality drummer, and quality bassist. Grade A band

awesome piece of gear, reluctant to sell but with my built in tube pre amp on my svt i dont need it as much as i used to and i feel the money could be better spent else where. im looking for £170 good condition one or two cosmetic scratches but nothing that would stand out. PM for pictures. might upload some anyway .
