1.
Totally agree. Some very good songs on those albums and I shouldn't think anyone in the audience will be listening out for a note-for-note bass line at a Christmas party.
Exactly, but It makes a bit more enjoyable for the bassist to play something a bit more challenging dontcha-think?
2. Oh, bit far out, otherwise I would have popped in for a bit! - Have a goodun though!!
3. Been asked to do some Oasis stuff for an upcoming Christmas party, and had a listen to that album just now, and the bass totally sucks. Theres some nice chord work going on here in some numbers giving the opportunity for some nice crafted lines. Instead all we get are rooted chords, which leads me to believe that a guitarist played bass on the album, as this is typical of guitarists who pick up a bass. I cant believe a bass player couldnt string together a few passing notes. Sorry for the rant, but I,m not a big Oasis fan
4. Theres a clip on you tube showing Slade playing 'Mamma Weer All Crazee Now' live and being booed! I wonder why?
5. Its a pain. The last rehearsal we were tight and everyone was on form. Then in a few weeks it,ll be 'Sorry I forgot thats my cue' It seems to me that theres less practicing recently due to unplanned incidences!
6. Tomorrows practice is now off as the drummer has the Novo virus. Just once I would like to have a regular rehearsal without someone coming down with something or having a domestic issue! Sigh! Rant over. As you were.
7. Lead is not that difficult to master. Once you learn your pentatonic and blues scales its plain sailing
8. Rather apt thread, being as we lost John Lennon today 32 years ago
9. I started off on bass, but learned guitar a few years later. It made it easier to understand the relationship between major and minor. And made me appreciate the bass a bit more as I understood how basslines worked.
10. Theres a pub across the road, thats where I,ll be warming up!!
11.
They've had 8 bass players and counting! The Beatles are probably top of the list, they literally would have been screwed without Macca in many senses.
Actually, Macca was not always on bass, a lot of bass was played by Harrison and a lesser extent by Lennon
12.
Come on Premium Bonds
Chortle!
13. I use a pick on all the Lizzy stuff, and most other stuff that needs a driving bassline. I,m not bothered about some soppy kids (who probably were in liquid form when I started to play) telling me I,m not a proper bassist!!
14. I wouldnt bother. They look nice, but get in the way if you play with your thumb on or near the pup.
15. Vocals - Paul Rodgers Bass - Sting Drums - Don Henley Guitar - Dave Gilmour Keys - Booker T Jones
16. Being as your drummer has no drums, how about a bassist with no bass??
17. We do several 70,s glam rockers Bowie - Ziggy Stardust/Suffragette City T Rex - 20th Century Boy/Children Of The Revolution Osmonds - Crazy Horses Mamma Were All Crazy Now - Slade Faces - Stay With Me
18. I have been having trouble with the little grub screw on the P Bass G string saddle, it seems that the vibrations etc, are causing the screw to come loose and drop the saddle. I have sorted it by a little silicon to keep it tight. This however, had me checking the action every couple of weeks, and I was wondering how often do you all tweak your action?
19. Some might say maple is harder and gives a brighter sound, but I prefer the look of a R/W board. http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/4778-maple-vs-rosewood.html
20. I started off on bass, but learned guitar after a few years. I,m a fairly good rhythm player but sh*te at lead. Still, I prefer to be on the bass anyhoo!
21.
making special wide neck guitars is very labour intensive and I am the only person in the world who makes them.
Copywrite MDP
