I am running through this at home ready for rehearsal with the band, when I came across the isolated bass part on you tube. There is no way this is John Deacon playing this! - Its not very well played if it is!!

OK, It seems that we will do it. it will be nice to see how we go down.I suppose I was aware of playing for free being a taboo subject oh here. I will post more details in the upcoming gigs section, in case any London B/Cers want to come along.

Our guitarist has been trying to find our new rock covers band some work and got this email from a promoter in Sutton. I think it sounds dodgy, what do you think? We are are new band who have yet to play live and have yet to attract a following.
Hi Rob

What's the name of the band?]What do you normally charge for appearing?

From what area are you from?(We generally rely on bands bringing support with them) Would you do a gig even though there may be a chance of not being paid due to poor attendance? If the answer to the last question is yes,do you fancy a gig on Thursday 18/10 at The Paddock(I'm thinking of doing a rock covers night, for a change) It may be a busy night or it may not,if it's a success I will hold more.Regards Phil
Apologies for crap iphone pics, makes it look more yellow than white in artificial light. Not very well set up out of the box though, I have had to take the action down a bit, but that wasnt a problem as its a very nice well made bass. The strings will need replacing though, I dont know what strings Fender use on their basses, but these stock ones are terrible.

Just found this interview from Megan Davies who was the first successful female British bassist in the 60,s. http://www.brumbeat.net/sixmegan.htm
Please don't take this the wrong way Hobbayne, but surely, if the ad says "I want to put together a rock band to do stuff from 1968 to 1975", then really that's what you should expect.
Oh yes, I agree with you, but its a very narrow window of selected bands, and difficult to find an audience for. People usually like a bit more variety and choice that you can get from being more versatile. and I hoped the guy would see that.
-
You can be too selective though. I answered an ad from a guitarist who was looking to put together a rock band to do stuff from 1968 to 1975. It turned out that he was strictly adhering to that too, as he was only intested in these years and nowt else.

I think it has something to do with the ISP in the country you are in. I was in Kefalonia last year and noticed the same thing.

That bloke from CS! New York Gary Sinese? plays bass on the show. Apparently, he's got his own band.

It Was 50 Years Ago Today! (Well, In A Couple Of Weeks)
7 years, 12 albums, 22 singles, a concentrated out-pouring of panache, progression and creativity which will never be matched in popular music. Rightly adored and respected by the masses, and 43 years after ceasing to be, continuing to elicit derision and ignorant cynicism from the terminally cloth-eared.
Bit of a fan then? -
WHY Can't I download pics onto this site????

Are you up to your limit? -
As has been said before - unless you sh1t yourself and then burst into flames on stage, no-one notices the bass player (or what they play)
Agreed, unless the bass stops playing, then it sounds empty. As I found out when I stepped on the jack lead and pulled it out!
White. Every time.
Yes indeed. I did plump for the Olympic White 2011 American Standard P Bass in the end. I suppose I could post pictures, but you all know what they look like, right?

What is the avenue for the majority of your musical output...

I play in two bands, one is a cheesy cabaret band playing Sinatra through to The Mavericks, whereas the other band is a hard rocking covers band from AC/DC to Lenny Kravitz. A complete opposite situation! -
I agree with the AC/DC bass parts though. We do a cover of 'Overdose' from the 'Let There Be Rock' album, and I must admit that 6 minutes of dum a dum a dum a dum can get a bit boring. Although a driving root note chug is all thats required, I like to put a few little tricks of my own to keep me amused.
-
I try to get it as close as I can, but I dont bother with note for note copy as this depends on the drummer playing exactly the same part too. This can result in some nasty clashes

Oh Dear! I cant make up my mind now between the Red/maple and the oly white r/w. I didnt expect this to be such a hard decision to make. Still, it will be NBD this afternoon, so keep yer eyes peeled on here later!

Thanks for the input chaps. I was toying with the idea of buying another US P Bass after I sold my Stingray. I got a nice MIM in LPB, but its kept more as a backup bass in all honesty.
-
I might be able to go on Saturday, I,m flying out to Oz Sunday Evening.
-
I have been toying with the idea of purchasing an American Standard P bass, but I have not bought a brand new Fender for 16 years. I have spotted a reasonably priced Olympic white/Tort plate unused 2011 model. Are they as good as they used to be? I have read some reviews on newer Fenders, and some are not too clever. I have had a tinker with it in the shop and it feels well made, no crackles or hums and the neck is nice. Just thought I would get an opinion before the dusty old wallet comes out.
-
Hmm! Maybe their roadie has been promoted to drummer?
-
Yes, Its the same with David Bowie, I wanted the tab for Ziggy Stardust and got the same message, and then realised that ALL Bowie tabs are blocked.
