1. I have been playing a Precision since about 1984. I dont like Jazzes with their skinny necks. Bought one recently off the cuff, and promptly sold it. Always fancied a Stingray. Bought one and didnt think the sound was for me, so sold it. Cant stand those awful pointy basses, especially those Bongo things. So a fender precision all the time for me.
2.
...........................
Sorry Big Stu, I was referring to a Precision.
3. June 1980, I was still at school then!
4. I dont like sunburst with maple fingerboards, it just looks odd to me Ah, but rosewood boards...
5. This beauty is a steal at only £99.999 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-60th-Anniversary-Standard-Precision-Bass-SOLD-/170904759189?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27cab7ab95#ht_914wt_932
6. Loads of times with a dep. Try to make eye contact with him when you need to stop/slow down/speed up, or want to end the song. As mentioned above, you,ll be fine. Plus it makes a nice change to play with other musicians.
7. The granddaddy of them all - Status Quo - Rocking All Over The World, is in fact, a John Forgerty/Creedence Clearwater Revival song.
8. Rodneys got a Sheargal Farkey album.
9. Possibly a bit overpriced for a MIM Fender. There is some much better lower priced ones on here.
10. As above. Looking at the headstock shape and neck, I would roughly guess M I K circa 1997.
11. I had a setup at the Gallery and I wasnt impressed. I had to do it myself when I got it back home. I also found the staff a bit disinterested when I told them it wasnt how I wanted it. I always use Stuart at Peter Cook in Hanwell, west london these days.
12. Just got in from playing at a club in Sunbury to a handful of disinterested punters. Took the opportunity to practice my lead vocal skills on a few numbers including the much maligned M*****g S***y and Shake Rattle & Roll. Never had absolutely sod all of an audience though, so congratulations!
13. ! I forgot all about this! - Should have bumped it to remind myself. Doh!!
14. I would look at getting a heavier string gauge. I think Steve Harris uses a heavy .50 gauge. That should stop the rattle.
15. You,ll be OK. People will never do any gigs if they worry about their stuff getting damaged. I use an old Squier P for gigs that may involve rowdy beer throwing.
16. I thought I had seen that laminated P bass before on here!
17. It would be cheaper to get one of these, and covert it yourself and still save a grand. Incedently, this fwas the first 'proper' bass I had. I got it from my mates mums Littlewoods catalogue. 18. I auditioned for a band once. The outgoing bassist was in attendance for some reason. They wanted me to learn 'Are you gonna go my way' by Lenny Kravitz. I worked it out in a few minutes, including the little chromatic runs during the solo, when I overheard the bassist telling the drummer 'He,s showing off!' Turns out he didnt/couldnt play that bit
19. What bass does he currently play? My idea would be to get a similar, albeit newer model of that bass, as he is used to playing one, and knows what he can and cant do with it.
20. Which of these is still available?
21. 'Kid' by The Pretenders. A nice exercise in walking basslines which I very rarely play these days.
22. Is that the pub by Northfields station? I didn't know they did music in there? I will pop by if thats the case.
23. I hope that was a cheap copy!
24. I cant see the video, I can only hear the music. It tells me I need adobe flash player, but I already have that. It sounds good to me after only 4 months?? Wow!
25. We tried to a cover of the Stones' Gimme Shelter, but we couldnt get it to flow. It just went on and on and became a bit of a dirge, so we dropped it in the end. Some songs sound good on the record but sh1t in a rehearsal room.
