1.
It's candy cola with a maple neck..... I was interested in the Olympic white with the tort pick guard but then I took a look at a few utube videos of the CCOLA :-)
I,m seriously interested in the oly white R/W board torty plate. Will have to sell the Ray to finance it though.
2. We played the other night to a good crowd and were the first band on. As we were packing up to let the second band on, their bass player came up to me and said "Some nice bass playing mate!" Instead of saying "Thanks" or "Cheers mate!" I waffled something about 'The sound being terrible and couldnt hear a thing!" He must have thought I was a right arsehole!
3. Circa 1980, I was into the 2 tone stuff, Specials and Madness. Sir Horace and Bedders got me listing to the bass for the fist time. Bruce Foxton was my insperation with his plectrum powered lines.
4.
Yeah shame Nicky isn't up to it. Ratty on drums more than makes up for it though. Monster drummer.
Just make sure he doesnt kick the drums over at the end of the gig!! - I,ve seen Whistle Test!! 5. What I do if I,m stuck for ideas, is find a song with similar chord changes, not have to be same tempo or feel, and take some bits from each and create my own bassline. You,ll be surprised that you dont need to keep to the root per chord plodding lines.
6.
Quarter Pounders are SPB-3 not 1! If it's a 1 you have I'm interested but I'm guessing not.
Agreed. the SPB1 is the vintage pup, the Q P has a bigger magnet for each string. Have you a pic?
7. Kirsty Mc Call - In These Shoes. some nice EUB here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E7wHBG3WWo
8. Didnt Noel Gallegher have a union Jack Gibson E335? I quite liked that, but I,m not sure about this one.
9.
It was a weird one, we couldn't get a decent balance at all, and my sound was all over the place. To cap it all, the singer has decided to call it a day. Why does someone always leave, just as you've got a really good set together?? Ah well, we have a girl singer lined up for an audition, so we'll see.
Is that what they call 'Rock till you drop?'
10. Where abouts in Ealing Jack? I have an open air gig with 3 bands at Epsom racecourse tonight. We are first on so that,ll give me time to investigate the free bar! Where I am in Greenford its a bit chilly but still dry so far!!
11. Ryan Adams bass player uses one of these. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWviq72S8fI
12. I liked some of their early stuff like 'One Small Day, and Hymn. They should have stopped after the awful 'Dancing with tears in my eyes' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv5ZYXZ_ZUE
13. I have never actually recorded in Abbey Road, although I have been there a couple of times to watch some friends recording in there. We didnt actually go in through those famous doors though, we had to enter by the tradesmans entrance on the left hand side of the building down an alleyway. They did record in the famous studio 2, which was a bit smaller than i expected.
14.
Thank you guys for coming along! So when would London-based Basschatters like me to organise another one?
Ooh! can you make it another day apart from Saturday? I,m usually gigging in the evening.
15. I dont bring a spare although I have a bag full of strings etc. I,m more worried about my amp conking out than the bass guitar, thats why I get it serviced twice yearly.
16. My Strat, I cant get on with those hollow bodied things.
17. Looks like its gonna be a scorcher tomorrow! Make sure theres lots of piccies posted on here, and keep out the pub! Love to be there, but got a 50 mile drive down to Alton Hants, to play Elvis and Achy Breaky Heart, etc, for the old folks.
18. I remember reading somewhere about Lancaster refusing to go on tour if he had to play Margarita Time. Also he allegedly had a gammy left hand so Rossi redone all the bass parts after Lancaster left the studio on the final album.
19. Yes, I bought a Behringer 1800 combo Digital Village in Acton last year. The amp was crap, but the service was good, they even knocked a few quid off for cash.
20. Pretty sure its a Yamaha of some sort.
21. Playing my trusty 1977 Precision, alas now longer with me
22. We auditioned a drummer many years ago. We told him to learn Ticket To Ride, the Beatles song. When we got to the room we started it off and the drummer lost his way. He apologised and restarted but he still couldnt do it. I went to show him the basic beat as the bass player, and was shouted down by the guitarist who said 'Thats not right!' and promptly banged out some strange beat as the drummer stood there looking bemused. The final straw was the singer 'No, No! - youre doing it all wrong!' 'This is how it goes!' and sat down at his kit. At which point the poor chap said -'Sorry but I dont think I,m good enough for this band!' and packed up his gear and promptly walked out!!
