1.
Mines still at home and had a new pick guard fitted (the original is being buffed back to perfection), not sure whether to put it back up for sale or fit flats to it!
Flats on a Ray? I was told off for even thinking about it!!
2. Went to see an old friend who sings and plays a bit of Jazz and Swing in a small club the other weekend, although its not my sort of thing. When the other musicians found out I played a bit of bass they insisted on calling me up to play a few numbers. After a few pints of Stella I agreed, and attempted the old standard L O V E. I didnt know it was being recorded!! http://soundcloud.com/hobbayne/l-o-v-e
3. I dont see why not, some folk on here have been souping up their Sue Ryders with better pickups
4. Hello all you lovely Mods, can we pin this? Very useful info here for new and old members
5. I didnt know Glen Frey played the bass, let alone had is own sig model!!
6. Strangely enough, Brian Bethel is taking over from Gerry in December! I never saw that one coming. incidently, I met BB back in 1984 at the Red Lion in Brentford. I was there to see a blues band call 'The Cobra's' We got chatting and he offered us a lift to South Ealing tube station after the gig in his little Citroen. Unfortunatly, my mate threw up in the back.
7. Bring a spare bass if you have one. We auditioned a guitarist once, who promptly broke a string and disappeared for ten minutes to change it and retune.
8. I like Gerry McAvoy with Rory, but much prefered Brian Bethell on bass with Nine Below Zero. Just my 99p worth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2orkewNWuQ
9. I like the way that for an extra £16 you can have a rusty Fender neck plate screwed to it!
10. My Squier 1960,s faker! Its based on a 1968 P Bass, but I have since replaced the control knobs with more convincing rusty ones!!
11.
Offiically BOWFF!!
12. I bought a set of these on ebay, they were awful so I chucked 'em. Still, you get what you pay for!
13. There's a cracking little bass lick by Lord Macca in the middle of 'Everybodys Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey! '
14. My friends little sister always used to refer to the neck of the guitar as 'The Handle'
15.
My YOB bass - 1964 Precision
Oooh! thats my year of birth too Wish I was in as good nick as that bass
16. I have an audition tomorrow evening and I must say, I,m looking forward to it. Doing something very different from my regular work. Not that i,m arrogant, but I have learnt a lot in my years with my function band, and thank them for that, but, playing with such poor muscians (as I am) has made me want to seek something else. Having said that, I,m not quitting them yet, although the keyboardist is in the same boat as me.
17.
I've always liked the look of Warwicks. Apart from this one. Just... why? Is there even a reason?
Wheres the rest of it?
18. No I,m not telling them anything yet!! It'll probably take quiet a few rehearsals before we get to a good gigging standard (assuming I get the job) So what they dont know won't hurt 'em! Them only thing is, I feel like a flea trying to jump out of a pot with the lid on. All I need is for someone to take the lid off!!
19. I didnt want to play bass, I wanted to be... A Lumberjack!!
20.
Step 1, replace the drummer. Step 2, replace the singer. Job done.
Cant, its their band! They get all the work, so in fact i am a musical prositute!
21.
Crikey, how do you get regular gigs if the band is pants? Share your secret. And good luck.
God Knows! I guess it helps if your playing to the old folk at the British Legion who dont have their hearing aid on!! Seriously though, I look after the live sound through the PA and tune his guitar and then secretly turn it down while he,s not looking!!
22. I'm off! Been stuck in this band for 8 years now. Got the worlds worst drummer. In fact the first time I played with him, I thought he was mucking about during the end of 'Dance the night away' and the singer who doesnt know how to operate the PA, insists on playing rythm guitar, doesnt know how to tune it, and just plugs in and plays without adjusting anything! full on on reverb and played very loud out of tune with frequent wrong chords. Why do I stay? Because its regular work, playing nearly every week and over new year too. But enough is enough, I,ve got an audition with a blues/Rock band next week! Have to learn: All Right Now - Easy enough Freebird - Never listened to the bass on that one Black Betty - Interesting stuff going on there! Hey Joe - Easy! Let you know what happens next Friday!
23.
And yes I totally would!!
And how many of us have a daughter her age??
