2. The Doors never used a bass player, all the bass parts were done on the organ but still a marvellous band nonetheless!
3. Yes, another one for the tort pickguard. Really nice work mate! Its almost identical to my 1977 P Bass
4.
I think I'll sell my BMW - I'm only an amateur driver.
I drive a Ford Focus so what does that make me??
5. I fully agree with you! I play my VM Jazz down the local British Legion through a cheap Behringer 180 watt combo. Its true, the old folk who want Jim Reeves and Johnny Mathis dont care or even know what a good bass sound is! OTOH, I use my Stingray through a Trace Elliot 400 watt to play Louder clubs and pubs to youngsters who want it LOUD!!
6. My VM Squire Jazz Bass. It was originally a fretless, but has been added a fretted neck and a nice tort pickguard. You can see the three peice basswood body quite clearly, along with a nasty looking knot in the wood! Fitted with flats for a nice retro sound!!
7. My VM Squire Jazz Bass. It was originally a fretless, but has been added a fretted neck and a nice tort pickguard. You can see the three peice body quiet clearly, along with the knot! Fitted with flats for a nice retro sound!!
8. If its a 60th anniversary P bass then why have they used the updated 57 shape??
9. I use flats on the Jazz and rounds on the Stingray. Doing the circuit that I do, its nice to have a nice deep sound for reggae and jazz/swing and the clickity clackity slap sound for funk etc!!
10. I once played at a music pub in Watford. The front bar was rammed, but the music bar was empty apart from one pissed bloke who wanted "Proud Mary" and Brown Eyed Girl" After a while even he walked out and we where playing to an empty room! Eventualy the governer came in paid us and told us to f*** off! I,ve still no idea why??
11. The bass seems to stumble during the intro at about 30 secs into the song
12. I learned the Sound Affects album by The Jam when I first started playing - started off on simple songs like Pretty Green, Music For The Last Couple before going to But I,m Different Now etc. If you,re not familar with this album take a listen, theres some great bass work on there by the legendary Bruce Foxton.
13.
C&W? Chromatic runs? No. Turnarounds? Straight climbs and descents in the key. Keep it simple. Nodding off? Well, you may find it boring but it's the audience that matters, isn't it? And if they get a sense of disrespect for the music they like, you can probably expect a traditional Irish greeting afterwards.
God, no! I,ve no disrespect for anyones music! I,m just after some tips from folks who have done these gigs
14. I,ve been offered a gig on Friday, but unfortunately its an Irish/country pub. I,m familiar with the standard Patsy Cline/Jim Reeves sort of thing, but its gonna be a root-fifth- ocassional minor night, i,m afraid Anyone familiar with this gendre? I,m after tips on turnarounds, chromatic runs etc, to stop me from nodding off on stage in front of burley blokes who want "The Fields Of Athernrye" Still, I,ve no gig till the 14th of May, so might as well do it. please help me make it interesting for my sake!
15. Cant comment as to wether its genuine or not, but Dill Katz is a pro bass player who I remember used to play for the BBC along with Jonathan Cohen for the Kids programme "Play Away" Brian Cant used to make regular jokes about his name, saying that he had been practicing up alleyways!!
16. Bloody Hell! What a bargain! Where's me wallet!!
17. Hello mate! What type of music you play??
18. Another Fleetwood Mac number - Everywhere, probably one of the worst songs they ever did!!
19. In the famous Abbey Road Studio 2 When I was in there a few years ago, I was a bit disappointed, I always imagined a huge room when in fact its quiet small
20. Ooh! Weymouth! I used to go there and Bridport quiet a lot in my younger days!
21. Fontella Bass - Rescue Me. Not a difficult bassline by any stretch of the imigination, until our singer suddenly anounced she was going to change the key to Eb
22. John Lennon - Imagine All the songs on the plastic ono band album are stripped down to piano, bass and drums.
23. Was gonna pop along, but I'll have to see, as the sodding London Marathon will be clogging up the streets again!!
24. Almost too good a condition for a 55 year old bass
