1. I actually lied that I played the bass to get in to a band! I had no musical ability whatsoever! In fact, the only bassline that I knew was the intro to Pretty Green by The Jam, and even then had no clue as to what key it was in!! Still, it turned out the other guys were clueless 16 year olds too!!
2.
Looks cool, Where did you get a proper peg from in the end? It may be giving me Rosewood fingerboard Stingray gas.....
Cheers Pete! The Ernie Ball MusicMan importers Strings And Things managed to locate a tuning peg for me. Played it for the first time last night, absolutely amazing sound! Midrange punch really cuts through! I can see this old Precision player has been converted!!
3.
Nope-see my earlier post.
That'll teach me to skim through threads without reading the replies properly!!
4. If he takes a blowtorch to it, he could sell it as a 1975 relic
5. Hmm! I had a go trying to play DITS like you suggested and it sounded a bit stilted. I can play it with the index and second finger quite well, but not as cleanly as I can with a pick. Maybe you,ve discovered a new technique
6.
Ok, so... When you pluck a string, the pitch decreases as the note decays. Having just got a korg pitchblack+, I can actually see it happening... the note starts sharp, comes into tune and then goes flat.... So I should choose - should I have the start, middle, or end of the note in tune? I guess just after the start (because most notes last, say, 1/4 of a second). Whadd'ya reckon?
Er I,ve got a tuner app on my iphone
7. I like that Precision, what is it a 1977??
8. Have you tried here?? http://www.musicmanbass.org/default.htm
9. Just thought I'd report back on the good doctors MusicMan Stingray My guitar tech Had to adjust the truss rod as the neck was in serious need of attention, and gave the fretboard a good coating of lemon oil as it had dried out quiet a bit. The frets didnt need stoning as I thought they might do at first. With the neck now sorted he fitted a new set of Elites nickels 45-105 and lowered the action as low as it would go without buzzing, and finally replaced battery and the big G tuning peg with an original peg. I.ll gig it tomorrow night and see how it sounds
10. Gary Tibbs left Roxy Music to join Adam & The Ants. I cant think of two more different musical projects Its a bit like JJ burnel leaving the Stranglers to join Bucks Fizz!!
11. I,ve been using Rotosound Swing Bass 66 since god were a lad, but recently began to be unhappy due to brand new strings straight out the packet snapping when fitting them! As soon as they tighten, the string (usually the A string) just snaps at the ball end. I,ve now been using Elites Nickel for a while now and am quite happy with them.
12. Theres also Rock Goes To College featuring The Specials from 1979!
13. Betty Lou's site has umpteen songs and guitar chords, some of which are wrong, but its helped me out a few times!
14. Bad Case Of Lovin' You - Robert Palmer Need Your Love So Bad - Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac Yer Blues - The Beatles (Prbly a better choice than Help) Still Got The Blues For You - The late great Gary Moore.
15. I believe they had the contract in Japan for Fender. The headstock logo is very similar to fenders own.
16. Ooh! 45 year old strings! Well theres no way i can beat that record without changing mine until 2056
17.
Hi Bex I am just south of Hammersmith in SW London
The only thing just south of Hammersmith is the river!
18.
12hrs to go and it's sitting at £440... someone is going to be disappointed to receive an OLP copy!
I,ve got nearly the exact same one and it only cost me £150
19. Yea, left hand too. Although myself personaly wouldnt play an open D and then an A and then fret a note on the E (for arguments sake a G) I,d fret them at the fifth fret A & E.
20.
Sigh ..... didn't sell on eBay Anyone interested? £700 or £350 x2
Mine didnt sell on ebay either, but I did have a few messages after the auction closed asking wether I would like to do a deal, so I came to an arrangement outside of ebay with someone. Maybe you will get someone?

22.
He uses flats with a pick and does get a great tone.
That I didnt know
23.
Yet another unsung bassist who is an integral part of a band known for its guitar work. Probably as he doesn`t get in the way of the guitars, and lets them carry the tunes, people think he doesn`t do much, which at times is much harder than being all widdly.
Also a damn fine keyboard player too!
