Hey Bulldog - The Beatles for some reason I can't think beyond that tune.... must be good!
Agreed, Bulldog is Macca at his best! 6.
To me, Bakithi Kumalo is easily the best fretless bass player around. His stuff on Paul Simon's Graceland and The Rhythm of The Saints albums is as good as it gets. The best stuff is probably on Graceland, where there was more of a focus on those South African sounds and the bass was a real driving element like it is in Mbaqanga and Zulu pop music. This is the one for me:
I didnt know much about this fella, but yes, I love his stuff on Graceland!!
 7. I was gigging last night and recorded it on the Sky plus, don,t think I,ll bother now!
 8. Don Henley - New York Minute Featuring Pino Palladino on fretless. The Eagles did a great version with Timothy B Scmit too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L3oonOm0Ug&feature=fvsr
 9.
The Stranglers' 'Down in the Sewer'. And perfecting the bassline for one of the band's originals, ended up being slightly out of time on the recordings and I want to get it right for the live shows.
I play the main riff off of that to warm up before a gig. Also the intro to "Princess Of The Streets"
 10.
That thing looks lovely.
Er, to a 15 year old it might!
 11.
It's an arcane term which originates from the era when ivory was widely used in musical instrument construction & finishing - for example piano keys, nuts & bridge saddles on stringed instruments - and of course frets. At the time animal gut was used to manufacture strings so wear was not an issue, hence frets made from ivory - Jumbo Frets.* *
This may be a lie.
Jon.
I thought today was January 1st not April 1st!
 12. Four of us squeezed onto a tiny stage in a pub in North London, a bit of a throw together of musicians from different bands doing old standards to pissed up people who only wanted Johnny B Good and Sweet Home Alabama Still, had the chance to play with a great drummer who actually played on a record I bought as a kid!! 14. I have to practice "Do You Really Want To hurt Me" by Culture Club to get it it right for tomorrow night, as reggaes not my strong point. Almost done its easier to play than it sounds
 15.
can you explain the Root-P4 etc part please ? (tho i feel i'm going to feel silly when you do)
I think he means the root note and a perfect 4th, although I may be wrong.
 16. Sometimes the most boring bass lines are most suited to the song. Status Quo are a case in point. how many Quo songs have the standard dum-de-dum-dum-de-dum line where nothing elese will do??
 17.
I see you're from Greenford... my birthplace!
And the Birthplace of The Who 1964 In February, The Detours change their name to The Who at the suggestion of Pete’s art school friend Richard Barnes. The Who acquire the managerial services of Helmut Gorden, a doorknob manufacturer from Shepherd’s Bush. In April, after an impromptu audition at the Oldfield Hotel in Greenford, west London, Keith Moon, who had been drumming for the past year in local Wembley group, Clyde Burns and The Beachcombers, joins The Who. The group had been using a session drummer Dave Golding following the departure of Doug Sandom.
 18.
The area of West London I grew up in had three great music shops. Tempo (Flying Pig) and Peter Cook's in Hanwell, and the Ealing Music Centre (Dave Simms) in Ealing Broadway. I was definitely spoilt. Buying or browsing, haven't got a bad word to say about any of them. Unfortunately only Peter Cook's remains in business. High rates and rents did for the other two.
I bought my first proper bass after my Westone Thunder one from Dave Simms in December 1984, a fiesta red 1957 Squire Precision. Wish I still had it. A few months later, they closed down. I bought a Trace Elliot combo from Flying Pig and a week later, they closed down!! I bought a 1996 anniversry P Bass from Peter Cook a few years back, and luckily, they are still there!!
 19. Very good timing considering there is no bass drum, in fact its spot on!
 20. I use these multicoloured sharkfins, they,re actually ment for acoustic guitars but are nice and big n chunky to grip.
