  1. Definitely. I was in a band for years with a poor drummer. Once the band dissolved I began to play with other musicians. It was like a breath of fresh air as a began to play with a tight drummer and made me a better bassist.
  2. The Gallery in Camden have a security system where you have to buzz to get inside. Wunjo is just a normal shop.
  3. I,m not really that bothered. I cant be arsed to go through all that rigmarole just for the sake of the strings losing their brightness. If they go dull I will just change them.
  4. John Taylor from Duran Duran gets my respect. I was never a fan when they were big in the 80's, I always had them down as a kiddy pop band. But some of his lines are incredible.
  5. I bought the Nate Mendel because I tried it and liked it. The fact that it was relic'ed made no difference to me. Having said that, having a relic complete with dents and dings makes you not quite as careful with a brand new bass as we should be. My brand new LPB MIM P bass suffered a monumental gouge on its maiden gig when a speaker stand fell on it! 😢
  6. Good idea, I will give it a go.
  7. I would ask them to send pictures of the proof. Sounds like someones looking to bail on the sale to me.
  8. I sold a Nate Mendel earlier in the year. The new owner had no idea which dents were original or added my me. 😂
  9. I had a Fender straplock on one of my basses which I have taken off. I,m trying to refit the original pins back on the bass, but the hole is larger now and the pin dont fit. Apart from filling it with superglue, is there a work around??
  10. I do the occasional fill up there. Sometimes I slip a cheeky E minor lick in from time to time, but I dont linger up there too long as the bottom falls out.
  11. Bruce Foxton on Sound Affects when I was 15. I was hooked on the bass instantly. Paul Mc Cartney on Rain. After playing for a few years I heard this for the first time. It was a B side so I never came across it before. Hearing the bass played so high up the neck was so mindblowing, I nearly wet myself!! 😂
  12. Most of the bassists I listened to while growing up in the late 70's/early 80's played with a pick. Bruce Foxton, JJB etc. So I copied them.
  13. Watching The Selector on the BBC Iplayer at the Biggest Weekend in Coventry. The bassist is playing a Squier Classic Vibe Precision, how cool is that! No gear snobbery there. Good bassist too, although I think Pauline Black is the only original member.
  14. I have got myself an acoustic guitar to work out songs and chords etc. It wasnt a top of the range one, but it does the job. Apart from the strings! They are horrible cheese wire type things which rip my fingers to shreds. Anyone play acoustic and can recommend some strings? Its even more confusing than bass strings in the string shops! I know this a bass players forum but I couldnt find 'Acoustic Guitar Chat' .
  15. No cheap rubbish then. Thats good.
  16. I had my first session there back in 1982. It only had 2 rooms and a pool table. The last time I was there they had lots of rooms. It used to run by a bloke called Simon and his sister IIRC.
  17. With neck dive as well. Who could ask for more??
  18. Is that bloke on the left playing the bassline on a Strat?
  19. Yes. Apparently, In a dream one night he heard the Mexican trumpets, so he rushed to overdub them.
  20. Reminds me of The Concert For Bangladesh where Ravi Shankar and the Indian musicians sat down on the floor and began to tune. The crowd burst into applause thinking this was the actual Indian music section, and Ravi said "If you liked the tuning that much you should wait till we start playing properly!"
  21. I use an Xvive bass squeezer. Its a no frills effect pedal which adds a bit of punch and drive.
