  2. Well, I have ordered myself one of these. Loving the colour. https://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_std_precision_bass_mn_lpb_2011.htm I daresay it will be unplayable straight out of the box, still it will keep me busy setting it up while snowed in again!
  3. Wow! seems I might give Thomann a look. Anybody know what stock strings they come shipped with?
  4. I have a Nate Mendel which is fantastic. However, I am thinking of getting another Mexican P Bass as a back up. I seem to recall that Mexican made Fenders suffered a bit from poor build quality back in the day and were not all that great. What are the new ones like these days??
  5. I had the same trouble. The basic riff is repeated in three different keys although that is straightforward enough. Its the choruses that catch me out, they are just to fast for my fat fingers. Constantine Islamow has the tab which I downloaded. That helped a bit.
  6. Having to learn this for a party in a few weeks. Pretty simple song, but the chorus seems to be in C Minor. I can hear a flat third Eb in there. Both guitarists are playing major chords so I better play it safe by rooting the C and F
  7. A few reviews on gear 4 music. I would probably suggest a Harley Benton or Squier. All good tried and tested entry level basses. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Santa-Monica-Bass-Guitar-by-Gear4music-Black/1I00#full-des
  8. Is she still married to Robert Fripp of King Crimson?
  9. I'm glad I lived and spent my youth during the halycon years of pop music - 70's & 80's. But now? There's nothing left, we, the previous generations have done it all, and all the youth of today have is unintelligible rap, and grim ghastly grime all downloaded instantly to their smart phones. They plug in and listen to subliminal messages of gang culture and violence and their parents are totally oblivious to the nasty programing their kids are listening to.
  10. Anyone use them? I am gonna give 'em a go but just wondered how many of us actually use them? I tried them once many years back and and didnt rate them. Scott from his bass lessons site demoed a few and really liked the sound.
  11. Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac.I love playing along with that one.
  12. I asked sorta the same question yesterday. A Fender is long scale.
  13. Would A Fender P Bass be long or medium scale? I am looking at getting some black nylon strings to have a dabble on. Scott had a comparison of strings on his page and quite liked them so i may give 'em a go.
  14. The string height normally rises a bit the higher up the neck you go. If its a struggle to play, you may need to adjust the truss rod rather than the action.
  15. Thats true. Its done nothing but fosters down all day recently.
  16. I had my P Bass set up to my satisfaction, and instead of putting it back in its case, I left it on a guitar stand. After a few days, the action from the ninth fret upwards as got higher while the lower frets are fine. Can the neck move by itself if not properly cased? Looks like another truss rod tweak.
  17. Bass Heaven - Ska, Early 2 Tone Bass Hell - Root note plodders (often played by guitarists)
  18. Tom Robinson, Bruce Foxton and JJ Burnel
  19. Wheres Tina? Someone else on bass duties on this vid
  20. No mention yet for John McVie and his simple but effective two note bass line on this track.
  21. We have recently started doing Elvis Costello's Pump It Up in our set. Bruce Thomas holds the whole thing together with that bassline, and the octave jumps to the top E really makes the chorus jump at at you. Its a shame that EC sacked him. Easily the best musician in the band.
  22. Frank Farian. And Milli Vanilli was his brainchild. The biggest musical scam of the 90's. https://www.thevintagenews.com/2017/12/07/milli-vanilli-scandal/
